Dang man. It seems like at least one goes down around this time very year. Last year's casualty was Nosa.......Hopefully, Benton will be our only hiccup. Get well soon D-LO!!!

On a positive note, WR is arguably our deepest position right now. WDE

Trooper Taylor said Benton suffered a jammed finger catching a football, and he doesn't know how long he'll be out.

Thanks for shedding some light on that.

He must have jammed it really bad because it's a cast in a sling up to his forearm.  It covers his ring and pinkie finger on his right arm.  Honestly, sounds like a broken finger or two to me.

If it really is just a jammed finger then that's pretty fortunate. Could be alot worse.....hopefully he'll be outta the sling in no time.

I've never seen a jammed finger result in a cast and sling.

Me either, but we've never(at least I never) have been a prized D-1 football player with golden digits.

I jammed a finger every other day in high school basketball.  Never a cast needed.  Something tore or broke.  Hopefully it is a heal-fast!  Hang tough D!

I jammed my bird finger on both hands during football practice in high school on consecutive plays. Both of my fingers swelled up pretty big, and I had deep dark bruises on both hands. It can happen, especially when someone with the arm strength of Cam Newton is firing passes at you...

I just read TT quotes, and he said nearly word for word what I just said. lol  That's weird. I guess great minds think a like.

Nothing big a finger injury won't keep him out long. Just trying to make sure he doesnt hurt it worse. Some people may get jammed fingers, but have you gotten it jammed by Cam Newton's throws? Cant be fun.

Man i broke a finger and played in a game 4 days afterward. surely a jammed finger wont make him miss anymore than 1 practice.

The problem with a jammed finger that is swollen, and bleeding underneath the skin (bruising) is that it can't heal quickly if you are firing cam newton bullets at if for a couple hours a day. It's better to let the blood vessels in the fingers heal for a few days. My finger was swollen about 3 times it's normal size when it happened to me.

Back in my HS days, I jammed a finger just about every time I stepped onto the basketball court.  I never put a cast/sling on it.  Jammed fingers can be toughed out.  You just have to get it loose.

Now I broke my thumb two or three times.  The first time I was in a cast for six weeks.  Second and third times I toughed it out and and wore a cheap sling.

Probably just a measure taken to keep from aggravating it further...expedite his healing...

Still a long time before the first game...staff already knows what he can do...

Been working out all spring and summer with the QB's...so timing issue shouldn't be a biggie assuming he recovers reasonably quickly...

Willing to bet that if this was a game week, instead of the beginning of practice, that he'd be on the field...maybe have the sling on afterwards...

We should expect injuries if you really practice like you play. It just seems we have more than others but it could be because we're looking more closely at our guys.
