As an Auburn fan it was tough to watch returns and coverage last year.  By the end of the season I wasn't hoping for a big tackle or return....just hoping for a clean catch or tackle. Does AU see improvement this year?.....I sure hope so. I've gone from "run it back" to "please catch it" in a short time.

not griping..but saw this as a glaring weakness last year.

WDE yall!!!!!!!!!!!

There are actually a few videos that have been posted on the internet (just little pieces of the practices), and these videos show A LOT of different people taking punts and porking hard at it.  I believe we'll see a MAJOR improvement this year.

On a semi side note, I stil believe Trovon Reed is going to be a big part of the return game before the season is over.

A far as returns, someone has to be able to return with all of the athletes we brought in this season.

And coverage should be improved because now we can afford to put some scholarship players on the team out there.

I forgot to mention anything about the tackling situations.

Very rarely is there a large amount of starters on all of the special teams due to injury concerns and fatigue.  Last year, as everyone knows, we had a very thin team and there were quite a few walk-ons on the special teams (not saying that's always a bad thing).  The other pieces on the special teams were filled in by players that just came off the field and were exhausted.  I do believe that fatigue played a major role in some of the coverage situations... So once again I see a HUGE improvement coming this year.

Watching the posted videos of practice I would think carr or reed will be the punt returner.  But, if we are needing to make sure we catch the punt without worrying about the return then I think darvin adams does it he seems to be the best at fielding punts. but I doubt you risk him on returns if you don't have to.

This year is going to be considerably better. We will still have a long ways to go, but we are heading in the right direction.

I agree...CTT will make it happen with the return game.

One thing I'm looking forward to this season is our return game.  AU signed a lot of players who are definitely capable of returning punts and kickoffs.  As someone stated earlier I too agree Carr or Reed will be punt returners. Goodwin and Davis are both capable of returning.

The added players and depth will greatly help our coverage units and they will be markedly improved.  However, I wouldn't get you hopes up too much about our punt return unit just yet.  Seeing all of the different guys practicing the position stokes my fear that we still don't have ONE guy who has claimed the spot.  What we do have from what I have heard is a guy who can catch it every time - Darvin Adams.  I am still going to be nervous when that ball is coming down until the return guy proves reliable.

What you just said.

You have to consider that most of our special teams units were made up of walk ons and second and third string players. Like someone else said, added depth will help our ST tremendously. WDE!!!!!!!

It is still early in camp. If 2 weeks from now we still see then same thing, then I will agree with you.

And I dont see why D Adams cannot return punts. He is quick and should have no problem taking hits without fumbling.

He has said he is not comfortable running with the ball after the catch on punts.  Maybe he isn't confident in his field vision when defenders are running straight at him at full speed or something, I don't know.  All I know is that he knows it's not for him.  I'm about 100% positive that that the only reason he's practicing with them is for some leadership and to show them how it's done because he does catch it nearly every time.  It's that running afterwards part that's tough for him.

I believe it too, because yards ater the catch have never been his strong suit.  His route running, spatial awareness, and catching are his top traits, and he's a good blocker too.  Not to say he can't do it at all, but running away from guys is T-Zach's thing.

I'm not nervous at all and I'm sure the coaches are allowing players who they told they would have an opportunity to tryout for KO and PR!!!  I assume they are going to start cutting that list down closer to opening week of the season.  Don't worry, I'm confident Chizik, CTT, and Bouleware will not allow ST to be what they were last year!!

OK. I never read that. I read where he said "everything aint for everybody" but that is not what I took from that quote.

Gribble at OA NEws said today that Mogan, Carr and Mincy were returning  punts at the scrimmage yesterday.
