Who is the most hated in the SEC?

Just a hunch:

1) Alabama

2) Florida

3) LSU

4) Georgia

5) Tennessee

6) Auburn

7) Arkansas

(1) and (2) could swap positions depending on which conference, and (3) through (7) would have different rankings in other conferences' views.

Meyer and Saban have led the way in hate. Miles third. The other four in the top 7 aren't factors in the hate game as much as (1) and (2) but Auburn is gaining ground after Cam. Some may have Auburn as high as (3). The Mississippi schools and Vandy just don't register on the hate scale, and until Spurrier gets his group going USCe won't either. Kentucky? Nope.

I'd love to see a poll on this issue!

Easily, it's Auburn. The other in-conference schools are extremely hateful and jealous towards Auburn and Gene Chizik. They keep whining about the Cam Newton non-issue because they don't want to admit that they got whipped fair and square.

Schools in other conferences hate the SEC and right now Auburn is the SEC's poster team. I don't think it's even close. Once again "We're Number One!"

This.

Florida is perceived as a team that's supposed to be good.

So is Alabama.

UGA has a "good guy" for a coach.

UT hasn't had a good season since before Fulmer left.

LSU is expected to be a**holes and the hat is too crazy to hate.

Auburn, however, somehow picked up a reputation as a bunch of puritanical elitists that only win because we cheat. People think that we're a bunch of a**holes that pretend to be nice.

Most of the people that think that haven't been to Auburn.

Those that have don't see things that way.

Meh. I live outside the SEC and have for the past few years. I think, this season, we might be at the top, but that hasn't been true. I also don't think it will continue. We may not like this, but Auburn doesn't have the juice outside the SEC. We aren't the face of the conference. I heard a LOT more derogatory stuff about Bama and LSU than Auburn. At the moment, sure. We're it. Six months ago? Not even close. Six months from now? Probably not.

Yes and Yes.

Mcgufcm has a point too. Next year when we finish in the bottom half of the Top Twenty, folks will have forgotten about their hate for us and will have moved on to the next MNC.

They will be back in 2012.

I think the question should be reworded and say which team's fans express the most hate.

This Duck's perceptions on how a Pac-12 fan might rank SEC teams on "hate" level...

1) Alabama- For better or worst, it seems like they are sometimes kind of the face of the SEC in the last few years. Like most AU folks could agree with... We got very sick of hearing about how they were football demi-gods who were unbeatable... and then how they were hands down the best one loss team in the country... and then how, well they were FOR SURE the best 2 loss team in the country...

2) LSU- I know a lot of Pac-12 fans who think LSU in general, and Les Miles in particular, is the embodiment of all that so many outside the SEC hate about the SEC, I get that Les is just politicking to get his team in a better bowl a lot of the time... but he makes some just flat out retarded implications about other conferences, specifically the Pac-10 (I remember when he used to hate on USC in press conferences about how they didn't have to play anybody... meanwhile, for a good 5+ year stretch, the only teams that ever actually beat 'SC were... Pac-10 teams.) Ducks are looking forward to shutting him up next season.

3) Auburn- A year ago, I'd have placed you guys much lower on this list. But the combination of on field success and perceived (not saying there is any substance) "off field issues" and "cheating" has raised the hatred level. Not my own opinion and I think you'd find a lot of Pac-12'ers that liked you guys (I guarantee you AU folks would be welcomed by Beavers and Huskies) but I also really don't think your more hated then LSU or 'Bama in general.

4) Florida- Kind of losing steam in the hatred category. Definitely would have been higher a year ago but again... during the peak of Urban's reign... They seemed a very cocky bunch.

5) Tennessee- Losing more and more steam. Almost all Oregon fans I know who went to UT had a great time and raved about the hospitality of Volunteer Nation. Rave reviews across the board, seriously... I don't know a single Duck who didn't enjoy Rocky Top. Yet also, from the perspective of other schools... Cal had a bit of a blood feud with them. My roommate Junior and Senior Year's best friend went to Cal and my older sister is a Cal grad. Their game at Rocky Top was a nightmare and the "revenge game" in Berkeley the next year was a straight up grudge match. Not much love for Volunteers in the Bay Area. I'm interested to see what happens when they return to Eugene in 2 years, at a time when I suspect UT will be MUCH stronger in Dooley's 3rd year... might not be such a friendly game day atmosphere then.

6) Georgia- Starting to get to where you can't really call it "hatred" anymore but none the less a lot of older UGA fans always seem very sure of themselves and how tough of a team they are. Keep in mind, A Pac-12 team that will probably finish, 9th or 8th AT BEST next year (Colorado) beat them in Boulder this year. Yet I guarantee there are still UGA fans who would still lord their imagined superiority over the Pac-12... even as a bottom dweller whips them.

The rest...

7) South Carolina

8) Arkansas

9) Kentucky

10) Ole Miss

11) Mississippi State

12) Vanderbilt

Vandy being last is the only sure fire, cant miss, pick. Ole Miss/MSU are pretty definitely right in front of them, I put Ole Miss higher purely out of spite for Masoli so take from that what you will. South Carolina, despite recent success this year, didn't get higher because well... they are kinda usually the little engine that couldn't from the perspective of the West Coast. The other 6 are real threats while with 'SC, right or wrong, I think most Pac-12 fans go "Good for them and the Ol' Ball Coach" when they win.

