Yeah, I'm home.  I love this board.  No bickering and slamming of every post.

Quick question.  What happen to Tubs?  I mean, he could recruit at one point in his career.  He recuited one of the greatest classes ever.  So was that just luck?  Did he just sit back and think the recruits would come to him?  Was he out hussled?  Did he just recruit some questionable kids? or 'E' ... All of the above.

Welcome to the fam. We're glad to have you. This is the best AU site on the net and we have several mods and know it all's here to answer any question you have.  ;D

My opinion of Tuberville is I think he quit. I think when he first came to Auburn he had a lot of fire and a lot to prove and he went out and really husseled to bring in some decent classes. But after 2004 he got sloppy and quit recruiting and quit coaching on the field like he should have been doing. I should know, I've been to practices and watched him stand in the corner for an hour talking to Phillip Marshall when he needed to be helping with the DB's and LB's. He became a self titled CEO coach and got lazy in my opinion. I know there are plenty of Tubs supporters out there and I'm sorry if I offend anybody, but I have to call it like I see it...good...bad....or ugly. In my opinion Tuberville just lost the fire and although he DID do some great things at AU like 2004 and beating the necks 6 straight, his time at AU at least was up and he needed to be replaced. He had multiple opportunities to catch the offense up to the defense and he couldn't do it. He did it one year in ten with Petrino and that's just not good enough. The sad thing is for Tubs and his supporters is, if he would have hired Malzahn when he left Arkansas and completely turned the offense over to him and not mettled in it, he'd probably still be our coach. But like I said....you only get so many chances to fix things in any job.

We just need to thank our lucky stars that Jay Jacobs was allowed to hire this coach instead of Bobby Lowder, because he hired a tireless worker in Chizik and Chizik hired a staff full of top notch position coaches and recruiters. It's already paying huge dividends. Wish I could have bought some stock in AU football back in 2008. I think I wouldn't be far from hitting it big on Wall Street.

I totally agree with you Mayor 100%.  You couldn't have put it any better.  I for one loved Tubs to death and appreciated what he initially did for Auburn, but I think he got "stale" on the job or at least the program got stale.  I don't know if it was due to BOTs and him hashing it out with them every off-season, but the program just hit a wall.

OT, a million thanks go out to all you guys feeding us with the info!  This is one of the best boards I have ever seen and been a member of!

IMO...there are 2 big ways to draw top talent to your program: 1. Playing time 2. Championships. Early on in Tubbs tenure he sold the playing and was getting decent talent. After not coming through in 2004, things got stagnant. The team had talent and he couldn't sell playing time. We weren't the latest and greatest anymore, just an undefeated team with a bowl win. And yes, he hung his hat that 'we should have played for the title' was going to get recruits...it didn't!

2003 Jetgate was the beginning of the end.  Once they did that to him, he was a different man.  Yes, the next season we went undefeated, but that was a combination of NFL first round picks on the team, and a last hurrah to stick it to the administration.  The recruiting classes began to go downhill after that, and one coach satan arrived in tuscaloser not long afterwards.  Loss of interest and the losing recruits to bammer did Tubs in at Auburn.  He will land on his feet if he gets in the right situation somewhere, because I believe he is a good coach.
