This is my first post - just found this site and joined immediately.

The word is getting around about this site - had a friend at work tell me about it!

Anyway, just a thought here: It seems to me that the past several National Champions all had 1 thing in common - a great secondary!

I hate to say it but Saban is loading up Tuscaloserville w/ tons of 4 and 5 star DB's.

I havn't been worried about it because CGC was such a great DC and I know he knows what we need  - any thoughts?

A better front 7 can make your secondary look worlds better.  Another note, Millner is just awful.  He might be a 5 star athlete but is a 3 star corner at best.  Jarrick Williams is pretty dang good but I just can't believe Millner was recruited as heavily as he was.  But Mincy, White and Davis should all be pretty good.  I am not going to lie, I thought Thigpen would be able to pull in bigger names.

DBs is the main thing I'm worried about next year. I think we will still do great next year and I can't wait to see who we bring in next year on D. I bet we have a defensive stacked class next year better than this years offensive one.

I have trust in Gene's evaluation talent of DBs. If he likes Davis, Mincy, and White then so do I. Im sure ther is a reason he liked 3star White over 4star Knight

Chiziks evaluation is just as good as sabans...i know this has been said a lot but daren bates is a great example and i remember that someone had posted an article on asante samuel..these guys werent highly recruited at all..and another note..chris davis and ryan white are both more than likely going to end up in the secondary..if im not mistaken they both played qb in high school..and we all know..most of the time the most athletic guys on the field in high school are the qbs...add mincy, mcneil and the guys coming back and i feel good about our secondary

Yeah, well, Davis and White played QB in high school, which probably has something to do with them not being rated higher than three stars. The way they jumped all over both makes me think that Chizik, one of the best secondary coaches in America (two straight Thorpe Award winners is nothing to sneeze at), Roof, Thigpen, and/or Lolley saw some serious potential. Rashard Knight is one of those big name corners who got passed over for the two high school quarterbacks.

As for Mincy, honestly, I like him, and I think he'll be a solid player, but I really think he's more there to build depth than to be a star down the road.

And you could not be more wrong about Mincy. He will probably be starting by his Sop year when Washington leaves. He is the best corner in we have signed, and the only true corner we have signed. Look at his tape. He loves to hit.

We made huge inroads with our instate recruiting but we lagged behind when it came to DBs. Bama got the top three in DeMarcus Milliner, Nick Perry and Jarrick Williams but i think that domination is about to come to an end.

3? I didn't realize that...

And I would love nothing more than to eat crow about Mincy, and you're right that he's the only true corner (which is why I said he'll provide the immediate depth), but I expect White and Davis to be excellent.

We shall see. Regardless, we both feel good about our defensive back class. I really think Howard will go to Clemson if Lattimore comes to Auburn, but I really hope he doesn't. I think he can be a stud on the defensive side.

You're seeing Chizik recruit his type of DB.. Fast, shifty, and fast off the snap.. You're going to see CB's that stick like glue to the WR in the coming years.. Our defense is going to be fast, and I mean fast.. You think Tubs was responsible for our speedy D in 2004? Our future is bright, and I hope any doubt you have is only jitters for the good things to come!

I think you are expecting way too much out of Davis.

If you look at Davis's highlight video and Javier Arenas they are pretty much the same.. Both were very under-recruited, and honestly Davis is the shiftiest player we have coming in.. Davis will be a shut down CB, I have no doubt.. He also has the potential to be an Arenas type PR..

With bammer loading up on db's this year it really helps us out with Enrique Florence next year. I'm sure he will be close to the number 1 target for both teams. I've heard he grew up an Auburn fan so I like our chances.

Only if Howard goes elsewhere will we take another defensive back...and it'll be a safety, not a corner, if we do. We have at least four, maybe even five corners who have seen critical action, two to three (depending on Savage) who have proven themselves as starters as well, coming back next year to go along with the three guys coming in at CB.

I know he won't start, but he does have starting experience. And you're probably right about him playing safety, but I'm not ready to say the he definitely will.

I don't. Jessel Curry played some safety in high school, and Vic Beasley might well come on board, too.

Agreed, but if he plays then he still provides experienced quality depth and a senior leader.
