I have not been able to find any free video on him and i've noticed he's one of the least talked about recruits on our commitment list. Has anyone seen/know what his strengths are (i.e. coverage skills, run support, speed, etc.) and if he projects at strong or free safety???

Thanks in advance, and...... :wedance:

He will be a free safety (Mike McNeil is the strong safety). I expect him to be the starter next season.

McNeil will be gone next year. He is a senior.

No sir. McNeil redshirted last season. He is a Junior this fall, and will be a senior next fall IF he returns.

Good job on posting this question. I've wondered about him as well. The coaches obviously think a lot of him. I don't think he should be lost in the shuffle of talented recruits on the board.

IIRC he had something like 6 interceptions in JUCO last year as a freshman. Supposedly he'll be highly considered for a 4*, considering he's likely only gotten better and was a 5.7 3* out of HS.

Speaking of Lanier, i've been meaning to ask this question. On Rivals Defensive Hotboard last week it said something to the effect of "if we have room for him." I've seen nothing to indicate we wouldn't take him. It said with all the other highly rated DBs on out radar there may not be a spot for him. Did anyone else see this?

I doubt we wouldn't take him unless we got wayne lyons, valdez showers, roberson, florence, and maybe the guy out of sandy creek georgia with rose and gaulden already committed

You are confu-said.  It says we'll take a "Junior College athlete who projects as a safety" in reference to Lanier, and that's it.

I think the coaches are really, really high on him.  I'm with whoever else said he'll probably start at safety.  I could DEFINITELY see that happening unless McNeil comes back.

McNeil's return should have no bearing on Lanier. McNeil is a strong safety, Lanier is a free safety. I think they will be the starting tandum in 2011. I dont like to annoint starters, I think Lanier will earn it. But I still cannot count out Drew Cole. He was a Muschamp recruit. So he has some talent. Just hurt often.

Saw this kid play in high school he is the real deal he is related to Courtney Taylor so he has the athleticism to play Safety of DB. He returned a lot kicks in high school and did a really good job he has speed, size, and cover skills ,and Lolley is in love with this kid.

I dont think there is such a huge difference in the two safety spots. and i am wondering why mcneil would not come back next year.

You are correct. In our defensive scheme, the safeties are interchangeable.  We don't have a SS and FS.  I am also wondering why McNeil wouldn't come back for his Sr. year.

There will be a decision to be made by all our Juniors when they end up playing like an All American on a national championship team.

I hear ya Big Blue.  I am hoping McNeil has a huge breakout year.  He was pretty solid in his first two years, but I am hoping he has a spectacular year with his injury behind him.
