Preseaon rankings reflect . . .

Unfortunately sportswriters seem to take the easy way out. I've yet to see a realistic preseason poll that reflects this year's talent versus last years results. Politicized as last year's final polls were, they shouldn't be the starting point for this year unless a top team retains 90% of their starting lineup.

Alabama is the consensus number one by fiat - so it seems. Auburn still gets no respect and I'm not a proponent of being the stealthy team year after year. See 2004.

I fully believe this staff is expecting NC's and will stay in place until that happens - which will be very soon.

I can not fathom that supposed experts in this field are saying almost with one voice:

a) Sabin is the best coach in America (not just Paulie)

B) Bama is consensus No1 in the Pre

c) Bama will go undefeated (one loss)

Help me out here. Are the poll setters truly that bad or are they taking the PC way?

In the end, the first poll that means anything will be three to four weeks into the season.

It hurts to say this but I only see one game that bammer could lose, and that is Florida. And we know how the turds get up for big games so that one may be a turd win. The Iron Bowl could be the biggest game of the year nationally. I believe we will be unbeaten and bammer will be unbeaten, winner goes to Atlanta.

They're that sad. In their minds....

1. 80% is based on last year.

2. 10% is based on who you have coming back.

3. 10% is based on schedule.

There is a reason Phil Steele makes them all look stupid year in and year out....

I'm not sure I agree. Granted, they are talented, but replacing so many experienced players on defense could cause problems especially if the db's need time to get up to speed.

That's a good point Drox, their secondary has lost alot and will be a weak spot. I still think that they will catch that typical bammer luck and go unbeaten. Man I hope i'm wrong.

A little trend I've picked up on. The 2 years after weeman won the SEC at lswho his teams lost a total of 9 games. Thats 4.5 games a year. The last uat team to win the SEC went 3-8 the next season. Point is its last year's success doesn't equate to success next season.

I hope this trend continues. I just know how their luck is. It wouldn't surprise me if they went unbeaten u til they meet us and we embarrass them in their own stadium.

Weegs, being the trueblooded Auburn fan I am, I hope the mullets lose every game. However I could certainly live with your senario. As a matter of fact it would almost be more enjoyable to smash an undefeated uat team in their own house than a 3-5 loss team. Then again I sure do enjoy it when they lose.  :dunno:

I agree. I'm not saying this because I'm anti-Alabama or dont think Bama was good the last two years, but I honestly think theyve been the LUCKIEST team in the nation the past two years. Every bounce went their way, and they got every single break, it was rediculous

Thats another thing. You know that horseshoe is going to fall out of their tail sooner rather than later.

I agree SandMtn, nothing makes my weekend better than for the turds to lose and us to win, and AMM, they have had more breaks go their way than any team I have ever seen. I mean Texas handed them the crystal on a silver platter. Crap we knock LSU's starting QB out and the backup plays lights out, unreal. We have got to beat the snot out of them this season.

Some people call it luck, I call it bias officiating in the SEC. Alot of people wanted the Fla./turd rematch. Even if it was subconsious. Honest there is holding on every play to some extent some more flagrant, But no holding calls for the last 5 games of the season? :dunno:

An Alabama offensive lineman who doesn't hold, a humble Florida Gator, and Santa Claus all checked into the same hotel. As they entered the elevator, they spotted a $50 bill on the floor. Who ended up with the money and why? Answer: Santa Claus - the other two aren't real!

All I have to say is this, if we won twelve straight and then lost in the SECCG and the Sugar Bowl and then won the national championship the next year, I would expect to start the next season at number 1 if we lost all 85 players.  When you do this you are doing something right and a team that continues to win shouldn't be punished by falling down a poll due to skepticism.

This might sound strange, but I sense that the media knows that Alabama cannot sustain this, and they don't like Saban, so they are setting him up for a fall.

I know I say this too much, but 9 starters gone on D, one of the returning starters off knee surgery, the other facing suspension, team complacency from players who finally made it

Plus, you have a different dynamic when draft-worthy offensive players are trying to pad their stats as opposed to defensive players.  And most of the Tide's draftees last year were on D.

So the media is creating a great story as Bama starts to slip and Saban acts like Saban.

Plus, not all the time, but most of the time players who know they might be coming out for the NFL draft the next year don't push themselves that hard because of the fear of injury and messing up that lucrative pro contract, ala Beanie Wells. I saw him almost dive on the ground to avoid contact in his last year to limit injury. So bammer might have one of those, "What the heck is wrong with this team this year?" kind of seasons, who knows.
