Moving on

Although initially relunctant, once UAT inked CyKo, I became ready to turn focus to the 2012 class. Let's start at a high level with our areas of biggest need.

In 2011, it was Offensive Linemen and the Secondary. And I think most agree we filled those areas exceptionally well:

- OL Recruiting - Needs Met

- Secondary Recruiting - Needs Met

So here's a question for the board: What are our biggest needs in the upcoming class and who are the early targets? My take:

- Running Back: Beniquez Brown, Matt Jones, Russell Hansborough, Keith Marshall, Barry Sanders, Demetrius Williams, T.J. Yeldon, others?

- Defensive Line: Torey Agee, Jordan Jenkins, Justin Shanks, Alphonse Taylor, Quinteze Williams

Depending on who steps up as starters and how well they develop, wide receivers could be a huge area of need in the next recruiting class. I think it's safe to say Blake and probabally Reed will be great, but nobody else is for sure at this point.

RB and DT still seem like the biggest need areas to me. Might add LB to that list depending on what we see from young players (Freeman is a senior; Bates and Evans are Juniors). Just my thoughts.

We offered a rb today, anyone catch who it was? Bryan posted it, but it's VIP.

I do not have VIP access to 247, but a little research over lunch (yeah, it's better than working) resulted in the belief that it's Beniquez Brown of Florence. Looks like he has a nice frame to compliment the RB stable, he's 6'2" and listed as high as 215 lbm as a junior.

Not overly impressed with Beniquez Brown's RB highlight reel at all.

Ah? I haven't seen the highlight reel yet. That's mildly disappointing.

Does Brown project as a RB in college?

In order of need:

1)DT is always the hardest position to fill at the college level. Depending on how this year's signees turn out once they get on campus, we'll still need to sign at least two DT's.

2)RB. An injury prone position. If we get somebody hurt next season, we have a problem. Need two at a minimum.

Beyond those two positions, just normal replacement numbers. With the strength of these last two classes, we don't need to find sleepers. We can afford to go after the big fish and if we miss a player or two, it's all good.

As for names, I don't want to hear it until about September...I've had enough 'crootin for a while!

He looks like a LB who also plays RB. I dont know; none of his RB highlights look overly impressive at all. He's tall and runs way too upright, his top-end speed is clearly an issue. He looks more like an Eric Smith replacement than a headliner RB.

Any one know what other RBs we have offered?

Keith Marshall

Rushel Shell

Trey Williams

Barry Sanders Jr.

TJ Yeldon

Matt Jones

Brian Kimbrow

*Daniel Taylor

*Not sure how legit the offer is.

RBs at the top of the board? Yeldon, I'd assume?

I kind of did it by "status". Marshall and Shell will garner 5-star type status. I'm not sure of the big-board...Yeldon probably isn't at the top (because he's not the best) but he'll be a prime target because he's a top instate kid and is very likely Auburn-bound.

BM of AUC is reporting Marshall is expecting to visit campus this weekend.

One of the nation's top running backs is visiting Auburn this weekend ... http://bit.ly/h2DB29

After this past year's recruiting class - sure, we got some good people, but the 2 we lost really made me tired. I just can't get excited - yet. I'm sure I will, but it may take a few months. I'm still burned out somewhat.
