They're our trees

I've heard a lot of people wondering why we even care. They're just trees right? Well, yes, they are just trees. But they are our trees. They are Auburn's trees. I for one have never really cared about any such story, laughing at Al Gore and his guy(s). I think former basketball player, who actually transfered in, Tay Waller said it best on his Twitter. "IM NOT GONNA LIE...TOOMER CORNER IS THE ONLY TREE I EVER CARED ABOUT"

This is Al Gore's dream, recruiting most, if not all, of us as tree huggers. Stupid former Vice President.

I was talking to a Gump yesterday. I work with him, and he is an idiot. He was adamant about how AU was making a big production out of nothing, and he said it was quite stupid that people were upset over trees being poisoned. I asked him how he'd feel if I poisoned the giant oak tree in his front yard. I said apparently it would be okay since it's just a tree.

He quickly changed his mind and tried to argue from a different angle, and within minutes decided he didn't want to talk about it anymore.

Because it dawned on him that he wasn't ever going to win that debate.

If they were JUST trees, then why was lake house boy so hell bent on destroying them. It sure seemed important to HIM that they be killed... why ?

One of my bammer friends told me that if it was his trees in his yard or place of business he would be very angry. His punishment recommendation involved a 2 x 4 and a rusty nail. Then he said, " if the shoe were on the other foot and it were our trees on the quad around Denny chimes I would feel exactly the same as you do about toomers corner oaks" I thanked him because he clearly understands.

I understand where he is coming from, but they still would never feel the same way we would. This incident that probably only took 2-3 minutes will most likely completely change the campus. If the herbicide has spread, then they have to excavate the entire Samford Lawn, and replace all the beautiful trees, shrubs, and flowers on the south side of the Lawn.

Actually was at the store and heard some Alabama fans here in town saying the same thing, that it's only trees. Some guy asked them what they would think if someone went to Denny Chimes and filled in the names with concrete. They got mad and the guy said "why? it's just concrete". They shut up then.

I have been thinking about the poisoning of our oaks for several weeks now and have come to the following conclusions. I view all the political correct talk as just that - the official politically correct thing to say. In my opinion, it is much like the support for Auburn in the BCS National Championship game. Many bammers claimed to pull for Auburn, but off the official record they wanted us to lose. Again, in my opinion, this comes from a deep-seated lack of respect for everything Auburn.

If you watched the pre-game of the 1989 Auburn - Alabama game, the first played in Jordan-Hare Stadium, you heard one of the commentators talk about how all the bluebloods went to Alabama - the sons and daughters of doctors and lawyers sent to UA to be doctors and lawyers. He said that it was only natural for these blueblood students and alumni who look down their noses at others as being beneath them to feel the same way when it came to Auburn University and its students and alumni and fans. That short pre-game explanation of the rivalry is about as dead-on as I have heard from any impartial source. What we have here is a basic lack of respect for anything and everything Auburn. This lack of respect was furthered by coaches like Bryant who showed contempt for Auburn by referring to us as the "Cow College" and Francionne who would not say Auburn University, but referred to us as that "shool down the road". This lack of respect comes not only from many of the fans but also from the administration of UA. So how can they expect us to believe they are sincere about the loss of the Toomer's oaks? I am not convinced they are sincerely upset. Their coaches, their administration and all the alumni and fans have tried to marginalize Auburn since the start. This takes the form of something as simple as only allowing 5 digits on an AU license tag where there were 6 allowed on a UA tag. Doesn't sound like much, but it makes a big difference in what you can say on a personalized tag and how you say it. I believe that has been changed with the new design or at least I hope it has. While that may seem silly, it is a way that some bammer fan in state government who had the ability used his job to marginalize Auburn and its fans. This type of thing goes on all the time so I have a hard time believing them when they say they are sorry. Sure some of them are good people and are sincere, but many of them are laughing when they get in a group with other bammers.

One of the problems is that the bammers don't understand traditions. If you ask them what is the tradition of the UA football program, they will say a winning tradition. In the post Bryant era that hasn't been the case. They have won 2 National Championships in the last 25 years. Auburn holds the edge in the AU-UA game over this period of time, so how is banking on a winning tradition working out for them. It isn't. The other traditions, except possibliy for the rammer jammer cheer, were copied from Auburn. Auburn has had a Tiger Walk since back in the 60's. We have had rolling Toomer's Corner for about as long. UA now has their Elephant Walk, but it is a copy of the Tiger Walk. The reason - back when we were starting Tiger Walk, the only walking the UA football team did was to the bus for the drive to Birmingham's Legion Field. Flying Tiger at home games is a relatively new tradition for Auburn, but one never to be copied by UA with a flying elephant. So it is understandable that they have no clue when we talk traditions. Traditions are the things that bind us to Auburn University as a fan even when times are not good. Bammers have nothing to bind them to UA except winning and when they don't win the fanbase suffers from a huge lack of self esteem that only winning can give them. No wonder they don't understand us and our traditions. When you combine their arrogance and lack of respect for Auburn with their lack of understanding of trations, it's no wonder we don't trust that they aren't actually our trees were poisoned. After all it is all of what makes them UA fans that caused this guy to think that he would be a hero to the UA fanbase for doing what he did. In many cases I am afraid he is consider just that. Now I have this off my chest.

Maybe they can't copy the flying eagle, but they could have the elephant walk across the field. Sure it would defecate on the field, but nobody would notice the difference.

I heard a few turd nation supporters who are supposed to be like school teachers say,"what's the big deal? They're just trees". A few idiot mush-brained students had the same "opinion". My response was," My friends and I can do a C-4 job on Denny Chimes. After all, isn't that just another clock?"

Stupidity is everywhere and I violated a rule I try to live by, but I went ahead and cast pearls before the swine anyway.

Aside from the state and federal law violations , we simply don't destroy an icon. One more tree incident tied to the turds and someone, somewhere will retaliate. Let us pray that never happens no matter how ignorant and stupid some bammers are.

Believe it or not, some of us really do understand. For me personally, It wouldn't matter if it were the trees at Toomers, I would feel the same way at Auburn if it were one of the bushes surrounding a dorm or something. It's your property. I just don't like people messing with my stuff. I wouldn't like to spend my good money to replace something that someone who had no business being there ruined. I've always felt that way, I promise I will never harm/destroy any Auburn fan's property, and I expect the same.

I've had Auburn friends that soaped my car with the score when Auburn won, and frankly I didn't appreciate it. I don't do that, so I don't appreciate it being done to me. I also made him pay for having it washed and waxed. Just leave my stuff alone. It may mean nothing to you, but whatever it is could mean a lot to me.

BMH, thank you. It's about time someone posted or said something like that. It isn't just a tree, its our property. If it was a block of concrete it would be the same way. Your post hit it right on the nail and I for one appreciate that. Thank you
