What's up with these sites?????

Recommended Posts

I know I am knew to the whole recruiting process but what's up with these football and recruiting sites?  Just the other day I read that Corey Lemonier stated that he really likes AU and we have always been on his list as favorites.  Then someone on this site asked about what Corey stated on the Vols website to be true whether or not he eliminated AU from his schools to choose.  Last but not least I read in auburnundercover yesterday that Lemonier is still high on AU and his mom really likes the school and the coaches (especially trooper and luper) because trooper made a visit to his home.  Maybe someone who has been doing this for a long time can explain to me if this happens all the time.  Do the writers for these schools hold notes taken from interviews and put them out when there is nothing going on to keep football alive?  What gives?  I do know these kids exhaust me!! :dunno:

Yeah, you already know the answer. Every year there are conflicting reports depending on who you ask. That's why I scour the net and follow any and everything I can and make my own opinion based on the entire picture. If you just follow one, you won't get the whole story all the time. A lot of times it's not even the site either. Sometimes a player will tell two different reporters two completely different things because he wants to tell X reporter what he wants to hear. On the other hand I've seen reporters just plain make stuff up I think. I've seen reputable, trusted recruiting reporters write articles that are just plain wrong and with a little bit of research they would have known that, but they're selling their service to their fanbase and write things with blinders on. Then, you've got another group that don't talk to recruits at all and simply write what they hear from the other sites as their own info. If you follow this stuff day in and day out....year in and year out, you had better be ready for a "roller coaster ride" as ST likes to say.

As far as Lemonier goes, we're in good shape with him. I still think he's a Tiger in the end, FWIW. WDE!

I have read those post.  I was asking if the sites do those type of things all the time when it comes to recruiting since I am new to the recruiting process.

Unfortunately this is normal because you're talking about 17 and 18 year old kids. Things can change at the blink of an eye. Keeping up with recruiting is like a roller coaster, its not for the faint of heart (cough*Golf*cough). It will get crazier before NSD and you will hear all kinds of different scenarios.

The report from VOLNATION(should be called mentally challenged every recruit wants to go to UT nation)  could have been correct that DAY. Since that day though we have had an In-home visit and those can change everything.

ok...Most people who write for school sites that are linked to rivals, Scout, and ESPN are not actually paid by them. They are more like liasons for those companies and actually probably paid by another media outlet affiliated with the schools, so each guy who is reporting for the team sites is homering it for their side. Dont expect consistency between team sites just because they are affiliated with the same national company.

I'm not going to call it homerism or even bias, it is creating drama and controversy to sell subs to the site, plain and simple.  If every site said the same thing, aka the unbiased truth, then all of them would be out of business.  Look at the three major recruiting services, Scout, ESPN and Rivals.  All three have different systems in evaluating players and ranking the classes.  At one point Auburn was about 7 or 8th on both ESPN and Rivals class rankings and 19th or 20th on Scout.

At the end of the day, they twist words and crop sentences to create drama so people will subscribe to their site.