I really do think 'Bama and LSU occupy the top spots from Pac-12 POV. Just my opinion though.

I think Dixie Duck is pretty close with his rankings. Here is mine: Unfortunately, some people might even have Auburn #1 or #2 these days. Bama and Florida are probably the two most well-known SEC programs and there is a lot of hate for those two. So I'd say the current list is probably:

1. Bama: I hate to say it, but they (and Florida) are largely the face of the SEC. Many of their fans are either arrogant or rednecks (or both). All of the talk of their traditions, their recent national championship and their "rock star" coach makes a lot of people very tired of them. Poisoning our trees did not help their image.

2. Auburn: The combination of our national championship which to seemed to come "out of nowhere" combined with the questions about Cam's recruitment and Nick Fairley's supposed "dirty play" and there is a lot of hate towards us right now. As others have mentioned, this will probably reduce quickly (assuming we don't have another run at the BCS) and I'd expect us to fall to around 4-6.

3. Florida: Along with Bama, the other most famous program in the conference. They have been the most successful SEC program of the last twenty years, and the combo of Spurrier and Urban is not exactly known for being humble. And while I personally liked Tim Tebow people got very tired of all the media love for the guy.

4. LSU: Crazy cajuns and a crazy coach. Two BCS titles, yet somehow still a bit more under the national radar than the three teams I already listed. SEC fans know how wild this bunch is, but I think nationally they just don't have the same name recognition.

5. Tenn: Fulmer and Kiffin made a lot of enemies, but Tenn has not been good enough in recent years to get people really boiling.

After that, I don't think any of the teams have widespread hate against them.

Notice that the five teams on my list are the five SEC teams that have won BCS titles. When you are successful people dislike you.

Thanks for the outside perspective, DixieDuck, and great to see you still around. Keep us posted on Oregon's offseason. I'm not sure Auburn's really going to be in the title mix next season, so I'd love to see your Ducks make some noise again.

Not quite directly on topic, but a year ago on a nationally/internationally oriented website there was a poll on a similar topic.

Based on the Top 25 at the time at http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/rankings/all_time_team_rankings.php

the question was: "Which Top 25 Teams do you hate most?"

The responses from 82 individuals in a multiple choice selection were:

Notre Dame 34 41.46%
Ohio State 21 25.61%
Michigan 18 21.95%
Miami (FL) 17 20.73%
Florida 14 17.07%
Southern California 14 17.07%
Florida State 10 12.20%
Georgia 9 10.98%
Alabama 8 9.76%
Oklahoma 7 8.54%
Penn State 7 8.54%
Texas 7 8.54%
Auburn (AL) 6 7.32%
Tennessee 5 6.10%
Nebraska 4 4.88%
LSU 4 4.88%
Georgia Tech 4 4.88%
Texas A&M 4 4.88%
UCLA 3 3.66%
Pittsburgh (PA) 2 2.44%
Washington 2 2.44%
Michigan State 2 2.44%
Illinois 2 2.44
Arkansas 1 1.22%
Minnesota 1 1.22%

Do we know of similar polls aimed at just the SEC teams?

As they say, turnabout is fair play. I only hate one team, bama, but my dislike rankings for the PAC?? is:

1. USC---the university of spoiled children

2. California--who can like anything in Berkley?

3. Oregon--Phil Knight says it all plus my wife is an oregon St. grad

4. Stanford--too snobbish and think they are better than everyone else

5-? About the same

Last--Oregon St. How can anyone not not like Beavers? :big:

Thanks. Our only real problem is rebuilding the lines, O-Line in particular. Right now I'd say we're the clear front runner to 3-peat as Pac-12 champs and stand a good chance in the Title Race. LSU will pretty much give us an immediate, Day 1, indicator of where we stand. We'll see...

Haha! The mere fact that you would rank anybody as less hated then poor little Wazzou casts suspicion on everything you said... Of course, I can see how somebody with ties to the team that finally let Wazzou end their 3 year conference loss streak might not like the boys in red and silver.... :poke::P

I don't give much of a rats about Wazzou, Mizzou, Shitzoo, or wahtever. You had Auburn #3 and I had Oregon #3. keep on and I will move Oregon up a notch and pluck a duck. :poke:

I didn't say my rankings reflect my personal opinion, just what I think most Pac-12 fans would rate as "most hated." Personally, Auburn's a lot further down on my list. If I'm ranking them based soley on how much DixieDuck dislikes SEC Schools...

1) LSU

2) Alabama

3) Florida

4) Ole Miss

Those are the only ones I can think of any real reason to dislike them, no real hard feelings for the rest. Auburn included.

In the search for a poll online directed at the SEC schools, I ran across

http://www.secfanatics.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72718

Your most hated SEC school

92 posts

I'm still looking for such a thing aimed at a non-SEC audience and hopefully one that has a summary of the results.

My best guess is you will get a winner from the Big Six or Seven schools in the SEC with the outright winner being a momentary or at least regional choice.

It really would be fun to see a by-conference breakdown of the question and where the hatred is focused in various parts of the country. I suspect whoever is on top at the moment will have the most votes, but that that result will vary year to year. I can't imagine any SEC school beating out Notre Dame!

I would agree but I've traveled all over the country and almost everywhere I've been the answer for most hatred was usually bama.

Good to know! Reminds me of Daddy's favorite teams:

1) Auburn

2) Whoever's playing Bama

3) Whoever's playing Notre Dame
