SEC Coaching Rivalries

This Rivals.com article mentions the Saban-Miles rivalry and suggests it may rise to the level of other great coaching rivalries like Tom Osborne vs. Barry Switzer and

Yet, easily the most famous college football coaching rivalry was between Ohio State's Woody Hayes and Michigan's Bo Schembechler, whose teams dominated the Big Ten throughout the '70s.

The only SEC mentions in the article beyond Saban and Miles would be:

First of all, when the Hayes-Schembechler rivalry was earning its place in college football lore, Ohio State and Michigan dominated the Big Ten. No team other than Ohio State or Michigan represented the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl during that decade. They were far and away the best programs in the conference and were each other's primary rival.

Conversely, Alabama and LSU aren't dominating the SEC. Florida has been and will be a major force. The same goes for Auburn. Georgia, Tennessee and Arkansas can never be overlooked, either.

And though Alabama and LSU are rivals, especially since Saban took over in Tuscaloosa four years ago, Auburn remains the Crimson Tide's arch-enemy. Indeed, a rivalry between Saban and Auburn coach Gene Chizik may be developing that could be greater than any in college football today.

It struck me as odd that the Bear-Shug rivalry wasn't mentioned so I did a little research to see that in the years they were facing each other at the Iron Bowl, Bear dominated Shug.

Are there any other head-to-head coaching rivalries in the SEC worth noting as on par with the ones mentioned in this article?

I think Shug vs Dooley was a good one, it was friendly though. Tubby and Jackie Sherril never cared for each other then again not many liked ole Jackie.

In the two years Chizik V Saban has started off a good one.

That's what I'm seeing, too. Right now, Saban is 2-2 and Chizik is 1-1 in Iron Bowl action. That's 50% each.

Let the games begin!

WDE!

FWIW, I'm curious about other SEC coaching rivalries, not necessarily purely within the conference proper. Just as long as at least one of the coaches is at an SEC school, his rivalry could be with some other school not in the SEC.

I'm asking y'all about this trivia to avoid having to go find such data on the web. I have tried Googling with little luck. If you know a site (or sites) that has such data, please link to it/them. Thanks!

I was just taken with how non-SEC the tone of that article was, and feel there ought to be SEC people at least as strong in their rivalries as those Big 12 and Big 10 types.

Spurrior vs the Great Pumpkin is by far the best coaching rivalry of my lifetime. The beatdowns Florida gave UTK were hilarious as were Spurrior's comments about Hillbilly High. Woodie vs. Bo should be referred to as total d-bag that should have never set foot on a college campus vs the most overrated coach in college football history.
