Good ole' Thayer is at it again, story below

NCAA investigators on Monday interviewed several people in Thibodaux, La. about Auburn’s recruitment of offensive lineman Greg Robinson and wide receiver Trovon Reed and both players’ involvement with Sean Nelson, who took them on multiple unofficial visits to Auburn.

Dennis Lorio, Thibodaux High School's former football coach, said he was interviewed for 45 minutes by one of two NCAA investigators who visited him Monday. Robinson was also interviewed by an NCAA investigator for “a couple of hours” and Robinson’s mother was also interviewed, according to Lorio.

Efforts to reach Robinson and his mother Wednesday were unsuccessful. NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osborn declined comment, citing the NCAA’s policy of not commenting on current, pending or potential investigations.

A message left for Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs was not immediately returned Wednesday.

Lorio said the NCAA investigator who interviewed him asked if he believed Auburn had committed NCAA violations in its recruitment of Robinson, who signed with the national champion Tigers earlier this month. Robinson and Reed, who redshirted as a freshman this past season, were both primarily recruited by Trooper Taylor, Auburn’s assistant head coach.

“I can’t say what Auburn did because I don’t know and I wasn’t involved very much,” Lorio said Wednesday. “I really don’t know truthfully.”

“My answer is what went on with Greg’s recruitment, you’re going to have ask Trooper Taylor, Greg, his parents and, I believe, Sean Nelson. I don’t have any more answers because I don’t know.”

In December, Lorio told FOXSports.com that several coaches and students saw Robinson show off cash and a new iPhone at school after making an unofficial visit to Auburn earlier in the year.

Messages left with Auburn spokesman Kirk Sampson for a request to talk with Taylor were not immediately returned Wednesday.

Before last month’s BCS title game, Taylor told FOXSports.com he did not give money or items to Nelson or Robinson.

“It’s illegal to give money,” Taylor said with a laugh. “Greg Robinson got travel money for coming down with him and his family, which is for mileage and they got a check for that. That was it.”

Lorio said the NCAA investigator also asked about him about Nelson’s relationship with Robinson and Reed and the unofficial visits to Auburn on which he drove them. In an interview with FOXSports.com last month, Nelson denied he was paid by anyone associated with Auburn for taking Reed and Robinson to their unofficial visits.

Nelson and Robinson both told FOXSports.com they made two such visits together.

"All I know is what Greg did when he was around here,” Lorio said. “He did well. He didn’t do as great this year as his junior year. He was inconsistent. We weren’t quite as good. There were a lot of things going on. As far as what went on when he left here, I have very little knowledge. That’s just a fact.”

Lorio said the NCAA investigator also asked about Robinson’s grandmother, Lydia Robinson, whom Lorio said he has never met. Robinson did not return a telephone message Wednesday.

But she told FOXSports.com last month that she was unhappy with Auburn’s recruitment of her grandson and Nelson having taken him to Auburn on unofficial visits. Robinson also hoped her grandson would choose another school.

She said Auburn's coaches "weren't very intelligent" and was especially critical of Taylor, who she says "got a lot of lies in there when he was talking."

“I don’t know anymore beyond that,” Lorio said.

Lorio said one person told him Nelson was interviewed by NCAA investigators and that another person was unsure if it happened. Nelson, who claims to be Reed’s guardian and operates a non-profit mentoring program called Total Package, declined to tell FOXSports.com on Wednesday whether he had been interviewed by the NCAA.

“Why you calling me? Unless you’re calling to apologize, don’t call my phone no more,” Nelson said before hanging up.

why even post this and give this idiot any more help? It makes no sense to even put this here. We all know its falsified info with no credible sources to back up any of it. This is no different than the garbage written during the season.

My link is for al.com if you choose to click the link to FoxSports that is your problem. Still nice to know what is out there just something else for the team to deal with Thayer needs to get a life

More mindless drivel from the king of the mindless, Evans.

The al.com article wrote the following about Lorio, the primary "source" for this masterpiece:

LSU lost Reed and Robinson to Auburn. Lorio was once a graduate assistant at LSU and said Reed should have signed with the Bengal Tigers during the recruiting process.

