Tigermike 4,005
Durbin: Illegal Alien Could Be Our Future President After using illegal immigrants as props to push the DREAM Act, Sen. Durbin (D-IL) made the following statement at a Senate committee hearing: "When I look around this room, I see America's future. Our doctors, our teachers, our nurses, our engineers, our scientists, our soldiers, our Congressman, our Senators and maybe our President." However, Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution says: "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President." link
jj3jordan 2,205
That should be grounds for immediate dismissal or recall.

Justin5 20
Stupid gaff. I suppose we could amend the constitution though, we is why you could argue the merits of "maybe be our President". Still dumb though.
AURaptor 1,137
Michelle Bachmann confused John Wayne w/ John Wayne Gacey. Pay attention to that. She's stupid. She's a neanderthal conservative, a religious nut job. This ? He was tired. Anyone would make that mistake. Move on, nothing to see here.... AURaptor 1,137
Is Durbin running for President? No. Why do you ask ? Oh, it only is a stupid comment when a Presidential candidate says it ? Funny, there wasn't the hammering of Obama on his 57 states remark, or when he commented on the 10,000 deaths in Kansas from a tornado ...( it was only 12 ) So,apparently, gaffes from politicians are only relevant when said by Republicans running for President. All others ? Meh.... he was tired, or wasn't running for the White House, etc... so we'll just move on now.
autiger4life 3
What is wrong with what he said. Arnold Schwarzenegger has had tons of support for a constitutional amendment to change that part of the constitution. Are you guys are assuming he didn't mean an amendment, because that is what I assumed.
TitanTiger 21,774
No. Why do you ask ? Oh, it only is a stupid comment when a Presidential candidate says it ? No, it just gets noticed a whole lot more when a Presidential candidate says it. Funny, there wasn't the hammering of Obama on his 57 states remark, or when he commented on the 10,000 deaths in Kansas from a tornado ...( it was only 12 ) So,apparently, gaffes from politicians are only relevant when said by Republicans running for President. Jason Sudekis has a regular bit on SNL portraying Biden saying idiotic stuff. It's not as much Dem vs GOP as it is people who regularly mangle stuff vs those who do it once in a while. Nothing in the list Durbin gave required any amendment to the Constitution, save one. President. And you over estimate the support Arnold had for President. Sure, at the start of his 1st term as Governor, there was talk of a possible changing of the constitution, but not much ever happened with that. The Founders knew what they were doing, and the talk of changing anything on behalf of The Governator never really got past the idle discussion phase. Sure as hell cooled off during his 2nd term, and all but stopped when his affair(s) ? were made public.

There's making mention of something, and then there's mass coverage of an issue, by the MSM , to the point of nauseum. SNL skits ? Yeah, those bits on Biden didn't get near the coverage by the MSM as Palin's " I can see Russia from my house ! " routine. Again, the MSM will repeat that which fits into their agenda as often as they like, and minimalize that which doesn't fit into their agenda. Well, Tina Fey's bit was funnier and she's almost a dead ringer for Palin when she dresses the same. Plus, Palin was a much bigger deal than Biden in general, apart from any gaffes. She energized a moribund GOP ticket for a while and had a chance to make history almost as much as Obama being the first black president. Not everything is a conspiracy by a cabal of MSM agents. CNN talked about Texas Sen. [R] John Cornyn yesterday after he criticized Obama and the Democrats on balancing the budget. I think he got more attention than Durbin did. Oh and do you know who they talked to on CNN about Cornyn? It was Dick Durbin.
