If the NCAA permits Auburn to do this, he will count against the 2012 class. If not, he counts against 2011. FWIW, Coleman is already enrolled in school and attending class so he is not eligible to greyshirt. He'll have to count against 2011 or 2012 when he signs, one or the other. I've never heard of the NCAA allowing a medical hardship redshirt year before the student starts competition, which is basically what Auburn is requesting for Coleman. Normally, a medical redshirt is granted to permit a player a sixth year due to injury, see Aaron Savage. However, we're dealing with the NCAA here, so who knows? I really do expect the NCAA to tell Auburn that Coleman will have to count against the 2011 28/25 limits, redshirt him for 2011 if necessary and come back and talk about a sixth year if needed in 2016.
