Football Stadium

I know we are seeing ourselves slip with our size of stadium to the UAT stadium, do you or has anyone heard of anything on expansion?  Probably not with the lack of sell outs but I would love to see 1 side closed in.  I searched so as not to miss discussion in case this is already alive, did not find anything, still a newby on the board, but, this thing is cool.  Lots of great AU information.  Thanks!!!

Sorry, just curious. I did catch myself trying to find out if it was already a beaten topic.  I remember when we added the first upper deck.  I got a tee shirt saying the satdium that James Brooks built.  Classic.  I also remember getting hammered by Tenn as a welcome to our new addition game in orange shirts.  Good memories.  Sorry to stir an issue.  Just hate seeing the bammers sand box getting bigger than our family reunion fall gathering place.

Just a quick look back at the last four pages in Auburn Recruiting.  Here are the number of topics for a few of the top recruits still out there.  These are just the ones with their name in the topic.  I don't mean anything by this but I'm just saying...

Seastrunk  6

Lattimore    6

Mack  3

Stone  2

Newton 4  (no longer a recruit)

Lemonier  3

Thanks AUTROOPER for the link and bkaufan for understanding my attempt to join.  Sorry to stir the seasoned veterans on the board.  I am figuring out how to move around the board better and use the search.  I slomenly swear I will become a solid citizen of proper board utilization soon.  I still say this is the most informative detailed Auburn site I have ever seen.  Thanks.  I look forward to getting my feet under me and adding some accurate updates to the forums also.

Welcome Shug and I am one of the old farts on this site, according to bird and DJ, it took me awhile to figure out how to move around the board as well.

I would rather see Auburn build the stands closer to the field, i.e. making the sidelines smaller if that's possible.  I know one of the main reasons the swamp is so loud is because of the small sidelines.

Expansion depends on many factors as discussed here and in previous threads.

Economics aside, there are issues with the structural capability to add seating in the north end zone. There is an underground river, I have been told, that would not allow the proper support of an upper deck without some severe and extremely expensive footers - if they could do that at all.

Others with more intimate information can add to this and discuss the amount of work and engineering required to build a structure over this soft and possibly shifting base.

well, our seats go all the way to the ground as it is.  So there are only two ways to get seats closer to the field:

1. Have a few rows of seats at field level. (These would be the worst seats in the house.)

2. Lower the playing surface and extend the seats to it. (This could work, but we could only add a couple of rows because lowering the field too much will interfer with the line of sight from the upper decks.)

I actually would like to see them lower the playing surface a few feet. not to add rows, but to get the first row a little higher. You can't see anything right now if you are on the 1st or 2nd row behind the players. and I doubt a few feet would mess up the view from the upper deck.

hmmm, i did not know that.

well, if you can't support something from below, hang it from the top like a suspension bridge! Haha. It'll never happen. That would cost a billion dollars.

Now, when I think about closing in an endzone, I hope we don't do it like florida, bama, or penn st. Those endzone upperdecks look chopped up when they don't connect to the existing deck.

Georgia's bowl looks clean!

However, I'm not sure if our two decks could be connected like that. I think they were built at different angles. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this. We would have to do something creative to keep the "clean" look.

I also feel that our stadium has more of a squared off shape as opposed to Ohio State's horseshoe. Well, Georgia's for that matter. And something about Tennessee's stadium is boring to me. If we closed in our stadium, I would prefer to keep that squared, sharp feel to it. I'm thinking about Miami's Pro Player stadium or something similar.

Anyway, these are just opinions. trying to pass time before I leave work. haha

As a Civil Engineer I can say that anything can be done with the right amount of money lol...the black belt soils are crap to build anything on
