Joel Bonomolo...

I just got back from Gold's Gym in Auburn, and I saw Joel Bonomolo in there working out. First of all, Beast doesn't even begin to describe him.

But that brings me to my question:  Since when do scholarship football players work out outside the University facilities?

Did he look injured?

Something funny has been up with him for awhile. The coaches comments regarding Bonomolo have been vague, to say the least. His being put on the scout team was a shock.

i'm almost certain it was him.  Looked just like him, was JACKED, and had on a football-type Nike shirt with "Da Boom" written on it.  Was doing biceps when I saw him, so he didn't look injured doing those.  Not sure what might be bothering him on the field though.

And the gym is 24 hours Monday-Thursday.

To answer your question, not only does he work out there, but a large portion of the team does as well when they want extra work off campus. Also if you had recently gone in around noon on Fridays you would have seen Chizik lifting in there. I doubt he will be doing that now that the season is starting though.

I was also surprised to see Joel on the scout team.  Are they trying to let him adjust to the speed of the game?  Is he having issues learning the defense (like the Bull last season)?

Just because a guy is a fine physical specimen doesn't mean he's a great football player (and vice versa).  I'm not sure why Bonomolo has gotten all the hype on this board.  Sure, he's huge, but he just got to Auburn a few weeks ago and it'll take him some time to get the defensive system down.

I dont think him being on the scout team should be a shock.

YES he is built like a tank, however he arrived late and hasn't had much practice time.

Come 2011 I see him starting at DE when Carter graduates.

Give him a year on the scout team and he should become a world beater.

Go watch a you tube on him and you'll see exactly where the hype came from. The hype here wasn't about him being a physical specimen but the plays that were seen on tape.

DING DING DING, we have a winner.  I don't know where these reports of him being "banged up" ever came from.  He got here late, that's it.
