I told you guys about the injuries

I brought this up last week and was shot down like the Red Baron. I'm not blaming any of the coaches for the injuries, it is just disappointing. Phillips is out. It looks like Reed is out. Eltoro may be out, certainly not healthy. Nothing wrong with Bonomolo except the coaches think he is not good enough. Our tight end, Lutz, is nursing a bad shoulder. None of this will affect this weeks game, but we are hurting for Miss St. I have felt all along that the state game is a set up for us. Short week. Their field. They are marking this game as their number one goal..Beat Auburn! Now, we throw in a bunch of injuries that occured at the worst possible time. It bothers me a lot. The coaches practiced Phillips a LOT, because we need him for short yardage. We won't have him for a few more weeks. He may not be effective this season if the ankle is as bad as it seems.  Reed will be back, but you don't want to break him in against Ms. St.  They are a very physical team. He probably will not be full speed until South Carolina. We need Reed also. He provides a real game breaker for us. We need to squeak by Mss St and Clemson, and then get some guys healthy for the rest of the season.

So you're saying that we're hurting because three players are injured that aren't even starters?

I'm not shooting you down, but LP and TR didn't contribute to the offense last year and it was one of our best offensive seasons in the last 30 years. Eltoro contributed sparely and when he did he wasn't very effective.

Lutzenkirchen has shoulder discomfort, but nothing that will stop him from starting and playing just as well as he has been. I wouldn't even say he's nursing it.

I'm a pessimist but you're being a bit extreme. I would understand if these were guys we're relying on, but the truth is if neither three see the field this year then we're not going to miss a beat.

Man you are getting bent out of shape for nothing...

1.  We Do not NEED Phillips for short yardage.  It would be nice to have him however we have a guy named fannin for short yardage and eric smith.

2.  Bonomolo isn't as good as our other DE's hence why he is playing scout team (how does that hurt us?)

3.  I have not heard of Reed or Lutz or Eltoro being too "banged" up not to play to the best of their abilities.

(Reed was a bruise on his knee - Not to mention we don't NEED him but he would be nice to have this week)

In conclusion your freaking out about little to nothing.   Now if Cam or fannin or some other key players get hurt then let me know until them....chill

P.S.- Miss State will be easier than you think....Starkvegas cannot sustain a good home crowd to beat us

Calm down, before you chalk up MSU as a loss. The 3 players you mentioned are not even starters. Yes, we would like to have them and need the depth, but injurys happen and they get better. Just ask Zac. The turds just lost their Heisman and the are so delusional that they think they will be better off without him. Three of our backups get banged up a little and the sky is falling?  I think we are lucky to come out of camp as healthy as we are.

I'll shoot ya down some more  :) You do realize Miss. State will be coming off of a short week too? I'd like AU's chances against Miss. St. no matter what the circumstances. Unless you've been at practice (which me and you haven't) then you don't really know the extent of the injuries outside of what the coaching staff said. They said LP is out and thats it. LP and TR have never even played a game in college.

No worries here. We'll be perfectly fine.

I really don't understand the cry for help about injuries. Welcome to FOOTBALL, it happens and you deal with it. I don't think its that Bonomolo is not good, but he got a very late start as opposed to everyone else and coaches want him to get used to the speed by playing scout team against a high powered and fast offense. Reed had a bruised knee happens a lot in football and not earth shattering. Phillips will be nice to have, is definitely not a absolute need. I am positive with Fannins size he can bowl through for short yards when needed. Have you really taken time to look at all the offensive weapons available this year? I mean really you mentioned all newcomers anyway that yes will contribute early, but they will only add icing on top of the cake. I keep hearing about MSU and we better be careful they are well coached. Absolutely we don't take them lightly, but news flash. AU is very well coached team and with more talent. War Eagle

