The only reason I can think he announced it now is the players may try to rally around him throughout the season.  It could backfire.

I think it was to calm the fans as well. The reactions on social media have been overwhelming after losses, especially after losing 14-6 to A&M.

Now, we can root for the team to do well, but we don't have to worry about him saving his job. And if they struggle, we know he won't be sticking around too much longer.

Better days are coming so maybe that will improve the mood for the team and fans.

I gave Dean a chance and made excuses based on the circumstances he inherited from the previous regime and the players he recruited during his tenure, but I do not think Dean should lead the program after this season. I hope Cohen is willing to make a change in order to capitalize on the growth in softball.

Today was bad. Every person at Jane B, including the players, knew we had no chance to come back in either game. The energy bottomed out because we have no faith that this staff will get it done.

Anybody have any lineup predictions for Missouri this weekend? With all of the cancellations, I don’t think the coaches have had time to figure out this lineup yet!

It seems that Mickey has settled with Aubrie as the catcher for Penta. They have a good rapport with each other.

Wondering if Elkins will DP when Aubrie catches, but Mariah Penta has done pretty well at the plate as well.

Good to win on the road. Florida at 5-10, it should never have been this close. Three years to get to.500. We should do better.

Coach Flo left this roster in shambles and the fanbase totally disengaged. It was a Harsin-like type of destruction.

We wen't 0-fer in the league Flo's last year. Johnnie has won 2, 5, and now 8 games. The fans are coming more and more.

I'll gladly take that 3-point win in Gainesville, which likely punched our ticket to the Big Dance.

  5. With all the rain outs, I'd like to see Mickey give some of the other pitchers some work. No use in pitching Penta against Georgia State. She ran out of gas in the SEC Tournament and Regionals last year. Looks like we are headed that way again.

Appeared to have lost composure in that last quarter.  Thought we were finally turning the corner, but this late game collapse indicates otherwise.  Surprised at the number of AU fans at the game.

Auburn took two buses of fans and students. We were well represented.

We struggled to get a timely hit against Utah, but I’ve liked our approach at the plate in Puerto Vallarta. The team has been more patient, resulting in more walks and a higher OBP%, but they’ll need to more aggressive when there are runners on base in order to score more runs.

I’d like to see this order for the Clemson game:

    1. Peralta (SS)

    2. McCrary (LF)

    3. Wohlers (3B)

    4. Lech (1B)

    5. Tresvik (RF)

    6. Elkins (C)

    7. Roberts / Clemmons / Smith (DP)

    8. Packer (CF)

    9. Roach (2B)

I like that lineup. It was nice to have a clean defensive game against Utah. First dry conditions we've had in quite some time.

  8. We flew out Tuesday. I'm assuming this means the team won't get any practice time on the field other than warm-ups today.

I'm glad they made the move due to weather in Puerto Vallarta. We've already lost 2 games due to weather, with another being a tie. Hopefully, the girls can get all 4 games in this week.

Nebraska star, Jordy Bahl (former Oklahoma pitcher), injured her ACL on this field last week. The field doesn't look as immaculate as what we are used to in the SEC. Hopefully no injuries for anyone this week...

It has been a superb stretch for the Auburn Tigers these last 4 weeks, as they have piled up not just 4 wins, but 4 DOMINANT wins!  During this span we have seen the team play much better together.  Regardless of the player rotations Bruce has been using, the guys really have been working together and have played unselfishly.  We have also witnessed the emergence of Jaylin Williams as a key piece of the team.  Williams appears to have turned the corner, he is attacking the basket on both ends to score and get rebounds, he is shooting better from everywhere, and he looks to me like he is playing with a much higher energy level when on the floor.  That effort has resulted in averaging 16.5 points per game over the last 4 games along with 4 rebounds, 3.25 assists, 1 steal, and made 14 for 18 free throw attempts for a FT shooting percentage of 78%.

Also quite surprising, Jaylin averaged only 2 fouls and 1 turnover per game during that stretch, this DESPITE Williams being 3 times more aggressive on offense and playing very tight defense with very active hands.  If he can keep this up, the sky is the limit for him.  Opposing teams will have to spend a LOT more time game planning for him if he continues to prove that this is his "normal" and not just a small hot streak that will end any minute.  Sorry to spend so much time on Williams, but I have always thought him capable of being a real talent that had the capacity to take over games for small stretches of time, but I have also called him out for what I thought was lack of belief in himself.  I was about ready to write him off after so many chances, so it's only fair that I point out how amazingly well he has played AND that he proved me right and wrong.  I was right that he has all the talent to do it, I was wrong to think it was never going to happen for him.  Watching him fly thru the air to do some amazing dunks and finish alley-oops was a ton of fun in A-State game!

There are some others that deserve mention for stepping up too, but Ill leave that for later.  This team is playing really well, and I am very optimistic on their chances of winning the SEC and making a great run in the SEC and NCAA tourney.  I DO have to comment about the AP and Coaches top 25 rankings this week (week 8).  Are you kidding me? We are still not ranked?? Has anyone been watching our games besides us?  LOL  Auburn has been crushing teams very decidedly, and I think Auburn is better than Illinois, Gonzaga, Creighton, and probably Duke, just to name a few of the ranked teams ahead of AU.  I know some of you could care less and I understand why, but these rankings are VERY important in how the season and tournament plays out.  Besides the fact it is very important in determining your seeding, these rankings also contribute to WHERE you play in the NCAA tourney.  If you want to play near home so fans can come, you have be ranked /seeded highly.  The alternative is playing the first two rounds on the other side of the United States!

Thanks to everyone who has posted and participated in this thread, it's been a lot of fun so far.

Good post, but I'm glad we aren't ranked. Auburn always seems to do so much better when flying under the radar. I definitely think we are better than Gonzaga, but Duke has a win over one of our common opponents, Baylor.

There is so much basketball left to be played, but it would be great if this team spent the opening NCAA weekend in either Charlotte or Memphis. I'm sure Charlotte would probably mean being bracketed with UNC or Duke, possibly Clemson.

  10. We beat a pretty good Washington State team yesterday, 69-62. Wazzu is 11-3 now, but they have wins over Gonzaga and Maryland. Our ladies are somewhere around 46 in the RPI now.

Mingo-Young (Bama) and Taylen Collins (Ok State) are contributing like you'd expect veteran transfers to contribute. Scott-Grayson scored 17 in the second half after 0 in the first.

I couldn't make the afternoon game but hope to be there on Jan. 4 when Tennessee comes to town.

In terms of hosting, this is huge for Auburn. One of the biggest reasons we did not receive a regional host last year was the poor strength of schedule corresponding to RPI. Just thought this information was worth sharing. Excited (and anxious) for the season. War eagle.

Yes, I'm glad the staff/schedule makers at Auburn finally got with it.  I know we have the metrics in place to host on paper if we do what we are capable of on the field.
