StatTiger 3,188
One of the key plays during the BCS Championship game was the attempted reverse play executed by the Oregon kick-return unit. Auburn had just scored a touchdown to take the lead, 7-3. On the subsequent kick-off, Oregon attempted to execute a reverse during the kick-return, which was blown up by Eric Smith. The play… Auburn kicks off to the right side of the field. The return man fields the ball to his left with Kenjon Barner coming back in motion from the left to the right. The initial return man pitches to Barner, who is cut off by Eric Smith. Barner loses his balance and is downed at the 7-yard line. Image #3 shows how Auburn’s kick coverage was zoned in on the initial return man. Image #4 shows how well Oregon had the backside walled off had Eric Smith not been in position to make the play on Barner, reversing field. Auburn’s kick and punt coverage was excellent that night, holding the Ducks to just 72-yards on a combined 7 punt and kick returns.
BigSammyK 171
It was a shame they went about 80 yards on the next play though.
tiger88 934
Stat, to me the opening kickoff set the tone for the game defensively. We flew down there on them and took em out. We showed we had some speed of our own.
