First time to SEC game, from SoCal

My brother, buddy and I are huge college football fans but grew up and went to school here in socal, where football is just football.  We've never been to an SEC game but we're gonna be in AL the weekend of the Auburn-LSU game and want to get a taste of the madness that is SEC football.  So where do we need to be to get the best SEC football experience at an Aub game?  Where is the biggest, wildest party at when it comes to Auburn football???  And where is the best place to get tix - is an online website our best bet?

Any help on this would be very much appreciated...

Come early, stay late, and prepare to tailgate while eating good food and watching other games of the day.  As for biggest party, that'll be IN THE STADIUM!  Auburn prides itself on being hospitable.  As for tickets, ebay, the usual online sites, or outside the stadium, just bring cash as LSU is always a slugfest and an SEC game so tickets won't be cheap.  War Eagle and enjoy your visit!

Just my opinion, but I always side with the "find tickets at the game" faction.

I've been to a nice handfull of AU games, and I'm of the belief that if you wait until right around kickoff just outside the stadium to find tickets, you will never pay much, if any, above face for any game other than Alabama.

People may disagree, but I usually end up helping buddies find tickets every single game, and that's the route we take.

Heck, there have been many times that I've sold my personal tickets to an overanxious friend that just flat out would not wait until game time for tickets.  I'll then go buy more, often in a better location, and actually profit.

In my travels I have found that if you want free beer all you have to do is strike up a convo with tailgaters.  You then tell them that you are "on your last beer" or "just finished your last beer" and are thristy thanks to all this humidity.  They will be happy to give you a fresh cold one.

Craigslist or Stubhub seem to be the best as far as I have found for tickets. You shouldnt be disappointed in your choice of games.

If you use Stubhub, go through the front page of Auburn Eagle. We make a percentage of all the sales. Thanks.

Can you wear a name tag to the next game please? Thanks... ;D

Why?  You can't just go up and talk to people?  "Catch a man a fish, he eats for a day.  Teach a man to fish and he'll never go hungry."

DannyB, pick an AU fan, pretty much any AU fan....go up to their tailgate and be totally honest, tell them what you just told us here..ask a bit about our traditions  and tell some stories yourself. Ask about the rub on the meat or whether or not the sauce is tomato based or vinegar based...before you know it...you'll have more beer to drink (or sweet tea..as you wish..don't ask for unsweet because we may think you are a spy for the North and get suspicious :tease:) and more food than you could need! Trust me on this....

Whatever you do, don't miss Tiger Walk and Toomers after the win!

Some great advice given already...

1.  Tickets generally get cheaper the closer you are to the stadium and kick-off.  However, don't violate #3 below.

2.  Don't miss Tiger Walk

3.  Don't miss the eagle flight before kick-off.

4.  Don't miss Toomer's corner after the win.

5.  Don't be bashful, and don't BS.  Your story is awesome and your "new" family will love to be a part of your experience!

6.  Get plenty of rest the night before.  That's going to be a long, mind-blowing day.  I almost envy you.

7.  Keep in mind that "War Eagle" means hello, goodbye and I love you (make sure you don't get it mixed up).

8.  Please be sure to post here afterwards and let us know about your trip.

If your going to buy your tix at the game just make sure you make the eagle flight!

I've bought tickets before the game the last two times I've been there and missed it both times! I refuse to do that again!

I've bought my USCe tickets already and WILL NOT miss the eagle flight this time!

By the way, I was at the USCw game in 03' and most of the SoCal people I talked to that day said they had never had been to a place like Auburn! Enjoy!

if you guys are not already hardcore socal fans you will leave converted to tigers and start a new phase of life not only in the fall but 365. i am sad to say ive got 2 kids 5and 2yrs so my game going is few and far between now.(not sad to have kids)  tiger walk is an awesome experience  and the eagle flight is just bonechilling so dont miss them. get parked early and meet a lot of great people. dont wear any clothes that are yellow, purple or any shade of red that could be mistaken for crimson. wear orange, blue or a neutral gray and you will have a good time.

All - thanks very much for all the great advice!  We bought our tix yesterday and are in the upper deck sideline 57, row 29, on the AU side.  We opted to sit further away but more toward the center of the stadium vs. closer but in an end zone.  Also, wanted to sit on the AU side...

Can you clarify a couple of things - what is the Tiger Walk, and is this before or after the game?  Also, what is Toomers corner?  that a bar that everyone hits up after the game is over?

Thanks again my friends, very much appreciate your informative postings!

Tigerwalk is where the team walks through the crowd on the way to the stadium.  Thousands of fans line up to see, greet and in some cases high five the players while wishing them luck.  It happens 2 hours before kick-off.

Toomers corner is a very famous intersection where after an AU victory, the trees are toilet papered by fans.  Also it is the location for Toomer's Drugstore where very tasty and well known home made Lemonade is sold...you need to try it, it's very good.  Kinda like going to the KY Derby and drinking a mint julip (except the lemonade is actually good).

Tiger Walk takes place two hours before kickoff as the players leave the Athletic complex and walk to Jordan-Hare stadium. But you probably need to get there at least 2 1/2 3 hours before so you can get relatively close to get the real experience(Not kidding). When you arrive on campus and walk around the stadium it will be on the street that goes beside the baseball field, right field side.

Toomers corner is up from the stadium and to make it easier on you, look at your tickets and go strait behind the visitor section. It is right up from that corner of the stadium and its only a block or so. Or you can just ask an Auburn fan and they will walk with you up there!

I am sure I won't see you before or after so for everyone here, Welcome and War Eagle! Hope you guys have a blast!

Gentlemen - I have but one thing to say...WAR EAGLE!!!

Thank you and all Auburn fans for the experience of a lifetime.  Even though I've spent about 24 hours of my life in the city of Auburn, AL, I will forever be an AU fan.  The traditions, fan base, atmosphere, stadium, etc etc was something I'm extremely impressed by, despite having heard about the legendary SEC for years and having very high expectations.  Even the losing LSU fans (which, admittedly, was pretty surprising) were very courteous.  We did not see the Tiger walk but we caught everything else.  I surely wish I could turn back the clock and reconsider my college choice.

Being a USC fan, I have intimate knowledge of the 2005 UT nat champ team lead by one Vince Young.  I was reminded time and time again of that team while watchin the Tigers play on Saturday.  Solid D, good running game but a beast of a QB that is an amazingly talented kid.  I realize it's a far-fetched thought but I sure hope he stays around so when I participate in my new-found annual tradition of attending an AU game, I can watch Cam's live magic show one more time.

I'll see you next year - WAR EAGLE!!!
