Successful Season?

What do you realistically consider a successful season this year? This is what I would be very happy with:

9-3

reduction in penalties

better tackling

more consistent offense in SEC games

I think our future is bright. We are going to depend on a lot of Fr this next year and with that will come some ups and downs. I think we will beat a team we are expected to lose to a team we are expected to beat.

Thoughts?

The greatest improvement usually comes in year two, so if we catch alot of breaks and stay injury free and execute well, then I think we could realistically be in Atlanta. I don't know why, but the Mississippi State game worries me for some reason.

At least 9 wins... In my eyes we have to beat LSU, Ga, and Arky for me to be pumped up

Haha if we beat those three who are we going to lose to?

14 and Ohhh  baby  !  One thing for sure and certain .......... defense better be ALOT better . I just can't see five to Georgia . They need to turn this rival thing around this year . Across the board . Chiz has to throw dirt in somebody's face this year . It would solidify ...... for awhile at least .

WEEGLE !

Expectations are improving - even on the national scale.

Phil Steele just released his amended review regarding Auburn, and he has moved them to an 11-0 with 2 toss ups! As much as I do not like the magazine prognosticators, Steele has consistently been one who researches and digs for information - hence his adjusted view of Auburn. We're one of his favorites now which is unusual.

I don't think we've caught up with the top teams in college football with regard to talented depth yet; but we have a seasoned offensive line, more depth on defense, the coaching staff from last season stayed intact, and aschedule that sets up favorably for us to make a run.  I think 10+ wins is very doable.  If the injury bugs bites us, however, this could change drastically.

We had 8 wins last year with a fluke loss (KY), two games that we could have won with quality depth (GA and UAT).  The schedule is more favorable this year.  I think 10 wins is very very managable with a good possibility of 11 wins.  I am not sure 1 more win than last season would be considered successful by most Auburn fans.

Honestly, I think the worst thing that could happen this year for Coach Chizik would be for us to win 12 games or so this year.  With our roster problems, next year is going to be rough losing our offensive line and front 7 this year.  I think it would raise the bar too high for him to chase into 2011's season.  Unfortunately I think that we are still two solid recruiting classes from being a season to season contender for the SEC, but at least I think we will be a solid contender at that point.

I would like to see us win 10 games this year and really show improvement on defense and be more consistent on offense from game to game.  While there is nothing wrong with losing to a very talents Alabama and LSU and a very offensively gifted Arkansas team, I would still love to win a couple of those three.  And I really want to start a run on UGA this year.

I get what you're saying about the bar being raised and unrealistic expectations, but I think that success breeds success.  Winning 12 games helps with recruiting, which helps us win, which helps with recruiting, and so on.......

If Chizik and Co. win 12 games in 2010, I certainly don't see them being in jeopardy of losing their jobs if 2011 is a

down year.  Most folks (and certainly Jay Jacobs does) understand that we lose a lot of experience after 2010.  I still think we will at least have a winning season and go to a bowl game in 2011.

Most folks on here might know the roster issues but most people that cheer for Auburn do not.  If they see 12 wins this year then 10 wins in 2012 and they will scream about how bad the coaches are and blah blah blah.

Good thing they're not the ones that determine which coaches get hired and fired.  (Hopefully, the BOT is no longer interfering with the Athletic Dept.)

I 100% agree with this!!!!! We have a Senior laden football team with most of our key games at home besides bama.

This is the year to get it done because next season we are rebuilding in a lot of key areas.

I don't know why, but the Mississippi State game worries me for some reason.

I have had this same feeling for a while now. Cowbells on Thursday night in week 1&1/2 just doesn't sit well with me.

Its a for sure trap game. I just dont see them stopping our running game though. Remember we put up just under 400 yards on the ground. Thas also the game where we will stop playing a watered down version of our offense and defense and pull out all the stops.

35-10 Auburn IMO.

It definitely could be a trap game like HardFightingSoldier said, I think the coaches will really have to work to get our guys to focus especially if we drub Arky State by 40 or more. Miss. State will be a good test for us early.

I think we win the Miss St game simply because they have about 2 practices to learn our offense. They have Memphis in Week one, and thats not a game you can look past.

A successful season to me would be a 9-10 win season. If we get this, it'll mean we had a more consistant offense, better tackling, some luck, as it always take.

State has Chris Relf who is 6'4" 240 and has a year playing in the SEC under his belt, Chad Bumphis is good at WR, and every starter on the offensive line and every backup on the offensive line is over 300 lbs so it will be a slugfest.  But they do have two sophomores in the secondary along with three sophomores on the D-line so they have some young guys in key positions. Their LB's are big and experienced so that might be a strong position for them this year. But we did see how we totally confused a very talented LB unit and secondary in the Iron Bowl so if we get a jump on them we should pull it out.

And they lost a couple of good RBs from last year, too.

If we can go at least 5-3 in the SEC, the offense is more consistent, the D shows at least a little improvement, and we dont get blown out in any game (no more LSU or Arky games from last year), I'd be happy.

I expect 9-3 or 10-2. Id be very happy if they meet my expectations

There are lots of ways for me to view this season as a success.  10 or more wins is a success.  8 wins with one over Alabama is a success.  8 wins without beating Alabama...well that would be a disappointing season for me.
