Since WJOX dropped the AU games this year, what bammerham station will have Rod Bramblett screaming "Touchdown Auburn" this year? I can't miss any of that MSU game flipping around for it. If anyone knows, thanks!

Man I wish Rod would yell "touchdown Auburn" more often, instead of "touchdown tigers". Maybe it's just me, but I always feel like he wants to yell it, because it's just natural to say. :wareagle:

I get the feeling he doesn't do it quite as often as a kind of tribute to Jim Fyffe, who coined the phrase in the first place. Besides, I kinda like hearing "touchdown tigers" mixed in, especially since it's not Fyffe making the call.

Agreed. I will never forget once JF passed away, waiting in anticipation to hear how the new guy was going to sound or what he'd even say. After the 1st 6 quarters of that season passed, I didn't really care, I just wanted to hear SOMETHING! It was definitely strange to hear him say"touchdown Tigers". He even stumbled for a second like he had not even thought about it prior. I like RB though. He's a great AU guy and still much better to listen to that any national guys.

You could always send him an email and ask him to say TD Auburn occasionally . If it's because of Jim Fyffe he could only doing it when the TD is the final nail in the game. EX: AU up by three against LSU with 1:30 left on the clock. RB-X breaks loose for a 58 TD run. Then as Jim Fyffe would say Touchdownnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Auuuuburn. Just a thought.  :)

Yeah you can tell there is a definite effort to not say "Touchdown Auburn". I'm not advocating Rod to break into his best Jim Fyffe, and yell out a long loud "TOUCHDOWNNNNNN AUBURRRRRRRNNN" after every score. That would bother me, and a lot of fans. I think if he was more comfortable saying TD Auburn like other announcers say Td Florida, or Td Carolina or whatever, it would make his Td Tigers sound a lot more natural....

I dunno, it just seems a weird when everyone is saying or thinking TD Auburn when we score, and you hear a split second pause (almost like a conscious "don't say it") followed by a Td Tigers... maybe it's just me :dunno:

I'm glad they are back on WAPI. That's where they were for decades and that's where they belong. That piece of Slimebaum is on the jockstrap station. I don't want them on anything that pertains to him. AM 1070 is where I listened to Buddy Rutledge and Gary Sanders for so many years.

I am glad you mentioned Gary Sanders. He was the play by play man I grew up listening to. His calls of the 2 blocked punts in the '72 bammer game are classics. I wonder how Gary is doing these days? If anyone knows, please post a reply. Thanks!

I have no idea about how Gary is doing but he was my all-time favorite announcer. I've heard Rod. I heard Jim as well as Gary and Buddy Rutledge. No one else will agree with me. Many on here are too young to remember him but Gary will always be my favorite. I remember to this day the call of the two blocked punts.

Auburn belongs on WAPI. WAPI is named after the Alabama Polytechnic Institute, an old name for Auburn (it's on an old piece of ironworks beside Samford Hall) before they moved to Birmingham. I think somebody told me they were the first radio station in Alabama, but I haven't read it anywhere.  I'm glad to be back on there.

And they had the good taste to fire Paul Finebaum.

Let's not forget Charlie Davis with the color portion of the broadcast.  Those were great days.  And Buddy Rutledge always ending his airtime with "At least that's the way it looks from where I sit". Wheelchair bound but loved what he was doing and loved AU football.  Absolutely great days.  JMO  :wareagle:

When I read WAPI I thought the same. I also go back to the Rutledge years. War Eagle!

I have no problem with him yelling Touchdown Auburn, and it would be no slight to JF.  I mean it's not like it's a catch phrase.  If JF had a catch phrase like "Hooey hooey we scored a touchdown kablooey©", then yeah, he shouldn't copy it.  Saying Touchdown Auburn is just generic.

Back in the day both Buddy Rutledge and Gary Sanders did the sports on WAPI TV (old channel 13) in Birmingham. The two jobs kind of went together back then. I remember some very interesting trivia.

1. Buddy always began his evening sports news by saying "Let's look em over."

2. Gary Sanders had a call in show every night (Monday - Friday) on WAPI radio. It was way ahead of its time. I listened to him most nights.

3. You are right, Paul Davis did the color for Buddy Rutledge and very early in Gary's time. Then Gary's color man was Gusty Yearout. Do you remember him screaming in the background while Gary calls the second blocked punt?

Does anybody else have the CD JIm Fyfe's best calls or something like that? I love it!

Its a collection of memorable calls like "Tillman, Tillman, TIllman", "He's gone! Nobody's gonna catch him"(Bo), "Oh, he caught it at the ten, he's in, Touchdownnnnn Auburnnnnn!"(Nix to Sanders), etc.

Its too bad he wasn't around for 2004, it would have made that year even sweeter and he would have been like a kid in a candy store!

Man I miss that guy!!

We still miss you Jim!!!!!

Wish we could download those to this website to share with all our members. There are alot of younger posters here that may not have ever heard or seen the great history of Auburn football!
