Fans upset during Fan Day

I'm listening to SportsCall about people who got there early and have to wait in that HOT SUN and those who got there late also had to wait in that HOT SUN and they didn't get in. This should have been a better game plan.

There's been a lot of callers talking about how poorly this was played. If I had gone, I would not be able to wait in line in that heat then I get to the door and find it's been locked their not letting anyone else inside. I never have been able to take this kind of heat at all. Didn't they know there would be a large group of fans showing up? Who was the person who thought up of this game plan? Was it JJ?

Let's see, 8500 attending - capacity for hte arena is  . . . . let them in an sit in the indoors for their turn!!!!

Warts and All -

It was stifling hot and the wait in the heat was too much for many folks - they left upset.

Need a better plan for next year.

I would have been really upset too. In fact, I might have left after waiting in the heat and then find out they locked the doors and wouldn't let any more fans in.

Look at the month of the year. It's August. It's hot. That's 8500 people with 8500 different needs. There is no way possible to make that many people happy. We can't always do what we would like to do. If we could, I would be  sitting in Maui right now instead of reading this. If you have heat limitations and many people do, it is no ones responsibility to make sure an open event is capable of accommodating you. How would you suggest people do that. Any event in history could always be better organized and hindsight is perfect. So is the single sight of only focusing on yourself like most of this thread is doing. It's just a fact of adult life, you can't do everything you would like to do.

What would they have done without you.

On top of that, if they did lock the doors and you couldn't get in, you would have had no choice but to leave. I don't see the point in criticizing what our University does. Nothing good can come from this thread

I was there.  It was hot, it was crowded, and I didn't make it in the arena.  However, I left Auburn with a smile on my face and pride in my heart because I spent the day in God's country. WAR EAGLE.

I don't understand it. We should be happy and excited about the turnout. It shows the anticipation we all have for the upcoming season and the general direction that Auburn's athletic programs are heading. Could things have gone over better? Probably. I am pretty sure these issues will help make the next Fan Day even better.

I drove by the arena around 11:30 that morning and there was already a huge line. How could they have made it any better? When that many people are so excited about this program that you have to get there over two hours early just to have a chance of getting in, that get's me excited, not angry.

For anyone who didn't get an autograph I have a consolation prize for you. This is straight off of the university bookstore website. They can help you out tremendously

How can I order autographed merchandise?

1) There is no charge for the autograph

2) Limit 1 football, 1 helmet, or 1 t-shirt per person or organization per year

3) Customers must fill out the Authorization form online at http://auburntigers.cstv.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/aub/genrel/auto_pdf/autographs-policy

4) Once the request has been approved, place your order with the AU Bookstore, and email the approval with your order number to the AU Bookstore at aubsonl@auburn.edu or fax it to (334) 844-1372. We will then send the item along with a copy of the authorization to the Athletics office.

5) The turnaround time is about 6 weeks. The Athletics Department will limit how many items they will accept during certain time frames (i.e. holidays).

that is what I'm screaming 4Ever.  Plus, I bought a trooper towel and put that baby to work at the office this afternoon.  I live in Atlanta, so there were not as many Bammers around as I would like, but hey. I enjoyed it anyway.

Guest In the Village

I think most fans were upset for having to wait outside the Auburn Arena.  Fan Day was advertised as being "in" the Auburn Arena.  Alot of people also wanted to see the Auburn Arena.  Myself, I have been to a few Auburn Fan Days and have never waited in line for an autograph.  Other fan days you could see players faces without having to wait in line, this fan day there was no access to players unless you stood in line (that is the difference that upset me a little, although I was very happy about the turnout).

Sounds to me then, that there is fan excitement out there that hasn't been in a while. Not a bad thing. I guess waiting out in the heat would suck, but its cool to hear how good the turnout was

Here is how I look at it. They could have done as they alsways had, but they wanted to open the arena to the fans and give them some cool air once they made it in and also see the facility. It is what it is in the month of August.

I think it's safe to say that will be the first and last fan day I go to. It would have been much better if they had a line for people who wanted autographs and then left enough room for people to get by who just wanted to look around and see the inside of the coliseum. Overall, the trip wasn't a bad experience, but I end up waiting in line for autographs I hadn't intended to get (which now I know is what fan day is all about). Just a waste of time. Lesson learned.
