Anyone heard this Rumor?

After the Championship celebration and post game interviews Chizik thanked all the seniors then went to each under classman especially our freshman and sophomores and hugged them telling them to "remember this moment because they would be back". If this is true this sends chills through me. We have one heck of a coach who never stops trying to motivate even after a win in the BCS game. Look out Nick you may have found your match when it comes to intensity.

Oh yea. Dee Ford posted that on his facebook page after the game. Chizik is one heck of a coach, and an even better person. Last year, my mom went down to Gulf Shores, and picked up a Christian magazine with Chiz and his wife on the front and a story about their faith.

I'll admit it, I was really down when Auburn hired Gene. I didn't expect success at all. Boy am I glad to say I was wrong. Gene is now a hero of mine, and I wouldn't want anyone else. Class act.

It is amazing how little most think of his head coaching ability. Many believe he would be nothing w/o his assistants. Duh, didn't he have to know who to pick and how to get them here? Does anyone even consider him for their head coach opening?

He's kind of a rock, and I think he'll produce a strong, stable, topnotch program for as long as he stays.

I'm glad you will admit that. I was the only person in my family (12 AU grads other than me) willing to give him a chance from the start. I was open because he had been with Auburn before, knew what it was all about here, and knew what was expected of him. It shows in all his interviews, because he professes his love for Auburn every time he's on camera.

WDCGC!! :au:

Coach Chizik has several qualities that come across on TV that make him stand out among active coaches and great ones of the past.

He comes across as sincere, dedicated, humble, fair and decent. I genuinely believe his attitude as much as anything (coupled with the strong personalities on this year's stars) has pumped up the Auburn Family to a level I have not witnessed before. He is a leader.

And, aside from his warmth and sincerity, I see a wicked sense of humor and a seriousness that doesn't need provoking. He dodges useless controversy, and rarely says anything provocative just for the sake of it. But I would damn sure not want the man angry at me!

He already has a higher winning percentage than past AU coaches (Check it out: http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/sec/auburn/coaching_records.php ) and is the sort of recruiter who gets quality guys to come and, better still, want to stay. He's the kind of guy people would run through a brick wall for.

Even if that specific rumor is not 100% true, it ought to be. Long live Gene Chizik!

BeasFan, you just said he had a higher winning percentage based on two years. I love the guy, and there is no doubt that he's the right fit at Auburn. But let's not call him the greatest based on two years. Two years in, Terry Bowden was 20-1-1. Long-term success is the key to greatness. I'm glad he was ready to get back to work. I'm glad he was getting in the ear of the younger guys. That's the kind of thing that can guard against being complacent like Texas was this past season.

You're right, of course, mcgufcm, about the two years thing. However, that does point out how his Auburn work eclipses the Iowa State gig. The longer he's at Auburn and the more seasons he completes, the greater the odds that his numbers may drop. But he may just have what it takes to stay high in that category. That would suit me just fine. Keeping that fire burning hot and bright will be a challenge, but the way he's keeping the staff intact and encouraging the younger players is a good sign he has what it takes to make that happen.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. Watching the 30 minute AU EveryDay BCS special, it was cool to hear how Chizik's language had shifted. For most of the season it was do what we do, remember who you are playing for, not just about you, continue to work harder than last time, etc, etc. It was still about that, but also A LOT MORE of (paraphrase) NOW LET'S GO GET WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY OURS! A very confident (not cocky) head coach who believed in his team and believed nobody could beat them.

After a practice in Arizona, as the team was huddled and breaking it down, Chiz broke it down with "The Champ is here!"

I changed my facebook status after watching the after game stuff from the BCS game to "Gene Chizik just gets Auburn", and I think thats all there is to him really. Besides being a great coach, motivator, and judge of coaching talent, he just gets what makes us as fans tick...

From the way he conducts himself in Tiger Walks, which is way more animated that any other coach I have seen at Auburn, to the way he went to every fraternity before the WVU game last year and told them he needed them at the games, he just gets what makes Auburn great. From his pep rallys and letters to students he has embraced the fan base more than any other coach I have seen at any school. When I go to a game I yell and scream because I believe in Auburn and I believe in what CGC said when he said he needs me all in. Lee Ziemba said CGC inherited a broken team and he came in and reversed all that but to a small point he inherited a fan base that at times was less than energetic and disappointed in what was going on at the school. He came in and reversed all that and healed it. I love him for what he has done on the field, but I also love him for what he has done off the field.

I'll be the first to admit I wanted an offensive minded coach and to hire a great DC coordinator. When he was hired I thought well I'm not super excited about what he has done as a head coach but lets see who he hires. Then I realized he put together an all star staff. Trooper (i think it was him) even said while talking to people during the interview process CGC asked them who wouldn't they want to coach and recruit against and he went out and got those people save one. I would love to know who that one person was. He seems to be in touch with the staff, players, administration, and fans more than I have ever seen.

Alot of what he says can be chalked up to coach speak, but when he talks about Auburn being a job he wanted because of how great it is, it makes me think he understands why I became an Auburn fan. There is something different about Auburn football and the school as a whole. Its why even in a loss we still say "It's Great to be an Auburn Tiger!" because its the truth. Its why we love football players who "just get Auburn" like Kodi Burns, Neil Caudle, Bart Eddins, and Aairon Savage even though they haven't put up the numbers like other people have they exemplify Auburn and what it means to us.

Its why I did cry after the BCS championship, not because we got a monkey off our backs, but because all those people who lived through turmoil down on the plains got to experience something great. It made me so happy to see all the work Gene did in connection with the players and fans alike had paid off. He just gets Auburn football and I can't wait to see what he does in the future
