What I see is Thorne throws ugly passes coming out of the gate. Hank overthrows Cam, making him dive for a pass that should have been a TD. Hank had no pressure and Cam was wide open. We need a QB that matches the talent of our new WRs. We don't have that.

I'd rather an overthrown than an underthrown ball that gives a DB a better chance to intercept it. I agree that we don't have a QB that matches our WR talent.

I watched NC State's spring game and yeah....why were we not able to get Grayson second time around?

To those of you that didn’t think Thorne played well, can I ask why? And I mean like a real reason. Not just “trust me bro.” He went 9-13. Two of the misses were timing routes. One of them I believe was a drop. The last one actually should’ve been pass interference. In addition to that, he threw at least 3 great passes, most notably a deep ball to Lewis. So, those of you critiquing his performance today, can you please explain. What more did you want to see that you didn’t see?

I think he played well. I'd say since we were running simple stuff, I'd hope Thorne had looked like a clear-cut #1 over the others. It's just A-Day but even with that, he didn't appear to be a clear-cut #1 as indicated from spring. However, at this point, I've come to grips that Throne is what he is.

I think Hank matched his play and has a higher upside. Seems like Hank is more of a gamer than someone who's going to look great in practice. My hope is that we can have two decent QBs that can get us to hopefully 8 wins and we use that to get better QB talent going forward.

  3. Probably too late for a portal QB. Right or wrong…(I think wrong) Hugh is going to roll with Thorne and hope he can get us to at least 8 wins to build on recruiting momentum at QB going forward. I just hope it all doesn’t fall off the rails and we lose half of the WR group in the process.

It was only A-day but I still don’t have much faith in our starter to help us win 8 or 9 games.

This is my rather uninformed opinion, so if I'm wrong people can teach me why, but I've felt we could use some upgrades on the team for a bit now. We need to go out and get the BEST players possible now

You're correct. We need to be targeting more top guards. I understand Bruce's philosophy of going after players in lower-level conferences. It's worked out great for most positions except for the guard positions. During March we need guys who can go get a bucket and have a high IQ to understand time and game situations. Imagine if we would've had a transfer like: Max Abmas (Oral Roberts), Tyler Perry (N. Texas)  Mark Sears at PG. Many of the guards we've gotten from the portal are solid backups. As a program, we should be at the point where we can aim for the top talent. Just my 2 cents though.

I just don't think that is on Bruce, but is squarely on the players on the floor.

I'm not speaking on just recently but the past and going forward. We need better players at guard. Yes, it does come down to players making plays. But I didn't see us beating UCONN, UNC or Houston if we got past UCONN. We need to up our talent and with the success we've had we can do that. It's not like we can't get the talent needed. We can and we should is my point. That is up to Bruce.

The biggest thing in my opinion will be upgrading the guard play. Jay G Tate stated on the Drain that he believes Tre Donaldson will leave but there will be turnover regardless. There was talk during the year that Auburn plays good defense. I don't think they do. Especially the guard positions. Any team that Auburn played with good guards seems to have that guard have great games. Year end and out, opposing guards have no problem scoring. At some point Bruce Pearl has to reevaluate his system and see the flaws. The caveat has always been that the Auburn guards were good scorers but smaller. They haven't been good scorers in a couple of years now.

    THIS!

Love Bruce and appreciate what he's done at AU. It's ok to be critical of a coach at times. Doesn't mean we're looking to get rid of him. I just want us to be able to maximize years where we have a team that can make a deep run in the tourney...like this years team. It wasn't a lot to ask of this team making the Sweet 16.

I feel like the team with Walker and Jabari should've gone further if we had better guards. I understand that the tourney is unpredictable but it's shown time and time again that when you rebound, play great defense and have guards that can be difference-makers you can have a deep run. I think Bruce and AU is at the point where we should be expecting to make it to the Sweet 16 more years than not.

Bruce did a great job in getting Denver, CBM and Chaney but if we paired them with a top PG like Mark Sears or Caleb Love who transferred from a major program to another major program..we would've been a top 5 team for sure.

When it comes to PG and G positions I want us to aim for top veteran talent if we're hitting the portal that can not only manage the team but get you some buckets when needed and have a high IQ when it comes to in-game situations.

That’s the negative of the team. U don’t expect many points from the guards just hope they manage game

That's why it's hard for me to be all in on Auburn basketball in March. I'll always be a UCONN fan #1. Being a fan since 88' and watching program that's won titles, I've seen the guards that have lead them to those wins. They certainly didn't soley manage the game.

Ben Gordon, Kemba Walker, Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, Khalid...list goes on and on of guards that showed up big in March.

Auburn should be getting top guards left and right.

Would you believe me if I told you our two PGs only scored 5 points against Yale the other night?

Thus a big reason we lost. I know a big focus is on CBM. But guard play wins you games in the tourney. AU and BP should know that from 2019.

I need my bigs to rebound and defend. Guards are going to win you games in the tourney.

I will be very surprised if anybody beats UConn. They are head and shoulders above everybody else, IMO.

They are but anyone is beatable in the tourney. UCONN is my team. Born and raised in Bama but I've always been a fan of UCONN and the old Big East.

The times we've lost it was due to a bad shooting night..specifically from 3 and teams that can match us scoring the ball.

If we match up with Marquette or UNC then they can certainly beat us. Marquette just knows us in and out being we're in the same conference. It's really about matchups imo.

The way Auburn played sds probably would have beat AU anyway. Ooops we’ll never know.

I think we would've beaten SDS. You stop the Leedey (sp) kid, you stop SDS. They struggle to score but always play great defense.

Their finals team last year was the best team they've had. This team isn't close to that finals team. Auburn had a great path until getting to UCONN and we choked.

I know that there’s something and it’s icky. I know that nobody wants to talk about it, and the one person who knows ain’t talking about it. So it likely isn’t my business. I think this was the way for caddy to save face. There will be some more.
it’s going to be ok. I think we come out of this stronger. We’ve got to keep pulling in the same direction.

I'm taking this as Zac will possibly be next.
