When will we know who gets the red shirt?

All of the freshmen are being redshirted.  The ones that take a single snap lose it.

No, not really. A player can play early and still redshirt if he is injured before either 20 or 25% of the season has been played. Strange sometimes how a player comes up with a broken pinkie or toe injury and sits the rest of the year. There will be a number of freshman that don`t redshirt this year due to depth issues.

Actually, quite a few freshmen will be big contributors this season.  I predict we will redshirt 13-15 freshmen and possibly 2-3 Sophs.

Sullen has a serious bid for the tackle position. They wouldnt redshirt someone that important. Is it possible to redshirt a JUCO guy? I doubt we need 4 tackles of this quality this year.

You can redshirt a JUCO but you seldom do. You are usually looking for immediate help with JUCO`s.

I think you'll see virtually our whole secondary class redshirted minus Mincy.

McNeal, Smith, White, and Davis will all redshirt IMO.  I at least think that will be the plan, but injuries can change that in a hurry.

Really depends on the situation. When you hear "3 years to play 2" that means they can redshirt. I think both Mosley and Gayden still have their redshirt available, same for Bonomolo. But there are situations like Eltoro Freeman who redshirted his 2nd year in Juco, thus he has 3 years to play 3.

Two words: Kodi Burns.  KB lost his redshirt his freshmen year the game he relieved Brandon Cox.  The rule used to be the 20/25%.  A medical redshirt can be granted if the player suffers an injury though.

I agree.  I think you two just missed my point.

If a freshmen doesn't play a single down the entire season, they're redshirted.  Because no one knows who will play a single down in 2010, all of our freshmen are redshirted right now.  They lose their redshirts as soon as they take a snap.

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

I can see some like Tunde Fariyke and Chad Slade redshirting. The secondary recruits may be used in special teams coverage but may also redshirt. I think a lot of the freshman play this year.
