Auburn's Bramblett named 2010 Alabama Sportscaster of the Year

SALISBURY, N.C. — Rod Bramblett, the lead announcer for the Auburn Sports Network, has been named the 2010 Alabama Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Bramblett was honored Monday at the NSSA Award Banquet and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

Bramblett is the play-by-play voice for Auburn football, men’s basketball and baseball. He also serves as host for the weekly coaches' radio show “Tiger Talk,” as well as host for the Auburn Football and Basketball Review television shows.

“This is a great honor. It is particularly special since this award is voted on by my broadcasting peers here in the state of Alabama,” Bramblett said. “While this award has my name on it, this belongs to our entire broadcast team ... both on the air and behind the scenes. We have the most dedicated, passionate and professional group of broadcasters out there. It’s a great privilege to represent them in Salisbury.”

This fall, Bramblett will enter his ninth season as the lead announcer for Auburn football and men’s basketball and his 20th season as the lead announcer for Auburn baseball.

“From our football team’s run to the BCS National Championship to his call of Creed Simpson’s dramatic walk-off home run against Clemson in the 2010 NCAA baseball regional, Rod Bramblett had a year of memorable calls that will forever live in Auburn lore,” Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs said. “Rod is a consummate professional and one of the hardest-working broadcasters in the business as the voice of the Auburn Tigers in three major sports. Being named the 2010 Alabama Sportscaster of the Year is a richly deserved honor. On behalf of the entire Auburn family, I would like to congratulate Rod and thank him for giving us calls that will always stir memories of a great year for Auburn.”

Bramblett also won the Alabama Sportscaster of the Year award in 2006. He is among 110 State Sportscasters and Sportswriters of the Year from 49 states and the District of Columbia who was honored at the NSSA’s 52nd Annual Awards Dinner on Monday.

Mark McCarter of the Huntsville Times was also be honored with his third Alabama Sportswriter of the Year Award.

That was certainly an awesome moment. I was watching it live when it happened. Like Rod said: UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Oh and the reference he made to David Ross doing the same thing in his hometown in 1997, I was there. Tallahassee Regional against FSU. saturday morning winners bracket game. That place fell completely silent other than a few of us Auburn fans that were in attendance. I'll never forget it.
