What's with all of the negativity here?

Just wondering what is up with some of you guys? What's with all of this "I'm ashamed to call you an Auburn fan" crap I'm seeing posted here after just 1 game? I'm all for differing opinions, but some of you guys need to get a grip... After just 1 game, it appears that a lot of you guys are ready to jump ship on anything that involves our D. It was a basic, vanilla, base defense, for a meaningless game. If you were expecting the second coming of the Steel Curtain Defense, then I'm sorry you were disappointed.

Just because someone doesn't see things the same way you do, does not make them any less of an Auburn fan. If you guys are gonna be like this after every win then I'm gonna find a new spot to enjoy a victory......................

A lot of the behavior displayed on here tonight was embarrassing.  I don't care if you want to call yourselves realist or not.  The fact is that you all showed absolutely no respect nor support for our football team.  In the future, if you all want to bash players and coaches feel free to do so, but do it somewhere else.  That behavior will not be tolerated at Auburneagle.  There is a right way and a wrong way to express criticisms.

Not speaking to the negativity but I did not see a base defense esp. in the 2nd half.  I saw Auburn blitzing often on 3rd down and passing downs.  When we blitzed we played press coverage and did better.

A little advice to all- I have been an Auburn fan for a while, my Dad started taking me to games in the 1970's ( we didn't win much) I found out if you go in with the mindset that "IT"S A GAME" you enjoy the day much more.

Do I enjoy winning - HECK YES! But I am not going to bash a bunch of kids if we don't. I remember my first game in 78 we lost to Georgia Tech and I was upset, my Dad ( a hardnosed military man) said "there's a billion chinese that could give a rat's butt if Auburn won today or not, did you enjoy the fall day?, did you enjoy our time together? (we didn't get much of that) if the answer is yes then the outcome of the GAME is irrelevant."

If your an Auburn fan you learn early you got to work hard for what you get and if don't like it move on. I've had it with a bunch of our fans, it' s what is wrong with our country - I want better, maybe you don't deserve better, maybe you haven't worked for it hard enough.

Our team did well- I saw alot of young faces that will be ready for SEC play because they played tonight. Sorry, for the rant, I just wished people were this passionate about our Country, I think this must have been the Rome was - people worried about games as thier country fell in ruins around them.

We need to call Cook's pest control...we obviously have a mullet infestation...

I see it as the exact oposite. We give them such a hard time for being "delusional" and in a "constant state of denial". If our Family is happy to have had to score 4 t.d.'s to beat an Ark. St. and given up 200 passing yards in the first half, then I must have forgotten what Auburn football was built on. My days go back to the Shug era. You can look at every great team Shug had, Dye's great teams, and Coach Tub's great teams and there is one variable, the O. The D was a constant for every one of them. I can remember not long ago that great O's had a great day if they got 275 yards against us. I think it is beyond great that our O can put up 30,40 or even 50 points a game. I find it beyond frustrating our O has to put up 30,40, and even 50 points to win games. I am not saying our D can't be fixed. I am saying it has to be fixed if our Coaches and players want to achieve their goal of being "great". I think any Auburn Family member has the right to be discouraged when it comes to the D side of the ball. If you don't want to be discouraged, then that is your right also.

Hell yeah.... great post.  I agree 100% that as a Auburn fan, I expect great D's.

The defense will be fine.  Watch.  Just remember that there are players, player's family, recruits, recruit's family who read these boards on AE.  Think before you post.

I understand all of that around and agree with you 100%, but I really haven't seen anybody singling out any players. If people are doing that then they couldn't be more wrong. It is the unit as a whole. I don't think anybody thinks it can't be fixed either. I just think with all we have read and heard, that we expected more is all. I truly think we have a better D than we showed last night, but like I said, I totally understand a lot of peoples frustration.

No players are being singled out.  But, if you are a recruit and half the fan base is in an uproar about the coaching staff after one half of the first game would you consider that in making a choice?

