Ohio State vacates 2010 season football wins, including Sugar Bowl victory (updated)

View full sizeOhio State University has vacated football wins from 2010 season, including 2011 Sugar Bowl victory.COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State says it's vacating its wins from the 2010 football season, including the Buckeyes' victory over Arkansas in the 2011 Sugar Bowl.

Responding to NCAA allegations over a memorabilia-for-cash scandal that cost former coach Jim Tressel his job, Ohio State says today it also is waiving a $250,000 fine it had imposed on Tressel and changing his resignation to a retirement.

Through the school, the ex-Buckeyes coach says that he is taking responsibility for the NCAA inquiry, which developed after it was learned Tressel failed to report players receiving improper benefits.

The university also is imposing a 2-year probation period on the program, which means there would be harsher penalties if any further wrongdoing is discovered.

The 2010 regular season schedule included games against Marshall, Miami (Florida), Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, Penn State, Iowa and Michigan.

Do they think that will appease the NCAA?

They are hoping but I think they are whistling past the grave yard. INHO the NCAA will hammer them. And they should.

What did Tennessee get when Bruce Pearl lied to the NCAA? Ohio St should receive 10 times more.

But that's just me.

The NCAA is going to add no post season games for 2 years and loss of some scholarships. The dreaded loss of institutional control. And they tried to cover this up.

OH, I think it could be more like 3 years + schollies. The AD was obviously not too worried about Tressel repeatedly breaking rules or else he would have done more than just writing him up.

after what GaTech just got OSU better watch out, especially if the AD knew Tressel was not reporting and nothing in the end was done to correct it.

The folks at the ncaa seem to have a chip on their shoulder. Not playing nice w/ them will cost ya. Glad we've been up front and cooperative.

Well, at least they won't have to vacate any BSCCG wins over SEC schools!:lol:
