Chizik not a voter in the Coaches Poll

Coach Chizik is not a voter in the poll. He did apply to be one of the voting coaches but wasn't chosen. Dan Mullen, Jimbo Fisher, Paul Rhoads, Tommy Tubbs are voters. Anybody have any insight into how coaches are chosen? I just found the list of who's in and who's not interesting. I found the info on Al.com and i'm on my phone so I can't post a link.

I have a better one, how bout none of them vote! The coaches poll is the most ridiculous, irrelevant poll I've ever heard of for any sport :P

I think they all should get a vote. But since they don't I was just wondering how they select the coaches that do vote. I do think the coaches poll is usually the more correct one. It doesn't really mirror the media polls all that much. There is some difference when it comes to the coaches poll. One downside of the CP though is that most coaches are coaching/traveling on Saturday so they don't get to see a lot of games. And I do question if the HC is really the one voting and not an assistant.

That's ok.  When we win the NC, Coach won't have to answer the inevitable question: "Did you vote for yourself?"

hmm. interesting.  i wonder if they divide it up to where each conference only has a certain # of voters. I'd imagine, as far as stature as a head coach, chizik would be lower on the list with the current SEC coaches in place.  The flip side to that is how did Mullen get in and not Chizik?  *shrug*

I read that there are 61 voters for the coaches poll.  Would make since if they did allow an even number of voters among the conferences.  Would be awesome too if they also rotated the voters in the conference.

I agree that no coach should get a vote.  A classic idea would be to have an unbiased group (as unbiased as possible anyways) vote and take all the other polls then have an 8 team playoff at the end of season.

I have heard that most of the voting coaches have a GA or someone in the athletic department do the voting for them, or suggest to them who to vote for.  Because the coach himself simply doesn't have time to look at these polls in detail.  I remember Spurrier saying he didn't know who he voted for!!

The coach doesn't have time to worry about the polls, but the bigger issue to me is that they don't have time to watch any of the games! In any given week most coaches probably see 4 teams play a full game: Their team, the team they played the week before (when they watch game film), the team they are about to play that weekend, and whoever that team played the week before. Seriously, they've got way too much work to do to sit on the couch and watch 5 games every Saturday like the rest of us ;) Expecting them to have any kind of valuable input is pretty silly to me. I personally think there should be a committee of voters, employed by the NCAA, whose only job is to watch every single game and make truly educated opinions on who has played the best football. Maybe split the committee into groups, by region or conference, so that it can be guaranteed that every game was watched by multiple people and talked about amongst the people who've seen the most football.

... but then again, that makes too much sense, so it will never happen  :-X
