RunInRed 18,935
A lot of people are high on Cam. Amazing how those who get to know him always end up saying the same thing, isn't it? And how about the shot from Saban, what a DB. John Elway on Cam Newton: ‘He’s incredibly talented’ As far as Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway is concerned, Auburn quarterback Cam Newton is a rare talent. He's not alone in that opinion. Alabama coach Nick Saban told the Denver Broncos executive that Auburn wouldn't have won four games last season without Newton. Of course, they won the national championship with the Heisman Trophy winner spearheading the Tigers' cause. "I think that he’s incredibly talented," Elways said in remarks distributed by the team. "If you look at the way that he played, I mean, you watch him on tape and I’m trying to think if there’s anybody in recent memory that’s as athletic at that position as Cam is. You watch what he did last year, winning a national title. One of the interesting things is we went down and saw Nick Saban when we were down at Alabama’s Pro Day, and we’re talking about obviously all his players and then we asked him about Cam, and he said that team would not have won four games if it wasn’t for Cam Newton. That tells you how much of a special player he is. We had him in here yesterday. He’s a pleasant guy and a guy that obviously is another guy that had one great year, but is a guy that to me has shown a heck of a lot of resilience from what he did when he left Florida and went to Blinn Community College and then to Auburn. "If you look at the way he plays—and not only do we watch point-of-attack tapes on him, but also if you watch game tape of Cam—he’s a guy that has rare competitive instincts in the second half. A lot of those football games they were behind in that second half and he was, the great competitor that he was, he got them back in and won all of those football games. He’s got a lot of unique traits. I think that he’s, obviously being in the shotgun like he has, he hasn’t spent a lot of time under the center, which I think is an adjustment, and it takes a bit of time. But obviously he’s a guy that mechanically and athletically is not going to have an issue when he goes under center. It’s just going to take a little bit of time.” Read more: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=nfp-20110420_john_elway_on_cam_newton_hes_incredibly_talented

RunInRed 18,935
Pulled from another board ($1 to RR), hilarious... According to Nick Saban, his 2010 Alabama squad blew a 24 point lead, at home, to a one-man team.Great coaching job, Nick. Clearly you are worth the money. AUslug 1
Well without Julio to bail out his Heisman trophy winning running back in the 09 Iron Bowl, Bama leaves JHS with yet another loss. I find it comical that most of these so called "experts" ignore the entire team and focus on Cam.

Mikey 16,781
$aban was born a bammer, he didn't have to learn to be one after he got there. That team would have won 10 games without Cam. They would have done it in a different way, but 10 wins was a good prediction considering that Trotter or Caudle would have been the QB. Dinky knows this, but he hates it so much that he won't admit it.

RunInRed 18,935
Saban clarifies, fair... One of the NFL people who picked Saban's brain last month at Alabama's Pro Day was John Elway, the new executive vice president of football operations for the Denver Broncos. According to Elway, after discussing players Saban coached, they talked about a player Saban opposed - Cam Newton.Elway described the conversation with Saban during a Wednesday press conference about the draft: "We asked him about Cam, and he said that team would not have won four games if it wasn't for Cam Newton. That tells you how much of a special player he is." Elway should've chosen his words more carefully. It could be interpreted that Saban was saying Auburn would've been 3-9 or worse without Newton last season, perhaps exaggerating to Elway to make a point about just how valuable Newton was. But it's not like Saban to criticize opponents, before or after the fact. On the contrary, he usually goes out of his way to be complimentary of other teams and their players and coaches. Saban himself tried to clear up any confusion before Thursday night's Crimson Caravan stop in Montgomery. He said he'd told Elway that Newton was responsible for four "more" victories for the Tigers last season. "What I said was it was a compliment to Cam Newton, certainly not a disrespect to Auburn and their team and what they accomplished because they had an outstanding team, they're national champs, they did a great job," Saban said. That sounds more like it. With essentially the same team in 2009, minus Newton, Auburn went 8-5. Add Newton, who put together the single greatest individual season in college football history, and Auburn added six victories and subtracted five defeats to finish 14-0. Break it down. Without Newton's 217 rushing yards, does Auburn beat LSU? Without his four touchdowns, does Auburn come back from 24-0 to beat Alabama 28-27? I could go on, but you get the point. It's the same point Saban said he'd made that Elway could've articulated better, if he was going to go public with what Saban no doubt intended as private comments in the first place. Newton wasn't a one-man team by any means, but he did take Auburn from good to great. No one knows that better than Saban. He watched the 2009 Auburn team, without Newton, force his Alabama national championship team to come from behind to win in Jordan-Hare Stadium. A year later, he watched Auburn's 2010 national championship team, with Newton, come from behind to win in Bryant-Denny. It's always fascinating to hear Saban break down players, but it's always better to hear him do it himself and not through an interpreter like Elway. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/04/better_to_hear_nick_sabans_wor.html
