There are plenty of talented players on our team that aren't quite in the starting lineup yet? Which players do you think will shine early in the season to earn a starting job? I say Nosa beats out Goggans for the job maybe even before the season starts. I know the battle is current, but I also think Sullen will win the job at tackle. Trovon Reed may not be a top reciever, but he will definitely be somebody to gameplan for by the time Clemson and South Car come to town.

Oh yeah forgot about Phillips. He's a goal line back if I've ever seen one. He'll have a TD or two pretty quick. Nice pick.

100% agree. Reed is too special not to utilize in some way. Do you guys remember the play where all of the lineman bnuch together and the small guy crouches behind them? The QB brings a guy in motion, fakes it to him, and slips it to the guy hiding. Malzahn ran it waith Arky against us for a TD in 06, and we ran it once against Tenn with Stallworth last year. Reed would be great for this play. Call it "Hiding in the Reeds"

Reed wont be a starter this season at any point, but he'll definately have his own wildcat packages and plays specifically for him.

He may not be called a starter this season, but the amount of touches he has will be starter like numbers. Sometimes a special player comes along and you just have to get him the ball. TR is one of those special players!!! WDE!!

I believe Trovon Reed in some fashion will be to Auburn what Dexter McCluster was to Ole Miss at some point.

with last years recruiting class and the class we are bringing in this year, i highly doubt that we will ever have to rely on one player so much

Barring injuries, I doubt starters will change.  However, I do think Sullen could be the biggest surprise starter.  My other surprise starter by week 3 would probably be LP if we happen to recover a fumbled opening kickoff and get the ball on the 5 yard line.  He would be a starter because I think he will be on the goal line offense.

Yeah he can be used in situations where we need a genuine fullback. I always liked the play where you can give to the fullback to push the pile, or fake it and pitch out to the tailback.

I think you will be surprised at the moderation the staff shows with this freshman class.  I expect 16 or more to play significantly as 2nd and 3rd stringers.  Reed appears to be standing out the most. Phillips may get some goal line carries, if he convinces Luper and Malzahn that he will get more in a short yardage dive than Fanning or Smith.  I think the older receivers...Zachary, Adams, Burns and Carr get most of the reps, and I think Blake gets more than the freshmen except perhaps Reed.  Knowing the system and knowing your routes are key, and CTT is very very demanding of the receiving corp, will no tolerance for mistakes.  All that competition will yield some great play at that position this year.

Defensive end should be about as competitive, with Nosa,  Bonomolo, Lemonier and Sanders all pressing for early playing time.  Rush end at least is a straight forward position enough that freshmen should be able to come in and get it.  I'd be shocked though if any freshman started this year.  I would have given Shon Coleman the best odds of that had he been healthy.

If I had to pick one guy to replace a penciled in starter, I'd probably say Bonomolo or John Sullen.

I have been on my "stump" about Shaun Kitchens since I saw his film.  We have so many WRs that most of us can't even name them all in one thread (see below), and this kid has been praised since the first day of practice!!  He is one heck of an athlete, with tremendous size:  I see a pass-rushing LB the likes of Karlos Dansby in this kid.  Of course, we're getting kinda deep there, too.  I don't know where we put him, but IMO, he needs to be on the field somewhere.

Not necessarily a new face, but I expect Zach Clayton to be a starter in the middle of the line this year. Also, with the frequency that coach Rock substitutes on the line, even if they are not true "starters", I would expect to see 2-3 deep at each position play on the D-Line each game this year.

Don't forget about Antonio Goodwin. 2 scrimmages, 2 praises by Coach Troop. He's got speed to burn as well. We could be seeing him just as early.

A freshman getting praise in two a days and getting significant playing time are two different things. When the season starts, barring injuries and the like, the upperclassmen will get the majority of snaps. Not knocking Goodwin, jusy looking at history.
