  1. This has to be the funniest thread I've ever seen on here. My lord how true can it get. The sad part is the bammer pics are so true. This just verifies in what I've known for years. I've just never seen it in pictures, priceless. Can some puter geek PLEASE tell me how I can send the pic of wee man and the bahr on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in an email. I am no longer that familiar with puter technology. A bammer friend of mine sent me the same pic but without the bahr laughing a wee man's weenie. Now that would be truly priceless to me if someone can help me out here.
  2. Thanks mccamy and fish for your input and you too, golf, for your authorative support. I'm not familiar with a couple of terms used. "the village" and "the hill" are unknown to me but I will familiarize myself with the whole campus this fall. I have a standing invitation to tailgate with a friend of mine and plan to make full use of it. He starts on Wed before the game. Now if I can only get the wifey to handle our three dogs. Does anyone know the ratio of males to females these days. I am sure its a hell of a lot better than 1957. 4:1 the wrong way!!! Ok, got to go smack some little white balls (golf). Don't want anyone getting ideas. Some pull the trigger pretty quick here. Thanks again guys. and
  3. Pops, if I am not mistaken the Forestry Plot was used for a lot more than growing trees. "Parking" comes to mind but only old geezers like us would even know what that term means. Is "hooking up" the modern version? As far as the oldest member on here goes I think AU60 has it. I believe he is 72. I am 71 so that makes you a distant 3rd. Anyway, as old as we are a few years doesn't mean much. Also can some of the younger guys on here enlighten me as to what is going on with the original dorms. Do sororities have off campus houses like the frats do? Are the old dorms co-ed now. I know things have changed dramatically since I was there. Help an old man out.
  4. golf, you called Roger's "fart brothers"???? But it was a good story, you know tooooooo many women from Miami. I didn't know we had that kind of draw from Miami. Do you think she was at the party that all the jocks are in trouble over now??
  5. So you have a head start it was called Castle Heights Military Academy. I would still be in high school if it weren't for that place. I had some very bad discipline problems back then and if it wasn't for the Marine Corps I don't know what would have become of me. And thats no BS. If you have the opportunity to go through Lebanon check it out. All the buildings of the school look like castles. I think they are office buildings now. Also,I have a very close friend and big time golf buddy here in Dawsonville that went to Father Ryans in Nashville. A nice Irish Catholic dude like me. He played football at Tennessee A real piece of work.
  6. Pops, just out of curiosity, how long have you lived in Nashville? I was such a sweet child my mother sent me to this military academy/penitentiary in Lebanon for my high school ed. The school doesn't exist anymore but the buildings are still there. Just wondered if you are familiar with it.
  7. How bout I made a big mistake career wise and a lot of bad decisions. Good lord, Im glad I'm not thin skinned
  8. Wow, some things never change. I am looking forward to getting back to the campus this season and see whats up for myself. I did go to the A-Day game but didn't have a lot of time to look around. Golf, there were a few in my time that didn't live in a dorm and one I dated father was the chief pilot at Delta. Boy did I blow that one. She was really neat but like you said in an earlier post, when you are young you do stupid things. I was no exception. Life is a series of decisions. I made some good ones but I made some real boners. Overall I have had one hell of a run so no regrets. There isn't enough money on this earth to replace my time as a pilot in the Marine Corps. What a ride. BTW, this site was down for a long time. As a Mod, what was the deal? Maintenance??
  9. Ok Pops, I have to add my two cents worth. There were 10 dorms around the Quad back then and you are correct for the most part on the times. For freshman girls they had to have been signed back in by 8:30 during the week until they made their grades and then got to stay out all the way to 9:15. For sophs on up the limit was still 9:15 during the week. The 11:00 sounds right for the weekends. There were other dorms scattered about the campus ie Alumni Hall etc which was across the street from Samford on College street. I don't know if it is still there or not. I dated a girl who lived in Dorm 10 and the housemother there was the meanest b---- you would ever come across. We called her "Bloody Mary". She had a face that would stop and 100 car freight train and probably tipped the scales at about 275. She was really hell on the girls and seemed to take great pleasure on restricting them for any slight violation of the rules. Looking back on it, I think it was just jealousy and envy on her part. Sort of sad really. The Phi Mus were in Dorm 5 and arguably had the best looking girls on campus. Not that the other dorms didn't have any but the Phi Mus seemed to stand out in the looks department. When I returned to Auburn in 1973 to finish what I started back in 1957 I was amazed at the changes that had taken place. augolf and I were there at the same time and have talked about the activities back then. Especially the streakers. Boy had times changed. Well I will quit for now. Just thought I would share. WDE
  10. Thanks golf, I do understand the opposites attract thing. It can be dynamite but does not work out in the long run. I know from personal experience. Sorry about your dad, he and folks like him are the real heroes. I still have all my limbs etc. The real heroes are those that paid the ultimate price IMO. Its all a matter of luck and being in the right/wrong place at a particular time. Tell you what, my email address is in my profile. Give me a shout and lets have lunch or a beer and talk over old times. I would enjoy that.
