Recruiting Rules

I thought we established on another thread that you could only have 28 commits under the SEC rule later adopted by the NCAA.

How does S. Carolina have 31 commits then?

Is it that you can actually sign 28 letters of intent? - But only give the 25 schollies?

If so, how can you do business by allowing 31 commits?

Remember last year for us. We only signed 20 in February 2009. In January 2010, we could sign 5 and count them against the 2009 total, and still sign 25 last February 3rd. I think.

The thing is set up "by year". As explained above, if you didn't enroll 25 for 2010, you can make up the shortfall in January of 2011 with JUCO or early HS graduates. As long as they enroll in January, you can count them back.

Last year we signed 32, five early enrolees that counted back to '09, 25 that counted toward 2010 and two (Shon Coleman and Jeremy Richardson) that did not enroll in school.

Had Coleman and Richardson been able to enroll, two of the signees, probably Ladarious Phillips and T. Fairyake (sp??) would have been asked to "greyshirt" and go on scholarship in January of this year. If they didn't want to greyshirt, they would then be free to sign with anybody that had a slot available.

Also note, the term "Commit" is somewhat deceiving as it has no official standing. A school could have 65 players commit, as long as they didn't enroll over 25 new scholarship players there would be no problem.
