Grant originally chose Alabama over Auburn and was part of the Tide's 2010 signing class, but decided to switch back because he says he likes Auburn's offense better. Alabama coach Nick Saban said two weeks ago it was "a little bit of a surprise" Grant had left his program. Grant said he doesn't hold any ill will toward the Tide.

"I think sometimes you go to a place at the wrong time," Grant told AuburnSports.com. "Alabama is a great place. I learned a lot of things. I got better in a lot of areas I needed to improve on.

"I don't leave Alabama with any hard feelings. I just felt like I would be a better fit at Auburn."

Rivals rated him the No. 5 player in Alabama and the No. 5 all-purpose back in the country his senior year at Opelika.

What's the current status on Tre Mason? And possibly LP?

We are stacked at the RB position it would seem.

It's strange to me that a player who played at Opelika would go to bama in the first place.

Forgot about those two ... edited to add above.

I thought I read somewhere that Tre is fine but I'm probably wrong.

Welcome Grant, WDE! Here's to hoping the NCAA clears Blakely

There's something here I don't understand:

Muschamp gave Blakeley a release to Auburn and Blakeley has to sit out a year.

Saban in all likelihood did not and will not release Grant to Auburn. Why does Grant not have to sit out two years?

I thought the rule was sit out one year to transfer out of conference, release or not. Sit out one year to transfer within conference with a specific release. Sit out two years to transfer within conference with no release.

Does Grant intend to sit out two more years on top of his just completed redshirt year before he plays again? He'd be better served to go to JUCO for one year, play there and come to Auburn with three years to play three.

Can anyone explain what's going on with this angle of Grant's transfer to Auburn? Thanks in advance.

I'm honestly completely lost in all the eligibility rules, exceptions, and loopholes when it comes to this stuff.

Was it made official that Blakely couldn't play this year? I don't remember reading it.

It also hasn't been announced that Blakely will have to sit out a year. Nothing has been decided in his case yet, so he may (should, if i read the rules right) get to play this coming season.

Grant will only have to sit out 1 year and then have 3 years of eligibility, I believe.

If that's the case, what good is a release and why even worry about one? If the difference is going on scholarship vs. walking on, I can see that. With the grants available to most of these guys that makes the release almost a non-factor.

To answer above, no it has not yet been ruled that Blakeley cannot play this year, but I don't think it's going to go our way. The default in his case is to sit out a year. I can't think of a single reason why the NCAA would want to set such a precedent just to help good ol' Auburn out.

PS: WarTiger: Why do you think Blakeley will be granted a waiver to play this year?

In short, walking-on is a loop hole in the transfer rule. But there are no guarantees - he has to earn a spot/scholarship.

Ok, that works!

based on what I read concerning players that are early enrollees not actually signing any letter of intent. Since there is no letter of intent signed, players (in the past) have been able to transfer to another school and not sit a year. Whether that loop hole still exists, I'm not sure, or whether its even accurate I'm not sure. I'm certainly no expert on player eligibility. Keep in mind my info is second hand at best, so I make no absolute claims to the above info.

Some one needs to tell Mike Dubberly about outside influences...

Corey Grants says UA offense didn't fit him like AU. But, did he not analyze that when recruited?

@dubmeister

That one's easy: he didn't realize what an offensive genius Gus Malzahn is when he signed with Bama.

So, to recap for those playing along at home...

Blakely is still seeking a ruling for being eligible for '11.

Grant will have to sit out.

Mason still hasn't been cleared... correct ?

So, as of present, AU has ...

McCalebb

Dyer

Morgan

Phillips

Man, I really would like for AU to go 2 for 2 in getting Blakely and Mason cleared for '11. Could change the entire season, no ?

According to Brian Matthews on the radio, Tre Mason is qualified, on campus and will start classes tomorrow.

Quan Bray will get some carries, probably Trovon Reed too, and possibly even CJ Uzomah.

I wonder whatever happened to Travante Stallworth? Dog house? Seemed like he was showing potential as a WR/RB hybrid type a couple years ago, but he's disappeared.
