BadrabbitAU 0
Anybody seen Cody Parkey mentioned in a practice rundown? I really would love it if he could step up and be our PK for kickoffs. It would be nice to see a few out the back of the endzone this year.
Rickys Rants 0
I thought I saw on another thread where Cody Parkey is the leading candidate for kickoffs this season.
BadrabbitAU 0
I thought I saw on another thread where Cody Parkey is the leading candidate for kickoffs this season. I sure hope so. I know our special teams will be better this year but it would still be nice if we didn't have to cover every single kickoff. I'd certainly take the opponent getting the 20 every time over what we had last year.

Kickoffs, I'd like to see a little more leg out of him

Otherwise when we were struggling so bad on KO return coverage, Byrum would have been out there doing it.
Lynx34 0
Byrum didn't even do most kickoffs last year. 9 out of 10 times, it was Morgan Hull. Hull has graduated so the job is up for grabs. I don't know how closely Parkey is being considered for it, but I do know that Byrum has expressed strong interest in expanding his role to include kickoffs to increase his stock as an NFL prospect. No doubt the coaches won't just give it to him if Parkey proves to have the stronger leg, though.

If he had the leg to put it in the endzone, surely the coaches would have put him in more. Hull certainly wasn't booming it.

My statement was more directed at some others posters that indicate pretty strongly that they think Byrum has done kickoffs in the past. As far as Hull, yeah; I'm not one to normally knock our players, but it bothered me that Hull was just about guaranteed to knock one out of bounds at least once a game. I think he did it 2-3 times in the Iron Bowl.
marshallcotiger 0
Wes was coming off of knee surgery last year and they didn't want to over stress his knee and risk reinjuring it. He was said to have had a very strong leg coming out of high school so I don't see why he wouldn't be handling the kickoffs unless there is another issue that I'm unaware of. au03cobrafan 0
This article didn't mention kickoffs but it did mention how strong Parkey's leg was when it came to punting. Sounds to me like he might should take kickoff duty at the least. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/08/auburn_notebook_punter_steven.html "He's hit some five-second hang-time punts for us, which is the best that we've had since I've been here, Boulware said. BadrabbitAU 0
Upodated reports have Byrum still kicking short on KOs. I still have seen nothing on Parkey. Phillip Marshall thinks we will redshirt Parkey. I think that would be a mistake if he's deeper on KOs. When was the last time we redshirted a kicker anyway? alexava 6,976
if parkey cannot take the ko duties i will be very disappointed. wes simply dont have the leg for it. there is no other way to say it, but i hope we can find a kid somewhere on campus that can take a running start and kick the ball 70+ yards. AuburnEngineer 0
Yea, on Rivals it says that Parkey has a bigger leg than Byrum. He might start as kick-off kicker but it's still undecided
StatTiger 3,188
The rule change after the 2006 of moving the ball back 5-yards on kickoffs, really flipped everyone for a loop on special teams. Last season, only 12% of the kickoffs went for a touch back. Oklahoma State led the nation with 47.9% of their KO's going for a touch back. Auburn was 75th nationally at 7.5%. alexava 6,976
most of our kicks landed around the 15 yd line last year. duvall and yost would kick it out the back of the ez. move back 5yds and we still need to get it to the goalline
FreeBird 0
I hope we can find a kid somewhere on campus that can take a running start and kick the ball 70+ yards. The AP is reporting that Happy Gilmore will be in Auburn this Friday. Stay tuned. :banghead:
