Let's start a Ruckus

There's been a lotta of discussion on our RB's as of late.  Will you be kind enough to listen to what I've seen thusfar and what I believe to be an alternative?  Well I'm going to tell you anyhow or there would be no point in posting.

Fannin...great athlete.  But he does not excell in being a true RB.  That's not his God's gift.

His gift is playing all positions quite well, but mostly H-Back.  This guy can take a pass for a 5 yd gain and score at any time. This is his gift.  Omac can take a mis-direction or a latteral from an option, hit the seams, and be gone in the blink of an eye.  But still, not a true RB.  Dyer IS a true and complete RB and will have the beginning of his future come to light very soon, probably against Clemson.  LP is yet to  play, so we don't know about his abilities, heart, and desire to excell.  Looks to me we need another RB since Aycock has bit the dust.

I love to see an offensive player attack the defense as if they are the one playing defense.  I've watched this guy on kickoffs or punts (really don't remember) and he is one of the most tenacious players I've ever seen.  Just doesn't give up.  Give him the ball and he'll attack the defense...probably looking at, at least 4-6yd gains and maybe up to 8-10 yds or more per carry.  He will not quit, will not go down at the touch of a hand, and will give you everything he has...every play!  This young man has the attitude we need at RB.  Speed: fast enough, size: big ole boy, smarts: enough to play after1 or 2 weeks of prep.

Agree or disagree doesn't matter.  This is my opinion.  :wareagle:

There is more to an RB than running the ball.  This has been mentioned many times here.  Dyer still needs to learn some of that.  Sure he is good with ball in his hand. How good is he when he is not carrying?

If we didn't need him at DE it wouldn't be such a crazy idea

he is gonna be a great player at whatever position but not in the 2 deep at de. he has not learned to get off blocks yet. so i agree that trying him at rb would be a good idea, we are paper thin and it couldnt hurt. not saying he wont be a force at de in a year or 2 but cant remember a true freshman ever realy dominating at that spot. i posted this on another thread last night.

I think we will see a lot more McCalebb/Dyer... mixed in with Fannin here and there... Fannin could provide a spark later in the game with his size... If the shoulder can hold up.

Im still not against letting Fannin move back to H-back if it will protect him better and let Eric Smith tote the ball some.

I'd like to see Dyer and Fannin on the field at the same time with Fannin at HB. That could present some headaches for opposing defenses. LP will also if we ever get to see him.

Chizik has said Dyer has made big improvements in overall assignments and is coming along fast. I think as much as I wanted Fannin the coaches have said they will go with the player who produces and is protecting the ball. They are gaining more and more confidence in him as each week passes. I wanted Fannin because he is a senior, he has done what has been asked of him and thought he was ready to be No1. who knows maybe he is, maybe he is best suited in the role he played with Tate. We shall see soon enough. I trust the coaches to make the selection because last I heard they asked me to be the best fan I can be and was given no other duties or jobs within the football program ;D

Fannin has only 8 carries this year.......

The O-Line has been blown up on half his carries.

He has not got had a chance to get into rhythm yet. It is way too early to switch him to H-Back.

You need 3 RB's in this league.

It really upsets me that a lot of people are not willing to be patient with him.

I guess 99% of the Auburn Fan base knows more about our RB's than Coach Luper does?

This is very sad that Auburn fans are panicing and doubting his ability as a running back.

Nobody is panicking. But the bottom line is there is a reason Fannin only has 8 carries. He is a great football player because he is very versatile, and I will be the first to say i thought he was going to step into Ben Tate's shoes and it would be like he never left.... and i still hope he does, but he now has an injured shoulder that has been injured numerous times before so durability is an issue and honestly he hasnt taken advantage of the carries he HAS gotten. Luper is the RB coach and he knows what hes doing so i trust him 100%.

Not that crazy of an idea, CS is still a little small to play at DE.  Let's not give up on Fannin yet, and as others have said, Eric Smith can tote the rock some as well.  Also, I think Omac has looked better running between the tackles this season, and not trying to take everything wide.  Give him some time, once he cuts his strides down a little he may be the best one we have.  Dyer is solid and will only get better.  We are going to need him as the year goes on.

Everyone, needs to go ahead and be prepared for Cam to lead us in rushing.  This year will be a different type of running attack, until we get another work load back to go along with Dyer for the future.

Certainly not giving up on Fannin... as most of us have agreed before... we are going to need all three of them by seasons end... I just think Dyer will provide the most consistency in terms of a rhythm, Fannin seems poised to provide 8-10 carries a game and the ability to break a decent run here and there. Hes a great blocker, and a great receiver... hes going to be a play maker for us.

McCalebb is a home run threat every time he touches the ball... he should have had at least 120 yards rushing against State, but he will get better with his balance.

When its all said and done... one of the three needs to be the "Guy" and take command of most of the carries.... Dyer seems to be on the brink of a special season if he can continue to learn in a hurry.