  11. golf, I am assuming that relationship is over. One thing I am most proud of is that Auburn for the most part didn't get into the anti war thing and was still Auburn and very patriotic. I'm sure there were a few "protesters" but they were in the minority. I was a chopper pilot in Nam 1967-1968 and I remember coming home to a very hostile enviroment. I thought the country had gone nuts. Don't want to get into the anti war thing but it didn't make me feel very good. I did not understand their attitude. My ass was on the line, not theirs. Anyway, long ago and far away. Life moves on. I really enjoy this thread and it sounds like a lot of people do also. I really like to hear everybody's stories.
  12. augolf, I meant to repsond earlier about the streaking thing but I got distracted. Correct me if I am wrong. I had a 10:00 accounting class in Tichenor and the word was out that a streaker was going to streak about that time. Of course everybody was hanging out the windows. I remember the guy got out of a car in front of Haley Center on Thach, butt nekid and streaked down the concourse towards Dorm 10. Is that the guy you are talking about?? Also, my wife and I had just gotten home one night from watching "The Sting" at the Tiger Theater. I remember this particularly because the audience gave a standing ovation at the end of the movie. When I got home I heard this tremendous roar that was coming from the campus. I was really curious about what was going on and cranked up my Yamaha dirt bike and rode over to the drill field to see what all the excitement was about. The scene that greeted me was about 300 students, boys AND girls just running all over the place nekid as jay bird. The campus cops went crazy!! Anyway it was quite a sight and just wondered if you were a participant Just thought I would share OBTW, I shot my career round today, a 69. The 19th hole was really hard on me.
  13. DJ, thanks for the videos. I think the first play of the second one is Jackie Burkett intercepting a pass and taking it to the house. My old snooker buddy. You may or may not know but they played both ways back then and I am not talking about sexual oreintation. In this modern age that statement might be taken the wrong way. But don't get me started on that. As I have told golf, I had two AU experiences, the second one being from 1973 to 1975. So your grandmother doesn't have anything on me. I was 36 when I graduated. I really enjoy this board. NO turds to put up with.
  14. augolf, I am so sorry you can't play anymore, what a bummer. I thought I might be in the same boat 3 or 4 years ago. I have a back problem that when I played the pain would be excrutiating. It wasn't the twisting motion of the golf swing but the walking up and down hills that got me. During my flying career in the Marine Corps I pulled a lot of G's (dog fighting, acrobatics etc.) and was not always in an erect position in the cockpit and it just took its toll on my spine and discs over the years. Cart path only would just kill me. I started taking glucosimin daily and that has given me some relief. At least I can make it through a round and still feel fairly good. I take hydrocodone during the round and it really makes a difference. BTW I have two Auburn careers. The second one started when I got out of the Marine Corps in Sep of 1973. I just wanted to finish what I started back in 1957. I graduated in Aug of 1975 so we were there at the same time. The place had sure changed since the first time. We never had any streakers in '57 Well its too bad we can't play a round but I understand. I will have to quit sooner or later.
  15. DJ, no problem. I thought not all the facts were visible, either that or she was a slow learner Also, being 30 I doubt seriously if she stayed in a dorm. I don't think a 30 year old woman would like being told they had to be in by 8:30.
  16. augolf1716, I see in your profile you live in Buford. Did you play on AU's golf team? I live at Chestatee up in Dawson county. In fact the 18th fairway is about 100 yds from me. If you would like to play sometime please let me know. I have a group that plays 3 times a week on Mon, Tue and Thurs, but if you are 52 you might still be working and not be able to make it during the week. We have some pretty good shooters in the group (ie low 70's). Anyway let me know if you are interested. On another note, I went to an alumni meeting about a month or so ago at a boys ranch just south of gainesville off Mcever road. Ted Roof and Randy Campbell were the guest speakers. In fact both of them were at our table. I was just wondering if you were in attendance. As you probably know Randy was our QB for our 1983 SEC Championship team.
  17. BTW AU60, that was Mike Cummins, not Bob Cummings. Hell he was a movie star. My bad
  18. OUCH!!! DJ, your GRANDMOTHER????? Boy that hurt. Couldn't you least have said your mother. JK. Well I am sure she has some stories. That was a great time to be at Auburn. I think the boy/girl ratio back then was 4:1, not in our favor, so I am sure she had a great time. They were pretty strict on the girls back then however, especially if they lived in one of the dorms which most did. They had to be in by 8:30 during the week and 9:15 if they made their grades which was a 1.0. We were on the 3.0 system back then. I don't know what is going on with the rules these days but I am sure things have changed tremendously. Also, I bet the ratio has improved
  19. Well its about 2:45 in the AM and as folks my age have to do in the middle of the night, I had to pee. Thought I would just check the boards to see what is going on before going back to bed. AU60, you are right on, I was an SPE. We had quite a motely crew back then. Some coeds were even scared to come to the house on date night but Barbara Meshad Dooley certainly wasn't. Hell she fit right in. I haven't seen Eli in quite some time. I remember seeing him when Lloyds was in the narrows on 280 and then he moved it closer to Bham. Lord the memories. Pops I think AU60 is the oldest as far as I can tell. I am 71 so I think he has me by a year. Btw AU60, I had two friends from high school that were ATOs, Jack Wilson and Bob Cummings. He was a pilot for Delta and died of cancer relatively young, very sad. Jack was/is a big time gambler. As for myself, I was a Marine aviator for a good portion of my adult life so I wasn't around home (Bham) to stay up with things through the years. I live in Dawsonville,GA now, just north of Atlanta on Lake Lanier and don't get home very often so I appreciate you guys on here as to what is going on with Auburn. Well let me get off of here before I write a book. Semper Fi fellas, later.
  20. Thanks WE4ever, its always great to chat with fellow War Eagles. I am definitely planning on getting to the Plains this season and maybe we can all get together. AUgolf1716, if you want to play a round on a football weekend, let me know. I have not played any of the courses down there and would love to opportunity to do so. Let me know if you are interested. Everyone take care and WDE. Gotta go.
  21. Pops, I have not seen Frank in years but I've seen Tommy just recently. Well fairly recently. Did you know he had the Golden Rule Bar-b-que place just down from the War Eagle Supper Club. It's gone now though. He and his son ran the place. My wife and I always stopped in Auburn on our way down to vist a friend in LA (lower Alabama, a bammer no less) and ran into Tommy. Now you want to talk about an Auburn man, he is it. Great, great guy. We had not seen each other in about 5 years or so, so it was old home week. This is really a great trip for me down memory lane.
  22. Pops, do you remeber who we were playing when Johnny made that play? I can see it clear as day but I don't remember who the opponent was.
  23. Boy, I'm glad you guys are still around. You sure do bring back memories for me. My first year was 1957. Talk about timing. Auburn's one and only NC (but not their last!!!) and I was there. AU60 I think you and I have chatted before. I think I told you my Jackie Burkett story about us cutting history class to go play snooker. AUgolg1716 I knew Dave Edwards also. In fact ran into him in Dallas in the late 70s. He sold football equipment if I remember right. He dated the sister of a fraternity bro of mine back then. Great guy, not full of himself. In fact sort of quiet, at least back then he was. Pops, I guess you know that Johnny and Barbara Meshad Dooley were classmates at John Carroll in Bham. Barbara dated Frank Larussa, another fraternity bro of mine for quite some time. He went to Ensley in Bham and played guard for Shug. Johnny, Barbara and myself all started Auburn together. Her little brother was my little brother in my fraternity. Great guy. He is a very successful real estate attorney in Tampa. Saw him about 4 years ago. Well enough about my stories let me hear some of yours folks.
  24. I've got my own Bobby Hoppe story about Graves Center. Eli Stevens, a fraternity brother of mine roomed with Bobby at Graves Center. I was there just visiting one night and Bobby came in. He had had a few and got his pistol out waving it around. Said he was going to shoot the place up. The guy was one of the scariest human beings I have ever been around. Could have used him in Nam. Eli and I left as we had to be somewhere to go but it sure didn't hurt my feelings. I have a buddy here in Atlanta from Chattanooga that went to high school with him and we swap stories about him all the time. One crazy dude!!
