  1. It makes me realize how old I really am but I remember all of that and a few others. Thanks for the reminder.
  2. Happy birthday pops. So far, I can still remember my 67th birthday. Grandkids are the greatest thing in the world.
  3. The biggest difference is that in the fuel case an Auburn booster was guilty of giving Fuel a new washer and drier. We went on probation for four years based ao that and anothere in Gadsden who gave the Baubee twins five hundred dollars. Their father was a preacher and when he found out about it, he made them give it back. None of the three were allowed to play at Auburn. I still beileve that was the most severe penalty ever given out by the NCAA. In those days no postseason play was the killer because there was very little television back then. The kicker was it was all sports. Therefore, we were on probation my entire college career.
  4. Well, I'm not historical but Saturday is my 50th class reunion. I will be unable to attend due to being trumped by my youngest grandson. He is almost four and is coming to visit for a few days. By the way, I was in Dallas on Monday and I never saw so many Auburn hats and shirts out there. It was the same way on the plane trip back. Very nice. When they have all the parties this weekend I will think about everybody from Bammerham. War Eagle.
  5. You must have been an SPE. I went to high school with Eli. I rarely see him anymore because he doesn't work like he used to. I think his son is running Lloyds now.
  6. You were an ATO. We had a few battles with them in 70 and 71. Finally the University made us make peace. Well it was kinda peace instead of doing the battles between the 2 frat house buildings we had to go outside Auburn city limits. By the time I got my degree I had several friends who were ATO's. Were you an SAE? We had a few battles with them when I was there.
  7. Burkett was not known for regularly attending classes. I had several with him and he rarely made it to class. He did graduate though; however he had to clear up about 50 parking tickets handed out by the city of Auburn before he could graduate.
  8. I thought at the time that Bobby Hoppe was the meanest guy in the world, on and off the field. He had to get permission from his parole officer to leave Tennessee. The story was that he was on probation for manslaughter. I believe he was driving a truck in Chattanoga during the summer and he started across a picket line to make his delivery. A big guy jumped up on the running board and threatened him and he shot him, then drove in and made his delivery. I think that story was basicly true. Back then the football players stayed in a group of cabins near the stadium with usually four to the cabin. One night a group in another cabin got to partying and were making a good bit of noise and Hoppe fired off four or five shots from his 45 in the general direction of the other cabin and advised them that he was trying to study and to be quiet. It did get very quiet.
  9. You guys make me feel like Methuselah . I am a proud 72 and working on 90 or so. My favorite football memory was the entire 1957 season. We had the most dominant defense I have ever seen. Guys like Jackie Burket, Zeke Smith, Jerry Wilson, et.al. made the defense absoultelu vicious. They allowed less than 3 points a game. Otherwise, the first game with Pat Sullivan and Terry Beasley was memorable, as was their entire career. The 17-16 game is one I will never forget, particularly since Auburn had not crossed the fifty yardline until the field goal. Too many memories to list. By the way ATO was one of the top fratenrities during that time and I was proud to be a member.
