Quotes after practice #11

Andrew Gribble had some very good quotes from the players and coaches after today's practice.

Here are the ones that stuck out to me...

Say hello to A.J. Greene (who is getting reps at right tackle)...

“I'm not too sure what the coaches are thinking right now,” Greene said. “But all I can do is go out there and give it my all every day. And whatever comes out comes out.”

Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn said he’s seen a different Greene than the one who saw action in garbage time against Mississippi State and Furman last season. Instead of the “passive, laid-back” Greene of last year, Malzahn has seen someone who has tackled the only open position on the offensive line “very aggressively.”

“He’s really flipped the switch,” Malzahn said.

On Cam...

Malzahn had some nice things to say about Cameron Newton. That's been a trend lately. "He's done some good things," he said. "He's gotten back and he's better at some things and there are some certain things that we're working on that he continues to improve on each day. But it's like any year, it's like we did with Chris last year, we're going to play to our quarterback's strengths. So you'll see us, we'll look a little bit different in some ways, but the core part of our offense will still be the same."

What are those strengths, you ask? "He can make plays when things break down," Malzahn said. "And everybody knows he's a good runner, but he's got a very strong arm. And he can get the ball in windows that a lot of people can't."

Josh Bynes on competition between the offense and defense...

"It's competitive," he said. "The offense gets after us and we get after them. We just go back and forth against one another. Our offense has stepped up tremendously. They're better than last year. If it gets any faster, I might just pass out or fake an injury."

The more I read the more I like.  :we:

Yeah I really figured he would be starting by the opener. I hope his knee isn't to serious. However, its sure is nice to hear about some of the unexpected guys stepping up and providing depth. Seriously, how many people were expecting anything out of Sullen or Greene?

Greene came to Auburn as a DE. Saw him play a couple of times at Brentwood Academy and he impressed. He was always much bigger than the opposing offensive lineman. I'm glad to see him taking advantage of the opportunity. I think we should move Brandon Moseley to H-back or something. He played all over the field as a Juco player. With that size and athleticism, id hate to see him on the bech as a backup offensive lineman. Just an opinion though, h-back is getting pretty crowded also so I don't know where exactly id move him, but I still would try to get him on the field

I see that Ryan White is moving to DB.... I think he will definitely make a contribution to the team on that side of the ball.  Having played QB has to be a big advantage for a DB.

WDE!

I knew Sullen had it in him to be a good player. i hope he gets lots of playing time. He was recruited late as he showed well in the latter part of the HS season.

Greene - I though this was an UGA thread or something for a minute.

The two deep on the O line might not look that bad after all.

When you consider the o-line depth between now and this time last year is like night and day.

Chizik said. “Obviously we want to play the best guy. You hope that as you continue to bring in players, the competition level increases everywhere.”

All Aboard the Chizic Bus!

If the knee is limiting OL Grayden, would he take a redshirt and be part of 2012 OL? Greene was a 4-star DE that that was moved to OL almost immediately. Would be a fantastic add to 2011 OL if he continues to step up. He is also reported to be musically talented-
