USC receivers are huge!!!

They do have some size. Our DB's are just going to have to step up this weekend. We are going to have to get some pressure on Garcia to disrupt his timing also. If we don't do these two things, it might be a long night for us IMO.

Well, our secondary, through 3 games, has yet to even come close to intercepting a ball. If they don't do something soon, Lattimore won't even have to run b/c they will destroy us passing the ball.

We have barely beat the last two unranked teams.  I watched a replay of this week's USC game. The D and O we supposedly "say we have" had better show up.  AU1941 - you said it.  We have had several of our DB and corners almost hit by balls passed in their direction.  I had hopes of going undefeated - I still would like that but we are going to have to play instead of being happy with squeaking by.  We keep saying "stepping up" or "doing better" which means we aren't anywhere near were we should be.  I had another fan near me this week say that maybe we needed to be scored on first to get our team up - Why are we saying that?  We need the real Auburn team to finally show up.  I'm hoping it's against this South Carolina team.

The guys at Tiger Walk looked a lot like the pictures in the program.  Which one have we been watching?

The good thing is Auburn's pass rush has been outstanding this year. If the QB isn't doing a quick screen, he is usually getting hit or running for his life. I think the Dline has been the reason for those bad and hurried throws. The DBs do need to step up, but let's give some credit here.

Georgia gave USC some trouble with their 3-4 defense... yes Jefferies had 108 yards receiving and Lattimore went off on the ground... but outside of those two, the offense was stagnant.

Heading into the late 4th quarter Marcus Lattimore: 188 yards , rest of the USC offense: 154 yards.

So Jefferies and Lattimore combined for 296 of USC's total yardage.

I think Roof and Chizik will have a good game plan, and the Auburn crowd will make things tough on Garcia all night... one big play to get our crowd going might be all we need.

You never know.

I love watching RB's light up a defense and "make" things happen.  Lattimore has been a beast, as well as Richardson & Ingram.  The SEC has some dang good RB talent.

garcia taking off and running worries me we have always struggled with running qbs. we won 3 games and are ranked but imo we are not good right now and if it dont change we will not win this week. i think it can change.

You can't intercept a football if you're not LOOKING for the football. :banghead:

Exactly what I was thinking.  The call on Washington is a perfect example ... he made a great play to break up the pass without touching the receiver, but was called because he was going full speed at the receiver without looking for the ball.  Herbie mentioned this will get a call every time.  This has been frustrating the heck out of me the whole season.  They may be playing the ball but the perception is that they aren't.  We must fix this b/c there is enough film on this to know that as a quarterback, I can throw deep and get a flag.  Starting this week, this can really be an issue.

You can't look back for the ball when you're trying to catch up to the receiver. I hate not playing bump coverage! It gives the WR a free head start from the LOS. You play your DBs 8 yards off the LOS, if they're slow. Washington and Thorpe are both very fast. They should be up on the LOS knocking those WRs when the ball is snapped. JMO

^^This is a "coaching" issue, IMO.  Our guys are fast and talented - bottom-line, they need to be coached properly.

Garcia will inevetably implode this year. Hopefully in this weeks game. Jawja did NOT have a pass rush to speak of until the fourthquarter.

I'm not sure you understand the dynamics of "bump n run" also called "press" coverage.  After the receiver gets past the "bump" or "press" they tend to be able to create separation more easily.  The reason for DBs backing off on the WRs is so that they can backpedal, and therefore keep the receiver in front of them, longer.  This opens up to the coverage "bending."  One huge improvement in the defense this year has been stopping the big play, for the most part.  There are definitely advantages to press coverage, but if you think it will make the DB less likely to get beat, you're not only wrong, it will make it much much harder for the DB to catch up.

We've been up against big receivers all season long so far. This will no different.

Really, Clemson's WRs were huge also. They are probably more athletic than South Crackalaky's, too.

Alshon Jeffrey is the most athletic receiver in the SEC. He's a physical freak. He's Julio, except he has good hands. Gurley isn't far behind Jeffrey in athleticism, just not near as polished.

USCe's WRs are better than Clemson's. The difference is Parker makes his WRs look better, while Garcia makes his look worse

I'm pretty sure I understand, as I played SS in college. It is harder for WRs to gain momentum, when you get a good jam at the LOS. What you wrote is true, if the DB doesn't get a good jam. I wasn't near as fast as Demond or Neiko, but I could give a WR a hard bump at the line. After that, they weren't going to beat me. Also it gives the Dline more time to get to the QB, as the WR doesn't have a clear path to their route.
