Bottom line, we're going toe-to-toe with UAT for the top recruits in this state and winning more than our fair share of the battles. What a stark contrast to just a few years ago. Good to see.

Also note, AU currently has commitments from the top recruit in Arizona (Westerman), North Carolina (Frost) and the No. 2 in Arkansas (Frazier) and Delaware (Blackson). We are also targeting the top recruit in Maryland (Cyrus K.) and Louisiana (La'El Collins).

One thing for sure, is this staff is working their tails off to get the best they can get that fit in to what our coaches need them to be.

There have been years when we had in-state results like this before, but they have been seldom and far between. This staff started on this road last year and only got better.

Having this sort of in-state success is critical! WTG guys!

The only two Alabama commits in the top 7 are Shinn and Woodson. Woodson is, of course, an Alabama legacy, and Shinn's high school coach has sold his soul to Paul Bryant, Jr.

Sadly many in those past classes didn't qualify. One big difference this coaching staff has achieved is signing kids who qualify. It doesn't do any good to sign a top 10 class if all the big dogs don't qualify.

DISCLAIMER: In no way was that a knock on any previous coaching staff.

PM opines in his non-premium blog (some highlights below -- please follow the link and go show those guys over at AUC some love)...

Phillip's blog: Best of times for AU football

Less than three weeks earlier, Alabama had beaten Auburn 36-0 at Bryant-Denny Stadium to complete a 12-0 regular season. A year earlier, Alabama had all but picked the state clean in the aftermath of a 7-6 season in Nick Saban’s first year as coach.

Probably, not many paid much attention when Chizik vowed Auburn would stand and fight, not just on the field but on the recruiting trail.

...

He hired a staff filled with top-flight recruiters. From the start, they were relentless. Off days were for others.

...

From the start, Auburn coaches were creative, coming up with Big Cat Weekend and Tiger Prowl. They did what Chizik said they would do and didn’t back down from anybody.

...

Auburn had a top five recruiting class last February and is poised to have another one Wednesday. And it’s Auburn that is dominating in-state recruiting.

What makes what we've been able to accomplish on the recruiting front even more impressive is that Chizik and Co. have done this when UAT was at their peak (so much for 'they only beat us when we're down'). We have literally gone toe-to-toe with the media proclaimed unshakable 'king of the college football world' and not only won but literally turned the tide, beating them at their own game and putting a vice grip on more than our share of the state's top talent in the process. After all, it's all about the processTM. A'ight?

And how important is it to get the top talent in this state? Just ask Tuberville, who was largely seen to be uncompetitive once Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa.

Good times are back at AU, indeed. WDE!

Not to take away from your accomplishments (well, kinda...), but it can't be ignored that 9 out of 10 recruiting services have Alabama ahead of Auburn -- with some placing us in the #1 spot nationally.

Getting the top prospects from this state is great. I'm not denying that. It's just that the "we've beaten Saban on the recruiting trail!" talk is mistaken. Winning the Battle of Fredricksburg is not to be mistaken for winning the war.

How many targets do you guys still have left on the board? AU is thought to be in good shape with at least Florence and Wright and maybe a big time OT...

There are 10 recruiting services? Really? Care to share?

Not that it matters. At all. It's nothing more than an educated guess. If you're a top tier class, you're a top tier class. There's not going to be a dime's worth of difference in talent between the two schools. It's going to be about how the guys grow from here. The recruiting trail only gets you so far. Both teams have handled their business. Some like our class better. Some like their class better. They're even. I'm just excited that we're filling needs on the OL and Secondary with as much pop as we did last year in the Linebackers. We're filling needs with quality talent. Now we have to develop them because no matter how high they're rated, they are still 17-18 year old kids. No one has any idea what or who they will be four years from now.
