Looking back at the last decade of recruiting classes (2002-2011) here are some notable recruits signed under the current coaching staff.

Defense:

* There has been 25 defensive tackles signed in the last 10-years. Jeffrey Whitaker (2010) and Gabe Wright (2011) are the second highest recruits at this position signed by the Auburn Tigers. They are followed by Kenneth Carter, who is the 4th highest rated DT signed by Auburn in the past ten years. The highest rated player signed at this position was Bart Eddins, who was a Scout 5-star rated DT, No. 7 in the nation.

* There has been 36 defensive ends signed from 2002-2011 and Corey Lemonier (2010) was the highest rated DE, Auburn signed coming out of high school. Craig Sanders (2010) was No. 9, Dee Ford (2009) was No. 10 and Jabrian Niles (2011) was No. 11.

* Over the past ten years, Auburn has signed 30 linebackers, with Eltoro Freeman (2009) being the second highest rated LB signed during this time span. Justin Garrett (2011) is currently the 4th highest rated LB signed of the 30 and Kris Frost (2011) is the 7th highest rated LB.

* Over the past ten years, Auburn has signed 25 cornerbacks with Demond Washington (2009) being the highest rated corner signed during this time period. Jonathan Rose (2011) is No. 3, Jermaine Whitehead (2011) is No. 5 and Therezie Robensen (2011) is No. 6.

* Auburn has signed 17 safeties over the last ten years with Erique Florence (2011) being the highest rated safety signed by Auburn over the past ten recruiting classes.

Offense:

* Over the past ten years, Auburn has signed 39 offensive linemen. Christian Westerman (2011) is currently the highest rated OL signed. Reese Dismukes (2011) is currently No. 5, Shon Coleman (2010) is No. 6, Greg Robinson (2011) is No. 7 and Eric Mack (2010) is No. 8. Cyrus Kouandjio (2011) would be tied for No.1 should he actually sign with the Auburn Tigers. The future is clearly bright for the Auburn offensive line.

* Auburn has signed 17 quarterbacks over the past 10-years with Kiehl Frazier (2011) being rated the highest of the 17. Tyrik Rollison (2009) was No. 5 and Cameron Newton (2010) was No. 6 on the list.

* Auburn has signed 19 running backs over the past 10-years with Michael Dyer (2010) is the highest rated RB coming out of high school. Quan Bray (2011) is the 4th highest rated of the 19 signed by Auburn and Tre Mason (2011) is No. 7.

* Auburn has signed 17 tightends over the past 10-years with Philip Lutzenkirchen (2009) and C.J. Uzomah (2011) tied as the 2nd highest rated TE signed by Auburn. Brandon Fulse (2011) is No. 5 on the list.

* Auburn has signed 32 wide-receivers over the past 10 recruiting classes with Trovon Reed (2010) being the highest rated receiver. Antonio Goodwin (2010) is Auburn’s 10th highest rated receiver over the past decade.

It normally takes2-3 years before we see the true value of a recruiting class, which means the actual worth of the 2009 recruiting class is beginning to show. Gene Chizik’s first recruiting class (2009) was ranked No. 16 nationally. Thus far, 17 of the 28 players inked that year have seen action on the field to an average of 20.3 games per player. Of the 29 players inked in the 2010 recruiting class, 16 players have already seen action on game day.

Eight players from the 2009 class have become or were starters for the Auburn Tigers. Six players from the 2010 class have already become starters or will challenge for starting roles in 2011. Ten recruits from 2009 fell to attrition, never making an impact on the field but 15 players from that class return in 2011 and should make a major contribution to the team. Only time will tell what Gene Chizik’s recruiting classes will produce down the road but their rankings at the time of their signing, indicate Chizik’s staff are proven recruiters. The national championship won during the 2010 season solidifies they can coach them up too.

Very true. In fact in light of ESPN re-evaluating our 2007 recruiting class to a #3 ranking (including '07 defensive recruits) can we factor that "stat" into the "Roof-inherited-an- empty-cupboard" theory?

He did. Of the 21 DL's recruited from 06-08, 15 basically washed out, seeing less than 10 games during their entire career. Of the 8 LB's recruited from 06-08, 6 basically washed out. The front 7 was lacking in terms of talent and depth, when Roof arrived.
