Auburn's indoor football facility going up

By Charles Goldberg

The $16 million practice facility, which is much bigger than the current indoor facility, should be ready for the start of fall practice in August. The indoor facility has forced designers to change the layout of the fields at the athletic complex. There will be two outdoor fields, instead of three. Instead of three fields running in the same direction, one is laid out north to south, and the other is pointing east to west.

Somewhere, Tuberville is smiling right now.

How can you say that? Didn't you read awhile back that JJ thought this was a great idea by Chizik? (sorry couldn't resist).

Seriously, a couple of notes:

--you can see in the sketch the creek that runs along side the peactice field. There actually was a plan a few years ago to build the indoor facility in that area so the practice fields wouldn't have to be moved around. But there was an environmental issue.

--the current plan pretty much shields one of the practice fields from public view which is what Chizik wanted so they didn't have to have guards outside the fence/on the street running people off.

I can say that because Tuberville fought for dang near 10 years to get one, and they're finally building it.

I know that and you missed my sarcasm. My point was JJ had promised Tubs the facility and there was an approved plan at least a year beofre Tubs was fired. It was held up by enviriomental issues. Later, as things progressed, JJ gave Chizik credit for suggesting it. I just didn't see any point for JJ saying that.