We're also much better off this year when compared to the last few years with respect to the severity of the injuries. The past couple of years we would have lost 3 or 4 starters FOR THE SEASON by now. Considering that this year we scrimmaged a ton more than last year since the coaches weren't afraid of losing people, I'm extremely happy with where we are on the injury front. Not that my opinion is important, but I'm pretty sure we are doing better than we have in a long time.

go look at some of the other injury reports around the nation.  hell the returning heisman winner just had to have surgery.  and this is what you get bent out of shape about?  we had more injuries than this preseason on my high school basketball team

Miss st isn't unscathed either relf has a finger injury on his throwing hand no matter what mullen says and i'm sure a few other guys for them are banged up or will be by next week.  That is the nature of football everybody gets dinged at a certain point and you work through it and hope it is not serious.

Show me a totally healthy team for the kick off of the 1st game and I'll show you a team that will probably come away with probably a loss and probably more hurt players than the team that beat them.  If you play in the SEC and want to win, you have to practice hard and hope for the best.  ASU will be an interesting game in that they have played some big schools rather close. Do I think we might lose? Not a chance, but it will be a fun game non-the -less with a win for us let's say  48-17.  MSU....... 33-14.......Clemson 35-20......South Carolina ...31-17.... gotta stop here and call it a night!

What is with this notion that if you are on the scout team, you must not be as good as advertised???? I hate to be the voice of reason, but...... somebody has to do it. Take away about 66 players on both sides of the ball (3 deep at each position) from 85 scholly players, and you have about 19 left over. Minus the kickers and punters (3 to 5 players), that's 14 scholarship players plus how ever many walk-ons... let's just say 10. So you have 22 to 24 players to run the scout team O and the scout team D, or maybe less depending on injuries..

This isn't like high school, where you have 130 guys on the team, and the guys who can't tie their cleats end up as tackling dummies for the varsity defense.

Joel came in late, because the coaches suggested he take a break from school. That means he came in playing catch up to the rest of the guys who had all summer to prepare. That means he doesn't know the defense as well as the other guys, which means he is behind all of the other guys.. He got nicked up which also did not help, but........... THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THERE IS SOME GRAND CONSPIRACY TO MAKE UP AN INJURY, AND PUT HIM ON THE SCOUT TEAM, BECAUSE HE IS IN THE DOG HOUSE OR HE SUCKS, OR WHAT EVER.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I don't see these players being injured as anything to worry about. Last year it seemed everyone who got hurt was out for the year, or at least a few games. Seems to me we are in much better shape heading into the opener than we were last year. Just hope it stays that way.

This isn't the 75 lb rec league, you have got 170-330 lb guys banging against each other everyday so some will get some bruises. You practice how you play. No worries.

Holy mackerel, I think that you worry too much.  I doubt that even 1% of the posters on this board had ever heard of LP before signing day in February and now we can't score in short-yardage without him?  If we lose to Miss State or Clemson (and we won't), it won't be because we couldn't score... it will be because we couldn't stop THEM from scoring.

This is football. If you practice, then some will get banged up. If you play games, then some will get banged up. Two true freshman and a role player (lutz) is nothing compared to others. Just look around the country, and try not to let the sky hit you on the way down. Geez

First it is only 3 players. 2nd Reen will be ok we have plenty of talent at that position, 3rd Ladarius will eventually become a great short yardage back for us but we have enough top quality runners (Smith, Fannin, Dyer, and CAM) who can get us short yardage when needed that he will be missed but not a huge loss at this time. The one player that could have some impact is Freeman but with Bates starting and some of the young guys backing us up we should be fine.

Your fear about it being a short week and MS wanting it bad are well founded. That is always an issue with an SEC opponent. I just thnk our players have a bigger chip on their shoulder and want to prove that we are for real this year.

I predict a tough game against MS but in the end we will wear them down with the GUS BUS offense and our D will be improved enough that it will not be a total shootout.  The other side of this is if I am right is that some young players will get blooded in a tough SEC matchup and that will bode well for the future improvement of this team as the year progresses.