So an ex-high school coach, who used to work for LSU and has stated that Reed "should have" signed there, is the genesis of this marvel. Outstanding. Somewhere in Baton Rouge there's a random drunk on the corner, smelling faintly of corn dogs and Evans' aftershave, who will likely provide additional details for next month's "shocker".

I'd say un-sourced yellow journalism is funny, but it's really just kind of sad. Wait, no, it's pathetic. Which means ESPN will make this the banner headline for the next 37 days.

Spring football is right around the corner my friends...

I won't click or read any of it. thank you. Its absolute pure unfounded garbage just like everything else that came up during the season. I just don't see the need to continue to help them spread the word by posting it here. whatever though. To each his own.

The link was to AL.com, I posted Thayer's article because people invariably ask for the info. If you don't want to click or read, right on--no need to snap at others for conveying info relating to Auburn football on an Auburn message board.

Ugh. I hate this stuff even being out there and I am really tired of seeing Auburn's name dragged through the mud. Hopefully there is nothing to it. Of course if nothing comes up then it all just slips under the radar and there are never retractions, apologies, etc.

Until another "scandal" comes along, we are going to be under the microscope. Best is just to ignore the hacks and place faith that our coaches are behaving the way they should.

I for one appreciate getting the info posted. If one of us can copy and paste here it prevents their website from getting extra hits. This is pretty similar to what Evans wrote a month or so ago about Auburn's recruitment of Marcus Lattimore, except in that article he made Luper out to be the bad guy. Soon after he posted that, both Marcus Lattimore and his mom said Thayer Evans lied in the article and he quickly took it down.

The HS coach, Lorio, was a graduate assistant at LSU and got fired from there for drinking problems. He was recently fired from his HS job for being a drunk. (I got this info from a niece, LSU fan that lives on the outskirts of Thibodaux.) That's the type of source Evans looks for, for obvious reasons.

I don't see where Auburn has a problem here. Evans ran something similar to this about Robinson and Reed's recruitment just a week or so ago, that's where Nelson's comment: "Why you calling me unless to apologize" came from. The only new thing is where he states that an NCAA investigator is on the scene. That may be true, the corndogs don't like Auburn coming in there and cherry-picking the football players. They were certain to drop a dime on the NCAA, and the NCAA has to look into it.

We have known that Evans, Pete Thamel and the "Sports by Brooks" guy are in cahoots with their vendetta against Auburn. We have known that rival fans, particularly LSU fans, hate us getting great players from under their noses. I bet our recruitment of those two is as squeaky clean as any recruitment of any player in the United States.

Y'all do know that Thayer Evans came to Auburn the weekend of January 28th. He hung out at The Chameleon club when the strip show was there, I suppose hoping to catch Auburn taking underage recruits in there for entertainment. No worries, our staff got word that he was coming and no Auburn athlete was anywhere near the place that weekend. Hope Evans enjoyed the crowd. He must have really stuck out there, what with the whole affair being sponsored by some organization out of Tuskegee University.

He got on a rampage like this against Texas a few years ago, kept telling bigger and bigger lies until the N.Y. Times fired him. Maybe a few more lies and FOX will show him the door.

Can we please drain water off of Toomer's right now and invite Evans for a nice Southern glass of tea :big:

Holy Mackerel! This is almost identical to the one-source, one-sided (quoting Mack Brown) okie grandma lying about Texas "story" that got Thayer Evans fired from the NYT!

Nothing short of successful defamation suits put investigative-reporter Woodward/Berstein wannabes where they belongs, sitting on a porch looking through the wanted ads

More rumors and innuendos from flame-throwing keyboard jockeys.... I've got a tale to tell, I tell ya'.

Coach Lorio has already said Auburn coaches haven't done anything wrong, and that some media members are just making stuff up.

History often shows us that what is happening today can be explained by what happened many years before. Some of that history is right here on this board provided by long-time members. You can educate yourself by reading:

Auburn's Early Problems NCAA Probation

Rumors and innuendo are still being used to prosecute the innocent.
