Crowell update

Crowell has given Auburn only lip service since this recruiting cycle started. He came on an unofficial visit and wore a UAT hat. It shouldn't be surprising that he's going to be a no-show.

This gives us time to invite someone else, or spend more time with those that do come and are seriously considering Auburn.

RB recruiting is such a mystery this year.

I think that when Blakeley, then Hart went over the hill, we were too far behind the chains with many others. It is puzzling why we are having trouble. With our reputation as RBU and the results for RB's in Malzhan's offense you'd think 5* RB's would be knocking the doors down to come here. Didn't they watch the BCS game? WTH?????

I'm thinking that some did, and saw what Dyer did in that game. Now they think with McCaleb and Dyer still here they won't see playing time, imo.

I'm no recruiting expert, but that's what I've been thinking too.

Still, Fannin's gone, Trotter, Moseley and/or Frazier aren't likely to have Cam's legs, and CGM can use lots of RB's in his offense. Playing time wouldn't seem like a deal breaker to me.

Like Dee Hart's going to see any time with Richardson and Lacy ahead of him. Wonder where that leaves Corey Grant?

In my opinion, Lacy is overrated. Hart's a much different 'back than he is, anyway.

And Richardson is a Junior, while Dyer will only be a Sophomore next year.

Lacy has two years of strength and conditioning as well as experience in the system over Dee Hart. And Corey Grant is about the same size & speed as Hart and has a year in the system as well.

Im sure Auburn would be more satisfied with taking Drew than Crowell. Auburn is going to get their runningbacks in time, they got lucky with having Carnell and Ronnie in the backfield at the same time, but I'm not saying that won't happen again. There could be an even better runningback next year coming out of high school, and besides McCaleb and Dyer are going to be handle it, no doubt.

For the guy talking about replacing Cam's carries the answer is no one running back will, the reason he was able to run wild at the beginning of the year is because of the reads granted some were designed but its not going to change the fact of how the offense works. The best way to describe our offense is the spread option I attack. No matter who comes will be behind Dyer and most likely wont get as many touches as he did this year.He just busted on the seen when we really needed him to. I see us slinging it around next year a lot.

RB is a position that's very susceptible to injury. It's hard to have enough quality backs. Remember the 2002 Iron Bowl? Ronnie and Caddy were both on crutches, and we still won with Tre Smith. You need several.

If we don't get another this year, lets don't forget Brent Calloway. He rushed for nearly 2,000 yards. If he hadn't been being pumped as a linebacker, he'd be a highly sought running back. Quan Bray is also a 4* back. While maybe he's not a 20 carry a game guy, he can probably do close to what O-Mac has been doing. Signing another high-quality back this year would be great, but we're not desperate.

Here's the article...

Carver-Columbus 5-star RB Isaiah Crowell cancels Auburn visit

by Chip Towers

It’s official. It’s down to Alabama and Georgia for Isaiah Crowell.

The state’s No. 1 college football prospect, a 6-foot, 210-pound tailback out of Carver-Columbus, canceled what was to be his final official visit to Auburn this weekend.

“He just said he was getting real tired,” Carver-Columbus coach Dell McGee said Wednesday. “He wanted to thank Auburn for recruiting him and felt like this would only be fair if they wanted to recruit another running back. He said he’s down to Alabama and Georgia now. He wants to take the weekend off and sit down with his family and talk about the situation.”

Not coincidentally, Auburn got a commitment Wednesday from running back Tre Mason of Lakeland, Fla.

Crowell is a 5-star-rated recruit who’s considered the No. 1 back in America by ESPN and Scout.com. He will make his announcement between the two schools on national signing day sometime around 1:30 p.m. at the Occasions Event Center in Columbus. Crowell will be accompanied by his fellow college football signees from Carver for that announcement.

Too bad that Cromwell won't be coming to Auburn, but I'm happy that we picked up Tre Mason. Class is looking good. Hopefully we hold onto the ones we already have and we get that last handful of guys who are high on our list and finish with another excellent class.
