2010 Recruiting Class Overview

Guys, I've been lurking here for quite a while but finally decided to leave one of the other main boards and make this my new home. I really love the family feel so here goes my first post!

----------------------------

We already have commitments from the top two prospects from Arkansas, the top prospect from Louisiana, the top prospect from Mississippi and arguably the top two prospects from Alabama – with a real good shot at the top prospect from South Carolina. Looking at it position-by-position, we have the top running back, the top kickers, and some of the best receiver/athletes in the country including the top wideout from Louisiana (Reed), Alabama (Richardson) and Georgia (Goodwin). It's a solid group of linebackers as well. Our JUCO guys are some of the highest rated at their position. We still need to get another solid defensive lineman and the defensive backs are probably projects, but this is a very impressive class! Fourteen of our commits (half) have received All-America honors. We are already the #5 consensus class...another 5-star or a couple 4-stars and we will be challenging for the top overall class. With another 5 openings remaining (5 are early enrollees), I think it is very likely we have several more quality commits. Personally, I think our only competition for #1 is Florida and maybe Texas. What do you guys think?

I like the balance of offense to defense.  This counters the bammer idea that we're just recruiting offense and our defense will go to the crapper.

Yes,  Also when you add the players likely to still commit Auburn may end up with two more DTs and a DE

Welcome Duff. Enjoyed the post. As for the #1 class. I think Florida has it locked down. Technically not yet, but will be almost impossible to beat. So, Auburn, Texas, Alabama and possibly USC will challenge for #2. Honestly, I wanted to have a top 5 class. I think we will. More importantly, I wanted several 'needs' addressed which this Staff has done. They are filling needs and getting top notch talent. As for DB projects, I think C. Davis is very under-rated. War Eagle!

That's a nice rundown. I honestly don't know...I mean, every bit of logic tells me that Auburn will not end up at number 1, but as I mentioned in a ranking prediction thread I started a few days ago, rivals is in the business of selling subscriptions, and spurring the Auburn-Bama rivalry on in recruiting by landing AU at number 1 after two years of Bama dominance would only serve to widen their subscription base. :dunno: I'm not overly concerned with it, and I still don't think it'll happen, but there's always that one little thought in the back of my mind...

WOW!!!! I was excited about this class just looking at it as a whole, but when you lay it out like that with all the accolades, it really is impressive!  You have to love this staff, but more than anything, I am glad the rest of the country gets to see that there really is something special about Auburn.

:believe:

Just curious....where did you get those 40 times for the players? I want to believe them, but just looking at rivals and scout has the times of the few i compared slightly higher than these....just wondering!! Thanks and WDE!!! Great post!!!

Yeah, I loved the balance too which is why I wanted to include it. Also, you never know where kids will end up. For instance, I counted DJ as a RB (as that is where we are recruiting him for) but he could end up switching to DB. Same for several other guys. I trust this staff to fill the needs we have. We just need to finish strong and lock down the guys we already have in the fold!

Thanks for the welcome guys...look forward to becoming part of the fam. It's a slight variation from the handle used on ITAT but same guy. Look forward to posting here instead going forward! Now to respond....

The height, weight, 40-times, etc all came directly from the different recruiting agencies: ESPN, Scout, Rivals, Max Emfinger, MaxPreps (CBS), Takkle (Sports Illustrated), PrepStar, Offense-Defense, etc. You'd have to use google to figure out which player's info came from which website because I don't remember.

Also, just want to point out that I haven't checked ALL player's rankings today. I did check many but some of the older recruits, I last looked at when they committed. I had the URLs in my notes for every source in parenthesis but they didn't show up in the post (only the ones I added manually). If there is a link you want, I will gladly post. It was just gonna take too long to add links for every single source.

Good job Duff. Nice breakdown. I might use some of this for the "Recruiting Trail" wrap up. WDE!

Feel free to use Mayor. That's why I posted - so nobody else would have to do the legwork. I've been keeping this file going since the summer (some may notice from my past posts on the other board).

Likewise, I plan to post my game stat breakdowns here next season instead of over there. There is just too much junk on those boards. I hope with the growing popularity of this site that the quality remains the same!

Were you a former member of AL.com too haha?

No, ITAT mostly. I've avoided al.com like the plague for years. Too much useless arguing in the comments! I simply read the articles there but don't wander further down the page.

It's like Finebaum - my life is much better once I stopped paying it any attention. FWIW I do occasionally download his podcasts and fast-forward to the interviews = Paul and his callers are useless (no offense to anyone if they are crazy/bored enough to actually call into his show).
