Interior Lineman

Ive read the posts of all of people on here. Auburn's main problem on defense  besides LB depth was Interior Di- lineman. Auburn has address other spots on the team. We have a plethera of offensive talent thats been assembled. I would like to get back to the real reason why AU is AU. I used to look out there and go crazy with the defensive tackles we had. Nick Farley in my opinion was the only DT that brought in the games I saw. Every one going crazy bout the offensive power we got. We better gets sum QUALITY DTs and Noseguards because the D-line was suspect. I dont like Tracy Rocker over the D-line either. He looks like he doesnt have a say in the Defense. Let me know what yall think WDE !

we all know what t. rocker is capable of as a d-line coach, just look at miss st. the last couple of years, give him some time and some recruits, and i'm positive our d-line will be the least of auburns worries. :wareagle:

Coach Rocker does a great job with the defensive line. As soon as he gets the depth and talent he needs things will be on the upswing. He did a great job at Arkansas and Ole Miss so I don't expect it to be any different at Auburn.

Yeah your rite. Rocker did the best job he could do. I guess I thought we would get more out of Blanc , Ricks , and Clayton. I guess if they had adaquate backups they would have did better. Just looking at the DT(not D- ends) it seems like the people we got coming in is Ken Carter and we hoping to land Mike Thorton. I woulda perferred some of the big name recruits we didnt go after at DT

i believe that coach chizik is a defensive genius, i believe that if he sees something in roof, then there must be something there. i don't know, i'm no guru, i'm just a fan. have some patience and who knows what heights AU might reach. :believe:

We will most likely get Jeff Whitaker. Who is arguably the best DT in this class. He is a monster in the trenches. Carter is a very good DT as well. He had a great AL MS allstar game. And we might get Thornton who is very quick for a DT.

I have really high hopes on Fairley for his upcoming senior year. He has a lot of potential if he will just learn to harness it.

I also think Lykes will make progress with time. He played a lot as a RSF and he has potential. Needs to work on his size and strength but he should be a good one.

Fairley will be a Junior in 2010. Also, didn't Clayton have nagging injuries throughout the season that limited his playing time.

I think prior to this season, during the CTT era, most of us were spoiled on one side of the ball and lulled to sleep on the other. Everyone had come to expect the same gritty and stubburn AU defense we have year in and year out. While at the same time, our ineffective offense had taken center stage among concerns for several years. I think most of us had been distracted by our offensive woes and took our D for granted. We lost a lot of talent on D to injury and the NFL, and it will take a couple of years to bounce back.  CGC is a proven defensive coach. We have to have patience and faith in him and his AUsome staff!

Fairley was a juco resign. He at best has three to play two. Unless he redshirts which I do not see in his future. He will be a senior this coming year.

I believe that is correct......

Nope. Fairley redshirted his second year at JUCO. Thus he has 3 years to play 3. He will be a redshirt JR in 2010. Same thing that Eltoro did. Same thing thing that Terrance Coleman plan on doing.

I am not trying to be a jerk, but it is posts like this that make me want to circle the wagons around Auburn faithful that are educated to this football team then cut all others off.

Number One

Don’t call out that man….behind Chiz – he is the most talented defensive mind on the field. His track record is without question. There is not a better D line coach in the conference (coaching and recruiting).

Number Two

We don’t have enough guys on defense to run a good base “D”. We were hovering in the low 70’s on scholarship toward the end of this season and played with 3 backers, thin secondary and little to no substitution. You more than likely get winded if you run a mile. Now think about taking 114 snaps full speed with no help in sight. There is no comparison to the mental and physical pressures placed on the defense when there is no one coming off the sideline. That little meeting Coleman had with Chizik mid season was more than likely a cry for help, in which the answer was Apollo 13 you are on your on suck it up.

You do understand we run a variation of the Tampa 2 and the success of the D-Line and ultimately the system is stellar play from your linebacking crew and lockdown corners. Please review your tivo games and tell me how many times we were forced to run vanilla sets, rush 4 (the same 4 most of the time) and drop men into zone to protect our very young and thinning secondary. We blitzed only in the most desperate situations. Please watch the national championship game between Texas and USC at the Rose Bowl and that is how the Tampa 2 runs with a full complement of players.

They are recruiting these positions. Give them time…

now that's what I'm talking about! I've been having bad dreams at night about freaking Northwestern completing 60 passes on us. On most plays, it just seemed like he had all day to throw.

Actually the Tampa 2 system is most successful when a team can get pressure with just the front 4. The LBers do blitz some, but ultimately the DE need to be great at getting pressure (Freeny and Mathis) and the DT stop the run. LBers and S are there to clean up anything missed. Tampa 2 requires a dominate DT as well, like Warren Sapp. That is Indy's problem with their Tampa 2, their DT are average at best.

I don think that Rocker has the horses he needs. Lets face it Blanc and Ricks are not NFL material. But Jake Ricks is my favorite player. When we get Whitaker and another DT (probably Jones) to match with Carter and Fairly, we will be fine.

I aint critize any one for a opinion. I dont need no validation from you about what I saw this year. I dont  know about you but I saw a d line that couldnt get a pash rush and it affected the back seven. The arkansas game was an of example of that. Yes depth was a its was like a 7 on 11 drill at times because when we were vanilla on D no pass rush. AC wanted to move to LB to help the LB corps but it would have left the d line. We dont run Tampa 2 either. Roof has been playin a man to man.

Lykes is a home town guy from Clanton, AL. so I may be a little biased. He's listed at 6'4" 285 lbs I think. How much bigger do you want him??? I agree with your opinion, he'll be in the mix a lot more next year. He's also said that no one has promised him anything. That the ONLY  way you get ANY playing time is by earning it the hard way. Glad to see him under CTR.

BTW ...he came out of hs as a "2 star" somewhat because of an ankle injury his senior year. Let's see where he ends up before he leaves AU.
