Scheduling

I was listening to a national sports show today and there were the usual callers running down the OOC schedules of SEC teams. I certainly agree that there is no reason to play the ultra cupcakes but have often wondered why we don't just pick the weaker teams from the other big leagues as our easy games. Surely Baylor is not much more dangerous than LaMo. It would reduce the ability for those from other conferences to make these statements, reduce the chance of the AP using SOOOCS as an excuse not to rank someone highly, and might prevent another 2004 type scenario.

With Auburn specifically, I'd also like to see us step up and take a top notch program from one of the other Big 4 conferences every year. Beating Clemson is never going to look as good as taking out OSU, Mich, USC, UTx or PSU.

Some of those other teams aren't willing to do home & home series (I'm looking at you Notre Lame).  Personally, I'd love to see us schedule a Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, UCLA, USC, Miami, Florida State, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, etc... once a year.  Clearly we need  a couple of cupcakes to to rest starters and whatnot, but I don't see a problem with 1 big OOC match up per season.

Most of these other conferences are cupcakes. They only have one maybe 2 good teams a year. So yea I would love nothing more than to schedule the biggest headed team out of the other conferences and blast them back to the stone age.

My point was that we could easily grab a cupcake from the Big Ten, Big 12, or Pac-12. I'm guessing the bigger issue is that every other year we'd have one less home game (since I'm assuming teams in other big conferences would require a home & home).

I would love for us to play a larger conference team at least one per year.  Clemson is a good start, there are some years  where they are reanked very high (unfortunately this isnt one).  I would like to see us play a Texas AM or FSU or GT or Miami or any other regional power conference team at least once a year.

Hate to say this (throwing up in my mouth while I am writing this) but bama is doing a great job of OOC scheduling.  Auburn needs to schedule a game on a neutral site like bama is doing with Michigan at the Dallas stadium....or the ATL early season game like they were playing in the last couple of years.

I also agree and have never understood why we don't play a team like Baylor instead of LaMo??

I'd like to see some of the Pat Dye scheduling return.  He'd take on anybody.  Go back to FSU, Tx, Neb, USC West.  Those were good times, win or not.  (Mostly not).  But it didn't kill us and did make us stronger quicker. JMO
