Possible Future Opponent

It was announced today that South Alabama will play LSU in 2016 at Tiger Stadium.  The amount USA will receive was not disclosed.  What do you think the possibility that Auburn would ever play South?  I know there is nothing for AU to gain and everything for USA to gain, but seeing another game b/w in state schools would be nice.

Won't ever happen for the reason you said.

I understand the reasoning but I don't like it. It would be cool to play USA or even UAB occasionally instead of some of the usual non-conference patsies. I think it would put AU in a favorable light with fans and with other residents of Alabama by keeping some $$ in-state for once.

It is the same reason why we don't play Troy. They want us to go to their stadium the next year to play them. No cha-ching involved in that what so ever.

I do not buy any of the excuses I have heard through the years for reasons not to play these teams.  1- what happens if you lose?  Are you scared of instate schools?  What happens if we lose to Arkansas State, that is just as bad.  2- Recruiting -  Face it, the other instate schools do not and will not recruit the same athletes that an SEC school recruits.  Not now and not in 10 years.  3 - We have nothing to win from playing them?  You don't think we have a better chance of selling out a game against Troy vs Arkansas State? Not to mention the good press you get from this instate.  LSU has done it for years, I don't see how it has adversly effected them.  I just don't get it.

Also the home and home thing.  Ok, we will go to your stadium but no big pay out to play and we get cut of your tickets.  I think it is a good thing to give a team early road experience early in the season.  Should the first time we play on the road always be an SEC game?

I went to South and enjoyed my time there, that being said, I would not want to see the Tigers playing in Ladd-People Stadium accept in Senior Bowl jerseys.

We aren`t going to Troy or anywhere that has a 30,000 seat stadium for a cut of ticket sales. Not happening. Just saying.

Playing the smaller instate schools seems like a better option than playing the smaller out of state schools. Seems like it would keep the money in state. More kids in Alabama would get scholarships and things of that nature.

I think we need to be playing bottom tier BCS schools instead of 3 popsicles. Lets play Arizona St, Indiana, and Duke one year, how about that?

These schools will insist on a home and home.  But in general I like the idea...

Those schools aren`t in a position to insist on a home and home. They don`t have the tickets or the money to offer. At best maybe a 5-1 ratio home and home with us going to Troy or UAB in 2025 or so. Gives them a chance to upgrade or us a chance to get out. Auburn isn`t giving up home games unless it is at least a lower to mid tier or better BCS school.

Folks say keep the money in state.  Not true when you look at the big picture.  Even though we pay out to Arkansas when we play Ark st., When UAB plays UT, Alabama gets some TN money.  The state breaks even either way.