Umm, if I were  D player, no. I think any solid HS player on the D side of the ball would see they have a shot at early playing time. Truthfully, I would be more concerned about going some place, if I was a high profile recruit, that was not concerned about being mediocre. Speaking of which, there were quite a few recruits at the game, have you heard anything about how their trip was?

ok guys, 1st game of the season.  emotions were running very high.  THAT is why people come to Auburn; because the love runs so deep.  Some people, myself included; jumped to conclusions in the first half.  Chaslk it up to growing pains.  The most promising thing that happened last night was that the d went from awful to awesome by the end of the game.  If we can take that momentum into our next game, look for msu to score less than asu, clemson to score less than msu, and so on.  I was on the edge of the cliff in the first half, but roof slowly walked me back and left me pleased by the end of the game.  I personally apologize for myself and everyone else who did the same thing.  Ted Roof has a great track record and deserves his chance to tinker with things to get it all clicking, as in shutting them down for the last 25 minutes of the game

It is obvious to the recruits that our coaches and players are not mediocre.  The majority of the fans are not mediocre.  They are Family.  The recruits at the game can see that.  But when a whole thread is nothing but so called fans calling for coaches to be fired after the first half of the first game, that does not look like family.

No, I have not heard anything specific about any of our visitors.  I am sure ST, DJ, Jonesy, Mayor and others will have plenty of info later.

No, no. I agree that people shouldn't be calling for firings 100%. That is not cool at all. Roof was not only handcuffed last year, but he was shackled also.

Why can't you MODS just delete posts about firings and such?

Been around Auburn since 1956. Regardless of what we drink, smoke, or inhale our D and special teams will need to get better to win championships. I'll admit, I was overjoyed with Cam and the O. I was hoping for a D that could shut down and dominate Arky St. A problem with expectations, I know but just the same a stout D is a must.

I am the one that posted the comment, "I am ashamed to consider you an Auburn fan." I meant it! The person it was directed to deserved worse.

There is a right way and a wrong way to post disappointment in the D, coaches , players, etc......

Comments like fumbling Fannin, Roof has to go are totally inappropriate.

Anyone who bashes Fannin for one fumble vs 2 touchdowns and 60yrds recieving, is foolish.

Same people that refer to Fannin as fumbling Fannin are the same people that will boo Cam Newton when he doesent rush for a 100 yrds.

Look at the big picture!!!!!

We can, but tell me this, why should we have to?  Why can't members handle themselves with class?

Have you ever seen a site, anywhere, that everybody was on the same page? That's kind of why I asked. People disagree on a daily basis to many times to count on here. If somebody posts something that isn't liked, why can't it be deleted? That's why I asked. This was my first game day on here, and it appears to me unless you are a "sunshine pumper" then people have a problem with you.

What people have a problem with is the manner in which frustration and crticism is expressed.  There is no problem in differing opinions, it is necessary to form a complete picture. Although we have the ability to delete post, we try not to, we do not support that type of censorship.  We do value others and respect their opinions, sometimes we don't see eye to eye, but we do it in such a way as not to belittle or embarrass.

Is there a difference between bashing and being critical?  (Rhetorical question)

I've seen a lot of critics on here, and not too many bashers.  I think this thread is being too sensitive.

People saying that Mario fumbles too much and the defense isn't what we had in 2000 aren't bashing.  They're critical statements that also happen to be true.

If this thread is directed towards something else, my apologies for posting this.  But if this thread is directed to the red text above, y'all are being too sensitive.

That's my opinion...

I am just critical when it comes to sports, and will call out a 'weakness" if I see one. I grew up playing sports and was always taught to work on your strengths, and work even harder on your weaknesses. I can understand posting in a civil manner, but I have seen a few people who if anything was posted negative they would jump down somebodies throat and be very rude IMO. I am also a person that thinks people are entitled to their own opinions, but if it goes to far it needs to be deleted. You MODS do a great job and I wouldn't want to do it, but if it is so offensive, such as "firing" a coach or being ruthless towards a player, then it should be deleted IMO.

I agree with that statement, however I'm not going to call him fumbling fannin or call for CTR's firing.  Crtical comments are one thing, inflammatory statements are another.

I thought the special teams (with the exception of the one KO return allowed) showed a great improvement over last year. As far as the "D" ... I was encouraged that at least there were adjustments made at halftime and the "D" performed much better in the 2nd half. I feel it is way too early to pass judgement ..... lets see what adjustments are made before Thurs and how they perform against MSU. I really don't think the sky is falling yet ......
