  1. I think we all need to accept that this is just who CHF is. Remember when he was at Ole Miss? He beat two of the best Bama teams of all time, have the team highly ranked, then go get thumped by an unranked team he had no business losing to. As much as I hate it, I don't think we'll be seeing anything different during his tenure here. Watch us go out and beat Bama next week, then lose a bowl game to Valley High.

    " He coming though."

Deion, while a great athlete, has always been a punch line. He cares not about Colorado, Jackson State, HBCU'S, or much of anything else save for Deion.

I for one am more than overjoyed not to have that clown anywhere near Auburn.

People said (on this board) the same thing all the time about Saban not caring about Bama. I’ve predicted that Prime will be competing for championships in the near future, and we’ll be kicking ourselves for not hiring him as we watch our old, out of touch boosters hunt for the next incarnation of Pat Dye. I stand by all that. If I’m wrong, I’ll be happy to admit it. If I’m right, well, buy me a Toomer’s Lemonade.

Absolutely insane that USC and Tennessee are out of contention but Alabama isn’t. If Bama gets in it will 100% be rigged. I don’t know if the committee is that dumb but then again it’s the committee.

They’re already hyping it up, saying, “Alabama is who Georgia doesn’t want to face!”

ESPN is reporting Deion, I mean PRIME, is taking the Colorado job. Colorado was ranked the worst Power 5 job in the country in 2021. Since that ranking, they've gone 1-11 this year. South Florida wanted him also and they're 1-11 as well.

Weed is legal in Colorado so the players may flock to be on Deion, I mean PRIME's, team.

I read an article yesterday saying Deion called a press conference the past week to tell reporters that Colorado, as well as other schools, had contacted him to be their new coach. The article was mentioning how no coaches EVER call their own press conference to tell the media that other schools are contacting them. Colorado is getting a damn circus when they get Deion. He's ALL about Deion and nothing else. Has been since high school. Easily the most arrogant athlete/person not named Muhammad Ali.

He will compete for natties in the near future and we will kick ourselves for not hiring him.

  5. Bama isn’t what they used to be, so them squeaking into the playoffs now is even more infuriating than it was in 2011 and 2017. They may have lost their two games by 4 total points, but they also nearly lost to Texas, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss. They’ve been far from impressive or dominant. Regardless of the record, they’re not a top 4 team.

Kind of what I figured. But consider:

    - Had Mississippi State ranked number 1 in the nation during the Dak Prescott years, and I covered Mississippi State -- you guys have watched them. Having MSU ranked number 1 in the nation in football is unreal.

    - Was the QB coach for some pretty amazing talents.

    - Came within seconds of knocking off Alabama in the SEC title game.

Agreed. I would welcome him over most of the other candidates that have been suggested, but there’s some people in our fan base who probably still hold grudges toward their grandma for making an unwelcome modification to their favorite sweet potato casserole when they were in fifth grade.

  7. Forgive my pessimism, but this is about the 10th time I’ve experienced internet pandemonium surrounding the hiring of an Auburn HC or coordinator, and I can count on one finger all the times it’s been a splash hire and not a letdown (Muschamp). I hope this time is different, but historical trends suggest our power brokers will give us another pitiful attempt at resurrecting Pat Dye, only to have us going through internet pandemonium again in a few years.

I guess we wouldn't have canned Gus if that was a serious concern.

    We probably should consider, though:

    - A coach who doesn't immediately divide the fanbase
    - A coach who isn't an immediate ongoing negative PR problem
    - A coach who runs an offense that excites top level athletes preparing for the pros instead of low level "do more with less"
    - A coach who can sell the program not just internally, but externally without immediately having NCAA infractions and hookers brought up

If we were going to go the route of a PR challenged coach, Urban Meyer has a much better resume. It's a high risk, meh reward hire.

It is a meh hire. The hooker stuff would be far less of a concern if he was more qualified, at least for much of the fan base. I personally don’t approve the hooker stuff, but it’s not why I don’t want him as our HC.

I am at a loss, how do people think Deion Sanders, one of the greatest high school athletes to ever suit up, one of the greatest football players in college ever, The number one pick in the NFL draft. Arguably the best cornerback   ever in the history of the game and a National college, and NFL Hall of Famer. Doesn’t understand football or what it takes to win? This man has played for some of the greatest coaches ever and do you think he’s not learned anything along the way?  Do you honestly think he is intimidated by “SEC”standards or their coaches?

He’s has taken a program that 90% of you have NEVER heard of and brought it to national prominence. Hell, ESPN college game day showed up on their campus because of him. Can you even imagine the exposure and press that Auburn would get if he had our resources?

Don’t kid yourself on the new coaching hire, NOBODY is a slam dunk. The SEC rinses and recycles coaches all the time,  but you can’t tell me that Deion Sanders wouldn’t have Auburn in the National Spotlight immediately!

Today’s game is about winning, exposure, recruiting, and re-recruiting your own athletes. With everything that’s wrapped up in what’s going on in college athletics today you need someone who can manage that exposure and is comfortable with it.

He will compete for national titles somewhere. We will regret not hiring him when we had the chance.

As far as the “illegal activities”, virtually all of us have done something that could’ve easily landed us in prison, and the other candidates out there definitely have their blemishes. Let’s not be self-righteous or act like he’s anymore tainted than Freeze or Kiffin.

so,  just his famous name.  football in the SEC is about more than just recruiting. Head coach is about more than recruiting and coaching.  The guy brings literally nothing else to the table.

A 26-5 HC record is also pretty notable. 22-2 the last 24 games alone. On top of that he’s an incredible motivator and knows how to manage the NIL system. Deion will win natties somewhere. We’ll be kicking ourselves in 5 years for not having hired him when we had the chance. Hold me to this prediction. I'll be happy to admit if I’m wrong.

Addendum: Jackson State was 3-8, 5-5, and 4-8 prior to Deion.

@Auburn Tiger   what does Deon bring to the table other than his name that make you think he can compete with the SEC elite?

He convinced the number 1 recruit in the nation to come play at Jackson State. Just imagine trying to get a normal person to come and simply visit Jackson, MS. I have trouble getting friends to come visit Huntsville, and it was voted the number one place in the nation to live. Then imagine trying to convince that player to come play at Jackson State instead of Alabama, Clemson, OSU, etc, knowingly sacrificing the potential for an FBS Championship. Then imagine what he could do at Auburn.

  12. Thank you, US military for the arthritis, bone spurs, hypersomnia, and herniated disc! Not many 34 year olds out there who get to walk around with a cane LOL. In all seriousness, thank you to all the vets on here.

Moving a black man into an interim HC spot isn't proving color doesn't matter.  It's the easiest way to say "look, we had a black head coach once".  It's nice to see Caddy as HC, but until the actual signed HC is a black man, we aren't "proving" anything.

We, as fans, care about winning. We could care less if he’s purple with rainbow colored hair. Hopefully the people that make this decision feel the same way.

That's true. But denying the big say and also losing the big $ is not always a good idea.

It's a fine line to walk here.

Agreed, but also consider that these individuals will likely be wealthy regardless of how well or poor Auburn football does. The only way they'll legitimately suffer financially would be due to their own businesses tanking. So they have a pretty limited downside and tremendous upside to meddling. I mean, Bobby Lowder took some heat for Jetgate, but he's still ultra-wealthy and has a say in the affairs of Auburn athletics. He caused a massive stink in 2003 and still got to enjoy all the fruits of the 2004 season, minus some fanbase hate; but you can endure the flack from us peasants when you have "f--- you!" money.
