Did everyone notice that Kenny Gajewski's team scored 0 runs on 5 hits in 2 games in OKC?  Of course, he did get there in the first place.

Indeed.  Sounds familiar, except for the part about being in the WCWS.

Guess we will see if we can pull the two biggest names on our board now that Duke and Oklahoma State are out.

    Otherwise, I really hope it’s Pete D’Amour.

Honest question.  Why is he your favorite?

These are weird candidates. I don’t think Rocha has any interest in a HC job and Becky Clark hasn’t been on anyone else’s radar. Wonder if this person actually watches softball lol.

Rocha is my #1 choice, not that it means anything.  She has been the pitching coach on several championship teams at OU and UF.  She knows the SEC.  She has been on 2 championship staffs and learned from 2 top coaches.  BTW, UF hasn't been as dominant since she left.  We need to make her an offer she can't refuse.  Lombardi left OU after over 20 years.  Maybe Rocha will as well.

Cutting the lead to one with five minutes left, Mississippi State had the momentum but a quick timeout by Pearl proved to be just the right thing for the Tigers. A quick Cardwell dunk put Auburn back in front by three and the next trip down the court, he got a finger on a perimeter jumper by Mississippi State and leaked out for a dunk to make it a five-point advantage.

That timeout and substitutions made by CBP was MONEY.  That turned it around.  We needed to win a close game.  I love Caldwell and we will miss him tremendously next year.

I expect this weekend to tell us a lot about this year’s team and how we will perform in the SEC and postseason.

So far, not good.  A little surprised Maddie gave up so many runs, and all on homers.  2 hits for us.  :banghead:   Sounds like we are going to repeat the last 6 years.

Thanks for posting.  I think a lot of pitchers have had both feet off the ground without being sanctioned.  Some interesting changes proposed.  The thing about removing the bat knobs bothers me, though.  I guess I don't understand, but I have visions of players being cold-cocked with slung bats windmilling through the infield.

    Very good point.

The new rule would allow pitchers to lift both feet off the ground at the same time, in effect leaping towards the plate without dragging the toe of the back foot. The rule change would not allow the pitcher to replant and push off a second time. That would remain an illegal pitch under the new rule.

Thanks Slot.  So crow hopping is still illegal, but leaping is not.  To me, the main thing is to establish a standard that's evenly applied.  There was a FSU pitcher getting called in the WCWS because the foot she had on the rubber was her back foot and she was coming off the rubber as she was winding up.  I had never noticed anyone pitching like that, but I guess it's a pregression since the rule was changed some years back allowing 1 foot off the rubber prior to delivering the pitch.  Coaches are always looking for ways to bend the rules. The athletes are getting bigger and stronger and tall pitchers like Fouts and Penta are already closer to the plate when they release the pitch.   This will make tougher for batters.

The culture between softball and baseball greatly differs there, doesn't it? I played alot of baseball, and the first time I watched a college softball game and saw these antics I was shocked and a bit put off. I've since learned to accept some of it, but I'd be lying if I said some of the over the top stuff like viking team boat rowing on the dugout railing didn't still aggravate me a tad bit.

As a dad who raised 2 daughters that played the game, and then umpired girls softball for 8 years afterward, I can tell you.  Get over it.  I can't tell you how many coaches who had previously coached their sons tell me that the cheering and loud noise drove them crazy.  My reply was "Coach, get used to it or get home".  It's that way from the time they are 8 until they quit playing the game.  It's softball.

I also think it's time for a change.  The grad transfers don't bother me.  Maybe they want to go to grad school and Auburn doesn't have that program.  Who knows?  This was supposed to be his best team and as has been mentioned before, our weak preseason and the weak conference schedule showed up at the end of the season and we made very small improvement over last year.  This year we made it to the regional championship game and pushed Clemson to an IF game, instead of dropping 2 in a row like last year.  Overall, our hitting continues to struggle against good pitching and that hasn't changed in 6 years.

  7. I think Shelby looked like the old Shelby for the first time in 2 years.  Her pitches were crisp with some zip and she had them guessing until she hit the rough spot in the 6th.  She still got out of it without giving up a run.  Again, that reminded me of the old Shelby.  Hopefully, this will spring her into next season and she'll be able to again be a significant factor on this team.  We need her.

Oh, and Dean actually gave Connold two intentional passes.  I still remember his first SEC game vs. LSU.  it went extras, and LSU had their fastest player (Andrews) on second, and their best hitter up with two outs.  She played first, can't recall the name right now.  First was open, so it was a no-brainer to put her on.  But no!  Dean pitched to her, she looped a hit into left, and Andrews scored the winner.  But to give Dean some credit, he inserted Roach to run for McCrary after the latter singled in the 7th.  Roach wound up scoring the inner on a fairly close play.  Would McCrary have made it?

Will never forgive him for pitching to Baily Hemphill a few years ago.  She had a run scoring double and a homerun.  I think she had all of their RBI's in a Friday night game that bammer won in our house.  A couple of walks would have been just fine.

  9. Bottom of the 7th.  Runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out.  Ball is hit to SS.  She throws to 2nd to get the out.  2nd baseman tried to turn 2, but the throw was high to 1st.  Runner scores.  We walk it off.  2 - 1.  Not only can we not hit, but we look terrible trying to bunt.  We just can't execute on offense.  Mizzou helped us out.

What's ridiculous...the substitution rule or the fact that Auburn was caught violating it?   Couldn't figure out why CMD was arguing with the umpire - was he claiming they substituted Godwin back in?

Ridiculous that someone on the Auburn staff didn't follow up and make sure the reinsertion was recorded.  That starts with Dean.

  11. So apparently Lizenby pinch hit for Godwin in the bottom of the 5th.  Godwin was reinserted to play defense in the top of the 6th, but it wasn't reported to the umpire.  The first batter struck out, but Mizzou appealed the substitutuion violation and the out was wiped out and the batter returned with a 1-2 count.  Penta went 3-2 before she struck the batter for the second time.  Ridiculous.  No harm cause Penta struck out the side and has a season high 14 K's.  Going to the Bot 6th.

  12. Watching the game Sunday, the analyst said we were undisciplined at the plate.  Pointed out we were swinging as soon as the pitcher released the ball and not letting it get deeper.  Seems like this hasn't changed in all the years Dean has been here.  His friendship with Lenti may cost him his job.  I had high hopes, but his reputation as a pitching coach hasn't materialized here and his game decisions have been very puzzling.  I don't think Cohen will be very patient with him.
